I'm using this video as part of a series of articles that teach non-Gen-Xers about heavy metal music; how it was a powerful agent of positive change. This concert was THE shining example of the spirit of our generation. The cool generation. The heavy generation. The heavy as fuck generation.
The comment was pre covid-19 pandemic when we only had superpower against superpower, trade war, war and terror to worry about ... Respect to everyone affected by the pandemic
I just love how Americans and Russian fell in love thanks to this concert. Russians enjoyed the concert in 1991, Americans now enjoy the video how Russians enjoy the Metallica lol. Fuck politics, peace brothers

If I had the chance to go back in time to at any point for just one day in history this would be it right here, watching Metallica, Pantera and AC/DC playing is already perfect on its own but watching all three in their primes in an ocean of a crowd like this where everyone’s just losing their minds, I couldn’t imagine anything greater This is more then perfection, it’s absolutely unbelievable

I was there. Arrived by the train from Lithuania a day earlier, just to be closer to the stage when concert start's. It was Amazing gig! Memory of a lifetime! Unforgettable ! ... time flies ...
Sasha this was one of the most important concerts of our lifetime and you are a lucky guy for going. I have seen almost 300 shows in my life and I would give them all up to have seen this one
And ever since. By an long long way. What is there now, rap? Lol, it’s a nightmare now in music, in the media, on tv, in movies and socially because of this nonsensical “woke”garbage.
Seeing this makes me shed tears. To some people in the world a seemingly insignificant thing as a concert like this provide an opportunity of a lifetime, to vent out their anguish and years of frustration. Moscow 91' was the greatest moment in rock/metal history.

A grez It's the full concert that was released on vhs in the 90's. This is what was released, no it's not every song that every band played. It's the full vhs.
@@jestice75 but before them it was better festival Moscow Peace, 89. Skid Row, Cinderella, Poison, Motley, Bon Jovi and Ozzy with Zakk. I witnessed both festival but Cinderella steal my ❤
ESPECIALLY since TECHNICALLY it was an “illegally” concert. It was still the USSR at the time. Banning western music. Liberation didn’t happen until 3 months later.
Rex Brown is one of the most underrated Bassists of his time he does such a well balanced style of keeping Panteras Bass awesome with Vinnie and dime and Phil
@@MRHEAVY-xh4vm Lmao, man wrote "Fuck, I do not regret anything not a badly broken nose nor two broken ribs, i was back at the concert, i ran from ambulance car when it stopped on red light, Metallica and AC/DC is something i could have not missed." Man just sharing his awesome memories of that day.
I was 23 when this happened and there will never be a show like this in my lifetime. Wish I could've been there... Much respect & love to my brothers and sisters in the Russian Federation!
I was 28 and was there! But first bird was Peace music festival in Moscow, 89. Imagine Skid row, Cinderella, still my heart, Poison, Motley, Bob Jovi and of course Ozzy. Presenter said festival is organized against drugs and alcohol use. Axaxa, the guy who organized festival was cut with 550 pounds of Marijuana on his private plane. I was there and is unforgettable memory!
I was there, right there in the front. Still chills. One helluva show! Never seen an American band before. People were pushing each other, kid next to me lost his shoe, muddy sock, next thing I see his boot is flying on the stage:)
Dime said this show was 1of his favorite shows and the biggest.Hells Bells! It's always good to see them when things were good.Rest in Power Dime and Vinnie!!! !!! !!! Getcha Pull!!! 🤘😈🤘
Ac/dc one of the best hard rock band,Pantera one of the heviest and the best metal bend ever, and fucking Metallica best metal band ever(in best Metallica live period) and this damnit in one show)I want timemachine...
This is breathtaking to watch 30 years later. So much energy in the crowd. Metallica at the absolute top of the world. Imagine 16 year old Kirk Hammett writing the creeping death riff and getting to play it over 1.6 million freshly liberated people chanting Die Die Die in unison. I was 10 when this took place and I wish I could have been in the crowd. I’m so very happy someone recorded this and shared it with the world. Amazing work, capturing unique time in history.
They weren’t liberated as of yet. However by this point they had much more freedom thanks to Gorbachev. The USSR didn’t collapse until a couple months after this, but this concert really showed the Russian people how good things were in the west.
@@thursoberwick1948 like you said, unfortunately something went wrong after 1991. Maybe they need another come to Jesus, ahem Metallica concert moment. Btw , did you see that “Pantera” is about to go on a world tour with Metallica (again). Announced yesterday
@@janbob3386I would have liked to see them in their heyday but they're both getting on a bit. It's scary when you think that Metallica is practically forty years old!
Yeahh on the PANTERA home video the guys in PANTERA talk about how unbelievable this was for them to get to perform at, and how bad all the military troops there where beating and basically abusing the FUK OUT OF MANY KIDS with those RUBBER BILLY CLUB things, just cause those kids where ROKKN OUT SO HARD AND OUT OF CONTROL!!! COMMUNIST COCK SUCKING FUKKIN ASSHOLES!!!
Funny how the oldest band here, AC/DC, has outlasted so many bands much younger than them. This concert was almost 3 decades ago, and even back then AC/DC had already been around for a long time. But now, in the year 2020, they are "About To Rock" yet again with a brand new album. POWER UP!!!!
Wish i was born few years earlier to enjoy the era of the most glorious music ever,i was only 8 in 1991 and i discovered this music when i was 14. When everything was dead already. We will probably never see such great rock events, lucky who was there
When you get Vinnie Paul and Lars Ulrich together on the same video....you just can't help but cringe at how bad Lars compares to Vinnie. Don't get me wrong, I love both bands (not equally) but damn...it's tough to watch/listen.
@@miguelssupergaming1012 I know what you meant. I meant it's hard to see many of the other bands after Pantera tore the place apart with Dime's shredding.
Music ain’t got no soul today, not a damn thing to say. Nothing to teach us, glad I witnessed most of this era live. Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth , the ACDC mayhem Salt Palace 91’ I was there. Saw the glory years. But I am glad for utube so all you Youngbloods can behold the power and the glory. Peace and brotherhood
I got to see AC/DC three times over the years... First time with Bon Scott... the other two both with Brian Johnson but different drummers..... all three shows were long and worth every minute.... Just a fun fact, the first concert cost $25 US dollars, the second was $75 US dollars, the third show was $125 US dollars....
Fun fact about concert costs... I got to see Led Zeppelin Twice in the 70's. First concert $4.50 US..yes Four dollars and 50 cents in 1971. The Houses of the Holy tour cost $9 dollars and we were outraged at the cost increase. In mid 90's I saw Page and Plant it cost $155 dollars US for that concert.... today I just buy the DVD of concerts... Not all still pay to see Pearl Jam and Heart.
One of the best Rock videos, it's nice of the uploader to upload this here so more people will get to see this historical event. I remember seeing this for the first time in beta or vhs back in the day and it sure rocked my day. What a time it was - better times, better music, better people and an energy and vibe the world hasn't had since. What a great time to be young and alive.
I’ve read and heard a few times members of AC/DC saying this was their favorite concert ever. I knew the historical context but never SAW it until tonight. WOW. As much as I love AC/DC though, as a commenter below said, communism officially fell during the intro to Enter Sandman. As epic as I’ve ever seen. What a moment that must have been for all involved! And also, not to get ageist or pick on other genres and artists, but there’s no way the Beatles, Stones, Taylor Swift, any rapper or any other groups could have exploded that place the way Metallica and AC/DC did. Right bands, right time in history. Perfection. We Salute You!
There has never been and never will be a concert that rocks this hard ever again! I'm thankful to have seen AC/DC once, Metallica twice, and Pantera 5 times all in Minneapolis/St. Paul.
That’s crazy cause I’ve seen the same bands the same amount of times exactly. All in Detroit except 1 of the 2 times I seen metallic was at Woodstock 99
wen i was about 13-14 i rented this from the video store and stuck it in the vcr witch was routed threw the stereo system, so i could record this onto a casset tape. i ran the level as high as i could before it distorts and ran the recording threw the eq so the tape sounded killer! i was the only kid at my high school that had these cuts on tape and my friends wer supper jellos until ide rip them off a copy old school style. so many memories with this band!
Definitely the biggest fuck you to the communist regime of Russia. You can see the soldiers can't take control over the moshing, and fighting them back. Truly rebellious 🤘
Jeltzin asked Russian ppl what they wanted and they said: Rock and Roll!!! what was given to them was a massive metal gig, so huge and legendary id give everything to be on it... ave!
Thank god Ac/Dc found brian johnson,Bon scott was a legend, but brian was the messiah. (Born and bred Sydney aussie). I wish i was there, and those that doubt 1.6 million people there, open your eyes and see the truth., this was the biggest concert in the history of humanity
I was there, and I can tell you the place went apeshit when AC/DC rocked it. Total madness. Never seen anything like it since. The word "crowd" doesn't do it justice. Must have been half a million at this. 👍🏻🇨🇮🙌🏻
@@KilyanAustin They did the tally on square footage , i read about it in a magazine a while back ... there was over 3 square kilometers of people , one per square foot and they estimated it to be 1.65 million . The biggest rock festival ever and it was free ... Right at the time of the collapse of the Soviet Union , first taste of real freedom these people have seen .
How did an irishman end up in communist moscow......would love 2 of been there.....however i did go to donington...only thing was pantera didnt play.....qeensryche did......but i went for DC and metallica....
This concert was the perfect symbol of how young people in the west and the Soviet Union could come together and there was so much hope that things were finally changing and the cold war wad over. I makes me happy even now to see Russian citizens with so much promise for the future. They had a difficult decade in the 1990's but by the 2000s it seemed to be paying off. They had a real democracy and rights that Soviet citizens never knew. They were part of the world community and we in the United States were happy for them. Now in 2022 a relic from Soviet times and KGB paranoia has destroyed all that good will that took 30 years to build. He burned the bridge with their neighbors in the Ukraine forever and started cold war 2.0 with NATO countries. The United Nations has voted to kick them out of human rights council and they have been isolated from the rest of the civilized world. It's incredible to see how far things have fallen and how fast it happened. This event will shape foreign policy for the next century.. It's sad that it came to this.
in my Opinion, every Song of every Band at this Day, ist the most Intense Live-Performance. You can really "hear" and feel the 500.000 People who are see something like this for the first time. Domination of Pantera, Harvester of Sorrow of Metallica... How can Metal be more Intense. For those about to Rock is the worthy Final of this unbelievable Concert. I wish i had been there.
@@ViniciusFaria036 So many people have gathered, because for a long time the Soviet people could not listen to Western music alive. This is not a policy. It does not matter whether you are a communist or a democrat, a totalitarian or a liberal. People went there to see those who reported very little information, but who were already legends. We had metal bands (including those known in the West - Shah, Kruiz, Aria, Gorky Park ... But to see Metallica oder AC/DC alive... Nobody could dream of such a thing. Sorry for my english
i just saw Pantera, 5 Finger Death Punch, Overkill, and of course the all time masters of metal Metallica at East Rutherford NJ on their world tour. 80,000 hard head banging metal lovers in the Metlife Stadium. It was the most epic experience of my life. I can only imagine what this was like.
Doraemon .,please help us to go back in the Metal years...back in the USSR...1989,1991....This concert is still in my mind and it would be in history of rock....4ever....RIP...Malcolm Young...still miss Chris Slade played drums for AC/DC those days...for those bands about to rock we salute you...!!!...never forget ....Dimebag...RIP....
