DISCLAIMER: Please understand that installing macOS Big Sur on your unsupported Mac is a best effort by the community. A ton of work went into getting the patcher to work! Some things might not work exactly right but it's really really close. I would not recommend installing on a system that you rely on for work or school. ALWAYS BACKUP YOUR FILES FIRST BEFORE YOU UPGRADE! The good news is that you are getting the latest security fixes from Apple. Some might argue that upgrading to Patched Monterey makes your Mac safer since Apple is no longer fixing security issues on 10.13 and below.

Thank you Mr. Macintosh and OCLP developers,. I was able to get Monterey 12.01. running on 2011 MacBook with 4 gb RAM and traditional spinning drive. It runs faster than Catalina and doesn't require at least 8 gb to run efficiently like with Big Sur. Monterey 12.1 installation is next on 2009 27" iMac.

@W7WIL
@W7WIL 2 года назад
Just in case anyone else runs into the same problems I did, my Mid-2014 MBP would hold at the Apple logo with a progress bar that would not move. I booted into safe mode by pressing Shift while loading from the OCLP picker menu and once I was in there, I installed the Post-update patches. After that, I was able to boot up and then install the patcher on the EFI of my MBP’s internal SSD. I know that it has been said that the post update patches aren’t required but in my case they seemed to be the only thing that allowed me to get into the system. I’m not certain but I think it was caused by the dual GPU of the system. Everything seems to be working flawlessly now. Thank you MrMacintosh for your tutorial.

Speaking about 2008-2013 HD4000 and Kepler starts at 19:22, as that is when you start installing the post volume patches. Not 19:48, as the chapter dictates. Awesome video though!!! Very clear, straightforward, and easy to understand- you explain things we might not know very quickly but still effectively.

First and foremost, Thanks. The vast community involved with everything that makes feats like this possible are truly unsung heroes. Not everyone has the funds to drop $2-10k on a Mac, EVERY YEAR, some, probably more than a few people, need to keep using what we've already spent monies on for various reasons. Everyone loves buying something new and shiny. But what never gets old for me is the satisfaction using something I enjoyed maxing out over a period of time, like my 5,1 MP now running Big Sur. I still have various iPods and iPod classics upgraded to flash storage that cost as much when they were new, but no one said hobbies were cheap, but definitely at least for me, the most rewarding. Thank you again.
@Maximara
@Maximara 2 года назад
Why would anyone drop $2-10k on a Mac, EVERY YEAR?! Unless you NEED to be on the cutting edge Mac has an insane live span. My 2013 iMac supports Catalina (came out 2019) which got an update to its OS in 2022. That is THREE YEARS of new OS and NINE YEARS of OS support.
@emotionalintelligence776
@emotionalintelligence776 2 года назад
@@Maximara Not sure why people post silly questions that APPLE answers every year with their new product releases. And for those who fail to comprehend the obvious, the fact remains that Apple through controlled obsolescence forces you to upgrade. That has nothing to do with I have a decade-old Mac Pro that still runs blah blah, it has to do with money. Apple does not generate its billions with its consumers using old devices that profit is from new purchases. Do you need a new iPhone EVERY year, no, yet Apple makes a new iPhone do they not? But that's not the driving force, the new OS is what forces you to pony up to a newer device and if it was not for modders, many Apple fan lovers would be using a Microsoft PC!
@Maximara
@Maximara 2 года назад
@@emotionalintelligence776 As I said before a Mac will support OSes to at least THREE YEARS after its production date so the claim "new OS is what forces you to pony up to a newer device" is nonsense as parts of the much cheaper PC world are still using Windows XP. Never mind the Mac is not the top dog in revenue. Heck, in 2019, $260.2 billion was in iPhone sales services being $68.4 billion in 2021 (one of the reasons Apple is fighting the EU and US efforts to open up iOS) with Mac seeing $35.1 billion in 2020 (largely due to the M1s.

Thanks a lot, @Mr. Macintosh - your guide helped me to install Monterey on my late 2013 iMac. The guide was flawless, and the OS is almost the same on this 'aged' machine. Was going to give up after Catalina stopped being officially supported and switch to Elementary (I'm not tied to Apple, and have used Linux in the past), but this has kept me in the world of Mac for the time being. Thanks again for all the steps being so well laid out and explained, and also to all those who help compile these patches and related bits and pieces.

Hi Felix this is interesting for me too. May I ask what configuration are you running n terms of hardware and if you use your set-up professionally? I.e. is it reliable? What software are you using (ex. : Final Cut Adobe Premiere After Effects, Logic etc.) and is it running smoothly?
@felix-antoinelebel755

@@HoniSoitQuiMalPense I have run the procedure on 3 machines successfully. First I did a late 2009 MacPro 5,1 12 core Xeon 2.66GHz 128Gb DDR3 1Tb NVMe Nvidia quatro K5000 4Gb, with upgraded wifi bluetooth card. Then I did a late 2013 15 inch retina macbopok pro 8,2 16Gb Ram 1Tb NVMe. The latest i did is a late 2008 MBP5,1 8gb ram 240Gb SSD. In all cases the install was nearly flawless and I got help from the OCLP community on discord. The Mac Pro is the workhorse I use for heavy computing. I almost use it for Matlab/Simulink only. Sometimes I get laggy mouse response, but I think it has to do with the logitech mouse itself rather than the computer. I have also tried using this computer as an airplay device and i get tiny interuptions in streaming every now an then... But still I am pretty amazed with the performances I get from that 12 yr old machine! The Retina I use as a lab computer on which I run parallel desktop and windows 10. It is a good computer for misc tasks so my main MBP M1 remains for office tasks. The third computer (2008 MBP5,1) was just for the sake of trying to save this machine from going to the junkyard. It is decent for very mild applications such as web browsing but I would not want to use it as my main. I notices some gitches her and there with the color of the windows when I move the cursor around. All in all I find it pretty great that we are able to save all these machines from planned obsolescence. I get when apple would want to stop supporting older machines, but still find it shameful to throw away perfectly fine hardware. The fact that macs can last so long is a testimony to the quality of these computers in the first place.

You are a legend. Verified. Undisputed. Keep it up. Thanks a million! On a mini 2012 i7, I had a few "Don't panic" moments. Just the installer will reboot on its own during the install, and you will get a "Mac OS X is not supported on this machine" message in the preboot environment, don't panic. Just reboot again, press option key while rebooting, choose the legacy patcher and press option key simultaneously, and then choose the "Install Mac OS" or something like that option that you will see next. NOT the "Install Monterey" you should have on your USB stick. Installed 12.0.1 and the computer feels much faster. I'm proceeding to update to see if anything happens. Also make sure you have your Apple ID up to date with all your contact info, such as phone numbers and alt emails, so that when you have to log into your account on your new machine you may not find yourself locked out of your account by accident. Just saying. I've seen it happen quite a few times.
