Every American Yagudin fan thinks he likes US. Well, this is not true. Maybe he said this then. But after he said the American women are fat and inelegant who wears flip-flop on the streets etc.... He attacks the US policy on his twitter and supports Putin...He strongly attacked Plushy after Sochi. He said Plushy lies he has no injury, he wanted to skate in Sochi OG because he wants to promote his shows in Russia. and he wanted to just the team gold. He did this because he was envy of Plushy's results, fame, money. When the scandal was the biggest in Russia because of Plushy withdrawal he wrote on his Twitter Plushy and his wife threatened his family!!! But he already knew it !!!! that was a well-known humourist's bad joke.
+lala630312 Both are beautiful skaters and it is just a matter of taste. I don't understand why there is so much anger if anyone says they like one more than the other.
I'm a big fan of Alexei.I just adore his skating, his footwork, his jumps, his charisma and the passion he used to put in his skating. I began to really appreciate Plushenko after Yagudin's retirement. For me, they're the best skaters ever cause no one can reach their artistry and passion on ice. They were more than skaters: they were artists.Thank you to the both of them for what they gave to the figure skating. Without Alexei, Evgueni is nothing and without Evgueni, Alexei wouldn't have been what he is now. They're complementary.
What a great video! Miss that rivalry so much. I had the pleasure of seeing both of these skaters perform live and I have to say they are both exceptional!!!! Evgeni captured my heart and will always be a champion to me.
Amazing video, thankyou! I love both of them! People who hate on either one should stop and be grateful that we were able to watch two such amazing skaters have a rivalry that will never be equalled. Plushenko's career would not have reached the heights it has without Yagudin spurring him on, and the same for Yagudin. Such a shame Yagudin's hips robbed us of another four years of excitement!
they are both amazing skaters and I have always loved seeing both of them skate .. could never choose .. it would be like choosing between DeNiro and Pacino (in my mind, anyway) ... Plushenko has incredible tehnical abilities coupled with a great, larger then life personality and a sense of humour that just makes him a born showman while Yagudin is simply a perfect, beautiful artist ... why would you want to choose when you can have both?
they are both the best of their time. Plushenko was very young in the end of Yagudin's career, so they can't be really compared at that period. Each one has his own style and has been part of figure skating evolution. Don't quarrel over who's better just enjoy their performances, it would be more of a honor for whoever you like better than offending the other
Superb video, I love it! I have always preferred Yagudin, but I am very blessed that I could follow also Plush's career. They are the best figure skaters in the past fifteen years.
Wow... how people can be so harsh against Plushenko is beyond me. They both are completely different skaters, performers, artists, and people but they still are all those things nonetheless. Comparing one to the other is not what skating is all about. It's the differences that make us pay attention. I find both to be exquisite athletes AND wonderful performers.
Anyway, all these elite skaters (men, women, pairs) deserve all the respect...most of us ordinary people can barely walk on ice, let alone dance. And we are not exactly qualified to decide who is better, but we can like whom we choose.
Both are just AMAZING skaters. It's really difficult to choose between them because both skate powerfully and with intense passion. And I like how you say, "battle b/w the great Russians" Haha! I can't agree more! Although I have to agree with Russiyya. They both have different styles. And it'll be really hard to break and tie b/w them. Russians ROCK at skating. They're unbeatable. The BEST! :)
Thank you for this clip. I don't know about figure skating. I just got interested in it after Kim Yun-A's performance. Yagudin's performance made me hold my breath. After I knew he had hip problem, this clip let me shed tears. It is so touching.
Those Russians!!!! They are so great and talented performing this kind of disciplines: ballet, gymnastics, figure skating. It is just like a national and cultural talent which runs through their veins. I hope they keep their reign for many years...it is such a pleasure to watch them
Great montage! Thanks a lot, you've done a truly brilliant job. God knows how badly I miss the precious time of this rivalry. It was absolutely ingenious - pure nerve, pure passion, pure sport. So sad we will never see both of them competing again...
YAGUDIN IS THE BETS SKATER OF ALL THE TIME ! PLUSHENKO FOLLOW HIM IMMEDIATELY, FROM 2003 TILL 2013 HE WAS INVINCIBLE! NO DOUBT! I LOVE CANDELORO , STOJKO, BUT THEY ARE MAGNIFICIENT! Their rivalry gives us the best skaters all the time, and the best programs all the time!I watched both since their first debut. I remember that 6 yeras both was enemy, I think not because of competition, all the cause wear Mishin and his nasty attitude for Yagduin , who was very attached by his coach. But all was for benefit of Yagudin, Tarsova gives him the power to be himself and to skate in the way he likes. In this 6 years of rivalry, Ygudin won 4 World Medal and 1 Olympic medal, Evgeni 3 World medal and 1 Olympic, Yagudin skate during for 7 years and Plushenko 15 years! Wow! I understand why a young man of 20 years love more Plushenko than Yagudin: what knows they abouth Yagudin?! Nothing , only he is a legend! You makes a conflict of generation, of fans and in spite of this is the longevity of a sport carrer! Both are amazing , Yagudin has alot of feeling, sensititvity, passion, originality, he is an actor on ice, very tehnical; Plushenko is elegant, has passion, charisma, and also his tehnical elements are verry good! I'll miss them verry mutch. Now I look at the Olympic Games in Sochi, and I am verry dissapointment any competitor does not compare a bit with them, Very weak this competition...
Plushenko beat Yagudin quite a lot, in 2000 and 2001, even though Plushenko was nearly 3 years younger and in my opinion didn't reach his peak until after Yags had retired (the perfect machine that Plushenko became is best illustrated by Nijinsky 2003/4 but there were many other programmes like the moonlight sonata/st petersburg/tosca/..) Plushenko was the youngest ever WJC and the youngest World medalist, It was him not Yags who did 4,3,2 and 4, 3,3 first, it was him that got 75 sixes before they changed the system- Yags started first so the time they skated in the old system was fairly similar) I think they were both truly great but Plushenko's achievments are insane (4 medals at 4 games and 16 years of senior skating- finishing of the podium only once) The Mishin thing is complicated and Yags never forgave him for saying that Plush should have won the EC in 1998 (he is not the only one that said it, but for a coach it was a bad thing to say) You are so right about what they gave us -'winter' is my fav SP and 'nijinsky' my fav long. I wish that Yags had not had to retire but i don't think the fact that he did should lessen his- or Plushenko's- achievments. Also i think Plush is always judged as the bad guy of skating and Yags the good, Plush is spiky for sure but he had to be, his childhood was messed up and i respect him for staying in Russia when it would have been so much easier to go to America- Also i just read Yagudin's comments about Plushenko's withdrawing from the Olympics and was not impressed- Did he think Plushenko should have crippled himself ??
I find Yagudin's skating for me very enjoyable. I don't care how he feels about American women or his political leanings. It is his skating I enjoy so much. Also I have no desire to diss Plushenko's skating. It just doesn't move me as Yagudin's does. I couldn't tell you why but I suppose it's why I prefer one actor to another.
lala630312 Well I don't know much about that but I just know what I like as far as talent. Personalities I don't get in to. I dislike the kind of person Clint Eastwood is but think he is a fabulous director and really that is all he owes me. Glad you like Plushenko's talent which I do admire.
"The only thing Yagudin is "king" at is coming in 2nd to Plushenko. Yagudin got lucky only once or twice against Plushenko,& the 2002 Olympics was one of those times. he knew he got lucky and he wouldn't of kept winning." HAHAHAHA!!! Oh my gosh Ariaelf, thankyou for such good laughs from your posts! You truly believe what you are saying, so I am not going to even waste a second of my time trying to tell you how wrong you are. But please keep posting. I so enjoy the laughs! *blows kiss*
This is an old but inaccurate comment. Starting in 2000 Plushenko was starting to best Yagudin in competitions. In the 2001 season Evgeni won all but one of their face-offs. It would have been interesting to see them continue to skate together after Alexei won the 2002 Olys, but with his congenital hip problem it was not meant to be. Time was on Evgeni's side too, as he was almost three years younger than Alexei. They are both strong skaters with exceptional skills. Let's not spread inaccuracies about the results of their face-offs. No need to do that.
Yagudin is not comparable with any of the other skaters of the late 20th and 21st century. He's just so far above them, not just in skill, but in passion, expression and artistry.
Honestly, I think it is no good arguing who is the better skater...They are both fantastic, but they have different style...some of us prefer Plushenko, some of us prefer Yagudin. That will never change. I also prefer Plushenko, because I grew up watching his performance (but I am not only a Plushenko but also a figure skating fan ever since I can remember), and that is the way it is. People who are "used to" Yagudin, prefer him.
Yeah, I agree with Alexei Mischin, but you cannot deny that Alexei Yagudin is an amazing performer on ice either. I personally like Plushenko as well, but I also give a LOT of credit and respect to Alexei. I watch both their performances, and I would NOT wanna be the judge! lol! It's soo hard to choose between the two. Their skating styles are very different, yet that's what makes them both the best figure skaters of our time. :D
THEY ARE BOTH VERY ARTISTIC BUT I PREFER PLUSHENKO BECAUSE HE IS THINNER AND TALLER THAN YAGUDIN SOMETHING THAT HELPS HIM MOVE SMOOTHLY ON ICE.HOWEVER THEY ARE BOTH BRILLIANT I LIKE THEM
Very dramatic montage Anya14! Love the ending! :D Beauty (and love)is in eye of the beholder. To me, Yags was and will always be the BEST!! Its such a shame that he was cut down in his prime for competing due to an injury, otherwise he could have continued to win for a long long time! But even pro, he is just as much loved if not more! lol P.S. Don't forget Evazone, any age can post here, even 12 year olds ;) lol
hahaha! "Yagudin is a bit of a rebel/loose canon" LMAO! But that's what makes him soooo desirable! haha! And I know what you mean about the Quads, and the 4-3 combinations. I am REALLY looking forward to the 2010 Olympics. I know that Plushenko will be there...but is Yagudin competing as well? If so...AWESOME! I can't wait to see them go against each other. Of course, I'll be rooting for both of them. They are both just so...passionate in how they skate...it's amazing!!
@sopera123 you are right. Right now Plushenko is the best and there are no skaters on the same level as him. Other skaters should step up in their training. I think, Plushenko came back to figure skating because he wants other skaters to want to compete with him, hence increasing difficulty of their programs and, as a result, men's figure skating would return to its excellence.
Yagudin was undoubtedly the best skater of the last generation. He defeated Plushenko at the Grand Prix Final and regained his European title, and subsequently claimed Olympic Gold in 2002. Yagudin went on to win his fourth World title after the Olympics, and received six 6.0s for his short program and two for his free. He became the first skater to receive six perfect marks for the SP, including the first ever perfect mark for required elements. This record cannot be equaled or broken.
This was like THE MOST AMAZING VIDEO I'VE EVER SEEN ON RU-vid!!! You just gotta post more like these, I love Yagudin and Plushenko was like the ugly duckling who got to be a swan in the end. Man those are amazing skaters! Do you have the vid with Plushenko doing Carmen both as a man and a woman?
...Russians rule in skating. Just look at the legendary pair skaters Ekaterina Gordeeva, and (the late) Sergei Grinkov! They were just impossible to beat! 2 Gold medals at the Olympics in a row, and 4 World Championship titles! I'll always wonder how much more they would have accomplished had Sergei not died so suddenly.
The good old days when their rivalry pushed the sport forward. And fan wars still continue after so many years. I think they are both incredible athletes, it's just a matter of taste after all. I prefer Yagudin's style more. I find Plushenko somehow colder and too focused on executing a perfect routine. Yagudin on the other hand, has that something, the spark, the passion that captivates you, he tells a story and puts all his soul into it. This doesn't minimize Plushenko's talent in any way, it's just that he doesn't do it for me. I resonate with Alexei more and while I consider Plush a great skater, I see Yags as an artistic genius. But so lucky we are to enjoy them both!
Sure, luchito345, I agree with you that Plushenko is not your average skater and he should be treated with respect, yet even if he hadn't fallen in the SP back in 2002, he wouldn't have won, anyway. Alexei was simply astonishing and brilliant in the LP while for Plushenko, it was just another night. But the "ifs" don't make the champions, history does, and we all know what history has recorded...
Mishin & Pissev were mad cos Yags went to US with Tarasova cos Mishin was treating him like a "hungry dog" & "garbage". With Tarasova he learned artisty/passion, not arm waving (& hair shaking! lol) which Plushenko still does today! lolol
Just untrue. If Yagudin had not been genetically predisposed to a hip condition, he'd still be beating Plushenko today. I won't deny that Plushenko is the second best. If Yagudin had competed after the 2002 Olympics, and had not had health trouble, he would have gone on to be the most decorated figure skater of all time, without any doubt. He was unequaled in his passion, his enthusiasm and his artistry on ice. Unlike Plush, Yagudin had the good sense to retire whilst at the peak of his career
Yagudin is/was the best skater EVER!!! Only now with the current crop of skaters do I see how special he was...won't be another one like him for a few decades:(
Alexei, please. He's classier and far more elegant than Plushenko. They both were the kings of the figure skating. Now what? Where are the Russians? I'm sick of the Chinese winning. It's not their sport. Figure skating belongs to Russia, who gave us the best skaters, both men and women that've ever been seen.
ha-ha. you are totally wrong. Plush was the better jumper. He landed in the strong combos at first, after Yag learn them always. Pu did the first 4t-3t-2t, combo and the 4t-3lo-3lo combo and the 3A-half Lo-3F in Fs history. What did do Yag at first? And Yag has never been Russian champion, because he lost to Plush, when Plu was really kid. Look at their wiki pages. Plush has more 6.0s for his presentation. When Yag beat Plu 2002, Plu was only 19, likeYuzuru now, and he has so long results list.
woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo i love them!!!!!!!
It is so bad!!! After the finest sport war possible (so high technical and artistic standards) between this pair of russian genius, we have to conform with well trained mediocrities as Brian Joubert and others I want my russians back for the next season!!!!
@MaggieMaggieable What are the arguments by which you demonstrate that Alex is better? I'm really curious. Which element was what has made Alexei at first? What are his innovations? What do you know about Plushenko's life? If you have time, this is part of a portrait about Plush with english subtitle. Plush is a very special person.. /watch?v=3_fgqwyMuYk&list=FLiq7gYWV /watch?v=f1c3pE1bK84&feature=related
No. Plushenko is the best skater of last generation. His longevity, detremination, succes, invincibility is unique in figure skating history. Plushy received 75 6.0s in his carreer. Plushy was a kid when his can beat Yag, He is 3 times W champion, 7 times E Champion, 4GPF champion, he has 1 Oly gold and 2 silver, since 1998 he was two times out off podium. Only! Since the age of 15!! And Yagudin retired 11 years ago, Plushy could adapt to the new system, not once. this is no doupt,he is the best.
How can you dare (klaudia555) to call Yashka "ugly"?!I'm convinced the only thing that is ugly is your soul! And by the way, if beauty is everything that matters to you I'm very sorry for you! Yagudin is pure passion and forever the best!
