...and Monteverdi wanted it explicitly the other way around: the soprano so free that it needs a conductor and a full score (instead of part book) to be able to accompany it. Now the soprano is accompanying the continuo and fits her rubato into the bass frame. Until now there is now one (except the commenter) who realised it as Monteverdi asked for it. Very nice singing anyway, and the living room has indeed a special acoustic. And I like the crying boy.

@@RicardoBaptista33 it is not correct: it is true that Italian derives from Tuscan (from Florentine to be precise), however already from 1300 (after Dante and Petrarca) this language became the language of poetry, literature, music and official documents in all the Italian states, the language spoken by the upper classes. Clearly, like all languages, Italian has also evolved and changed over the centuries, but the words of these poems (such as "il lamento della ninfa") are perfectly comprehensible even to an Italian today.

L'italiano come lingua esisteva tuttavia fin dal quattordicesimo secolo: inizialmente era una lingua letteraria evolutasi dal volgare toscano ma diffusasi velocemente in tutti gli Stati (repubbliche, ducati etc) in cui era diviso il territorio italiano: era la lingua dei poeti, dell'aristocrazia e dei documenti ufficiali....dire che l'italiano non è esistito come lingua fino all'800..è un errore storico

Acabei de chegar em casa, depois de me recusar a participar de uma daquelas festas insuportáveis de fim de ano - justamente o tipo de festa pela qual, infelizmente, quase todo mundo, alguma vez na vida, já teve o desconforto de passar, apenas para ser gentil com seus colegas de trabalho - e não hesitei em procurar esta música aqui no RU-vid. Como se tratava, ao menos no meu caso, de um daqueles típicos momentos de confraternização de funcionários, onde a gente já sabe por antecedência que, após as primeiras rodadas de caipirinha, cerveja e vodca, os sibilos dos comentários maldosos começam a transparecer por detrás dos sorrisos de felicidade fingida, e o pau pode comer solto a qualquer instante, a essa tal alegria de botequim que, já há tantos anos, me provoca náuseas e ataques de nervos, prefiro a companhia da minha pobre cachorra de estimação e - é claro - dessa música magnífica que parece um autêntico presente de Deus, mesmo quando é capaz de nos levar às lágrimas. Without Bach the history of Music would have been the same. Without Monteverdi not so. Monteverdi brought us from the Roman counterpoint to the modern harmonic taste.
I don't hate on any form of pre-contemporary music. It's usually just not my thing. But my ears make exception for most of Monteverdi's compositions when they are performed well, especially the darker sounding ones. Listening to this is just SO good!

Ma infatti dovrebbe essere così. E’ la quarta voce che canta il lamento della ninfa, non la ninfa che si sta lamentando. A me personalmente le interpretazioni troppo “parlate”, o al contrario quelle cantate troppo, “ottocentesche”, non piacciono.
