Please make your videos full screen without the distracting intro border behind them. :) Great build - I'm surprised you didn't get a premium chair as well.
Upgraded the description with the specific parts I ordered. Tools are required and your options may differ from what I ordered based on taste and chair type. Hope its detailed enough.
Watching you put this together and go through customizing the placement was extremely helpful. While some of the stuff might be a bit out of date for my purposes, it helps give me an idea of how everything works together. Thanks!
Dude the keyboard tray mount. 💯 Why everyone thinks flight sims enthusiast don't use keyboards is silly. If monstertech makes a big keyboard tray to also fit mice, then I am sold.
I used a Redragon K530 with a mouse on the tray. It was doable but not comfortable. Overall I found using the mouse extension tray off the right stick ideal for long term use. Monstertech now offers their version of the keyboard tray mount.
That cis a very common sense set up, expensive yes, but high quality, sturdy and made to the highest standard. You get what you pay for, so do it right 1st time, and your set for years to come. Great content. Enjoy.
Damn I’m looking for a setup but this looks amazing dude. I’m not gonna say jump in it since it’s alpha but Star Citizen has been great to play with dual sticks and face tracking. Now I’m looking at a full on setup like you have since these Thurstmasters have been drifting. But yea I’d check out star citizen they even have free fly weeks. Tons of ships and guns to try out during the events and each ship handles differently in space and in atmosphere. Joysticks make flying 100x better in it too.
Ayye Marcus when you mentioned your RU-vid station to me at work I have to say, I didn't expect this.. Wow homie this i something serious. I love it... I think I'm gonna start playing some games. I love the entire set up.
Thanks! I will definitely work on something like that. Still figuring out and setting up profiles for different games at the moment. But will make a another video once the controls are dialed in.
That is a extremely nice setup, but I can't help to think "that poor Dx Racer" I hope it can take it in the long run . Now I can't wait to get my second (left hand) Virpil Alpha, to join my throttle and stick. I will look forward to see the changes in the future to your setup 😊
Thanks! Shockingly the Dx Racer stood the test of time over my Respawn and AKRacing chairs. Will be getting a Titan XL to replace the Dx in the near future.
Fantastic Build, Great Video! I loved the strobe/chair unveiling! I have a question for you. If a flight/space sim has both flat screen and VR, which do you prefer to play?
Thanks! Preference is VR, the level of immersion is unmatched with any at home flight sim setup. I play flat with a triple monitor setup using track IR and VR beats it hand down.
Just finished the video and very impressed... but... not with just the chair.... that room bruh and all the VR headsets just sitting up there!!!! I got the same Virpils and i love em. Now the next big step IMO.... I got the DOF H3 and it completely changes flight sims in an insane way. You should check it out and see if its something you're interested in. Anyways awesome video man.
Thanks! I have looked into the DOF H3, it's on my wishlist. With the limited time I actually have to enjoy gaming these days I had to adjust my priorities a bit. But, it's still in my sight picture.
Nice project that you have there. Can u tell us the length of the two parts u required for the 90°-Construction u build yourself for the keyboard? Thank you very much for your inspiration.
I also thought about to use a about 20% longer part for the piece you used to assemble the actual keyboardholder (40x80 custom part), to positioning 2-3 of the mfd- holders from Monstertech to put fire HD tablets 10.1' on (if they are in sale ;)): www.monstertech.de/produkt/mfd-tablet-halter-center www.monstertech.de/produkt/mfd-tablet-halter I like the idea to run different screens/fragments from GameGlass on them. I would be interested in your opinion about actual usage and stabilityof the idea. Maybe a 80x80 dimensions would be required to have enough stability? Would this maybe stabilize the construction enough, if not?: easy-systemprofile.de/Knotenplatte-N10-392.html
@@CsRacerOriginal The 80x80 is 15 inches and 40x80 is 14 inches. You really need to consider the strength of your particular chair. As with my DX Racer it has a metal frame and all the added weight gave it some flex. I had to install the Universal chair mount for added strength. Also if you make the front end to heavy the chair will tip over.
@@MarcusValles Alright thanks for the information. :) I will keep an eye on the flex-problematic, when atempting to rebuild a similar build by myself and also try to add the mfd-holders on it, which would increase the weight to front even more. I guess at some point i have to just try it out by myself and risk some climate unfriendly returns in a case of to much flex or imbalance of the whole chair itself. I gonna add that build to a noble chair Epic, which i bought as an replacement for my old chair and this project. www.noblechairs.de/epic-series/gaming-stuhl-pu-leder I am aware of your suggestion to add more stability to the build by using the univesial base plate from Monstertech, so i already ordered it and will add the parts to it, instead of, on the chair. One more thing about the required length for the keyboard holder you build... I have to use the FORM-1 plates for my build. If I am right with my thoughts, i'm able to reduce the length of the custom 80x80 part by around 1 inch because the plate is 30mm shorter then the FORM-2-plates, that you used for the dxRacer, i think? www.monstertech.de/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/monstertech_chair_mount_form1.pdf www.monstertech.de/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/monstertech_chair_mount_form2.pdf Would you say that you have enough space to push your Alpha to the front? Thanks again and have a nice day/evening ahead :)
Your setup is wicked. Monster Tech has the flight chair available. That would greatly improve setup. Yet that's my opinion, but it looks like a solid build.
Thanks! I actually purchased a Secretlab Titan XL since this video, that I haven't had the time to transfer the build to yet. The DX Racer while older it holds up pretty well.
My man, you answered all the questions I had about getting Monstertech. Thanks. Also, how does it matter that the Mongoose stick bases are backward? Or is it just a set-up issue?
Glad to help! The bases being backwards do not present any issues. On the stick side the main connector can be rotated 180 degrees and can be calibrated as such. I had the same concern when I ordered the kit. Virpil should make that known on their products page.
This is very interesting to me because you literally came from the EXACT spot I'm in now, Warthog and Saiteck pedals, and went to almost the exact same spot I am considering, dual virpil alphas AND a virpil throttle. The only real difference is I want to also add one of their button boxes and some stream decks. How do you find the adaptation from HOTAS to HOSAS? I've tried dual sticks a few times using two T1600s and my brain has a lot of trouble with it. I'm just so hard wired for standard flight controls.
I primarily play space sims so the transition was seamless for me. I actually struggle more playing a standard flight simulator. All my years with the warthog I wished for a left-handed stick of the same quality. I also play mostly in VR and use voiceattack for all secondary commands and flight functions. I also considered extra button boxes and the stream deck for functionality but I control all of that with voiceattack. Once you get used to using your left stick as a throttle everything else is just magic. I rarely ever use my throttle these days. Only dual sticks serves me better as I play in VR I never have to remove my hands and I use voiceattack for everything else.
Bloomin' marvellous Marcus. You are obviously having great fun with all of this. I'm after a recommendation - I've recently bought the Virpil kit (top draw stuff) and now I realise there are two possible directions I can take.....either keep building up my flight simulation rig (like your chair, more hardware controls, etc) OR go straight into VR and presumably I wouldn't need to worry about buying all this extra kit and more monitors/screens? Your expertise in making a recommendation would be appreciated. J.
Thanks John, these days I game primarily in VR. Aside from Star Citizen, hoping for VR support one day. I picked up all the extra kit before the current VR boom. I would highly recommend going straight into VR, especially if simulation style games are your main goal. VR takes Flight/Racing sims to a whole new level that most current triple monitor users won't appreciate until they try it. The Valve Index is my daily driver for VR in general but the HP Reverb G2 offers much better fidelity for sim games. Hope this helps.
@@redicanprime1181 my throttle is only screwed in at three points to get that angle. Monstertech said some months back in their forums that they would work on a angled bracket in the future.
@@Desertpacrat92 They do, I do. The base is what has to be hooked up to the chair mounts backwards and the attachment cable on the sticks rotate 180 Degrees.
Hi, Awesome setup man! I'm thinking about getting the same throttle mount/addon as you (I already have the 2 joystick chair mounts) I'm just wondering if it is comfortable to have the throttle so far out to the left, If you know what I mean? Instead of having it straight in front of the arm rest like the joysticks for example? I have a hard time figuring it out, I don't want to waste my money if it's not comfortable to have it like that (I don't play space simulators, mostly playing Flight sims and using dual joysticks for excavators in certain games) so in flight sims I would have my hand on the throttle more than I would in space sims I'm guessing? (Please correct me if I'm wrong). But in the end, my question is: Do you think it would be uncomfortable to sit with your hand on the throttle for a long period of time when it is that far out to the left? Thanks!
I predominantly play space sims so dual stick is my primary setup. In the event I am going to play a long flight simulator session or some ace combat where the left stick is not in use I adjust the throttle closer to me. The luxury of this setup, loosen the throttle stand and slide it as close to you as you would like. Since the making of this video I have added the Flightstick Z-Extention to my left stick virpil-controls.eu/vpc-flightstick-z-extension.html for greater control in Star Citizen. To answer your question, my setup would not be comfortable for long sessions if you plan to use dual stick and throttle continuously. In Space Sims I use the throttle mostly for the buttons and switches. Hope this helps.
I have for question for you @marcus, When attaching the throttle, did you use the screws that came on the throttle or did monstertech give you some. because I order more or less the same setup (joystick and throttle mount) and the throttle mount didn't come with screws to attach the throttle but the joystick did but I saw you used the one on the mongoose base. So I'm curious, because I have read a lot on them missing parts when they ship. I already have a 25mm screw missing and 3 of the small washer (but luckily the washer is optional according to their generic instruction )
Alex I have been fortunate to receive all the necessary hardware required to complete my build. Since I had ordered custom parts at the time I did order additional hardware to mount my keyboard tray. Pro Tip if you are in the US, order all your hardware from 8020.net/ it’s virtually identical and it will save you time and money.
@@MarcusValles thank you much appreciated only problem is I don’t know the screws needed for the throttle since they don’t have a manual to show which screws go with that mount bracket
@@alexanderbarrios6912 the screws holding my throttle to the mount are M5 X 18mm Full Thread Cap Head Screws Stainless. Now that I am looking at it a little closer 16mm is safer as it doesn't get so close to the electronincs inside the housing.
While I don't have the time to make any content these days. I have spent a considerable amount of time playing Elite Dangerous with my son. That's where my free time goes these days. While I have no regrets with the setup at all. With some of the new mounting options Monstertech has right now I would get a larger mouse mount, two headphone hooks to hold my VR controllers and a stream deck mount for more functionality since I play away from my desk. If I can manage a one year later review it will have all the details.
Hi Marcus, that's quite a wonderful setup you have here :) I have a few questions for you as I'm going to build a very similar thing in my new home : Was it mandatory to remove your chair's armrests or was it a choice you made ? Adding the MTX Keyboard to a chair mount isn't a standard way to do things on monstertech website, was it your idea in order to have you keyboard closer to you ? Was it a monstertech advice ? And finally, why did you choose the MongoosT-50CM2 Base instead of the WarBRD one ? I'm hesitating myself :P P.S : You won a subscriber ^^
Thanks! To install the mounts the armrest has to be removed, the plates mount to the armrest mounts in the bottom of the chair. The keyboard mount was my own design, monstertech is working on a solution but I grew impatient so added it myself. Not monstertech approved. Personal preference, the CM2 has greater flexibility in my opinion. Both are great bases.
@@MarcusValles Thanks for your answer :) I understand your impatientness :P Don't you think that adding a keyboard table mount on your desk would be a good solution to have your keyboard sit closer to you ingame ? I understand your base choice, I'm hesitating between the two as well because I saw on Virpil forum that recently the T-50 CM2 encountered some manufaturing problems : forum.virpil.com/index.php?/topic/2083-do-not-buy-vpc-mongoost-50cm2-base-they-have-defect-cams/&tab=comments#comment-17760 Do you have this issue on your model ?
@@pilou40k I mainly play games in VR away from my desk, thus the mod. I even play Star Citizen in VR using Virtual Desktop on a huge digital screen. Haven't run into any issues so far, only been playing with them for just over a month. So time will tell.
@@MarcusValles I just watched your video again (yes I don't know what to do while I wait for my order to arrive ^^) and I noticed that you applied an angle to your throttle add-on for ergonomic reasons I suppose. Is it something tha's officialy possible with monstertech gear or did you tweak things a little to do it ? :)
Awesome setup! Just a question on the keyboard tray, If you were to rotate the tray support bar to the front, would it put the keyboard tray at an awkward angle?
@@MarcusValles I assume it would be the horizontal support where the hinge is attached, I re-watched the video, and saw @ 8:46 that would not be an option because the holes are engineered for that particular orientation, any rotation of the support bar would put them in a different spot and that would mean more drilling which it would be an unnecessary headache. I really like this setup, looks great!
@@bw33511 Thanks, and understood. When I made the video Monstertech did not offer a keyboard trey for the chair mount setup. I used the trey for their sim pit that made it awkward and bad for the wrist. Since they have designed one that is more flexible and ergonomic. They are also very willing to custom machine any specific part you want if you request it.
They are functionally the same, outside of the base plate. The mongoose was the most recent release, by design was made to be mounted and not table top. It also feels more robust in hand. Really serves the same purpose.
Thank you for the reply! Do you mind telling how long the wait or order process was? My Saitek x52 is starting to have problems and it’s time for an upgrade.
When I first built my Chair out Monstertech didn't have their own chair yet, they also didn't have a keyboard mount available either at the time. I think they got the idea from me. If I replaced my chair right now I would most likely get a Secret Labs Titan XL over a Monstertech chair. I only fly space sims so the center cut out doesn't serve a purpose for me, the Titan XL supports 400lbs which is great because the chairmount setup is nearly 100lbs itself and I weight 250lbs. Finally is the price and shipping, I can get a Titan XL purchased, shipped and delivered in 2 weeks for about $550 while the Monstertech chair is $800, shipping for me is an additional $180 and I have to wait between 2 - 3 months for delivery. If I flew HOTAS more then HOSAS it would be worth the price and wait time.
They are the Philips Audio Fidelio X2HR, among the best open back headphones in this price range IMO. The sound stage in enormous. I got them on Amazon amzn.to/3uKnNYE
