For me this is one of the most precious and moving moments of Monteverdi and in all music history. Thank you for this incredible interpretation. I am returning to it regularly like to a very dear friend.
Monteverdi is reckoned as one of the greatest composers in the history of Western music, so one can hardly call him "underrated." Unjustly neglected, in some some sense perhaps, but not underrated. (I am fortunate to have heard, several years ago, his three extant operas, conducted by John Eliot Gardiner, in Chicago.)
Underrated in the sense of his name being little known to so many people. They surely heard of Mozart and Beethoven and Wagner but don’t know what wonderful music Monteverdi created.
Monteverdi was never underrated. Our society is constantly changing. For a long time, music of the Middle Ages, the Renaissance and the Baroque period, not forgetting Celtic music, which was only known locally, was only accessible to a small number of people. They have made a strong comeback over the past forty years, and thanks to recent new technologies, such as streaming platforms, RU-vid for example, this music has been made accessible to all those who did not have the means for a concert ticket, the new generations in particular, and are discovering the splendour of those kinds of music.

At risk of being gauche, may I share I found this due to a trimmed 2min version heard in a video game. Borderlands, the song in the game is the Death of Claptrap. Was very happy to find this longer version, very beautiful music. Thx OP for the upload.

Sur le plan large (à 1:50) : le théorbe à droite, l'architluth à gauche. Renforcés par une harpe. Le reste se sont des cordes frottées : violons (qui ne jouent pas) et ténors et basse de violes derrière. Tu les différencies du violoncelle par le nombre de cordes (supérieur à quatre : ici six) et la présence de frètes sur le manche (comme une guitare).

@@b0x0fmatch35 Don't be angry. For me It's one of the most beautiful versions of "the lament" ever heard!!! However there is a misunderstanding among the male voices with a wrong chord at 4:56. Having sung this masterpiece many and many times it was impossible not to notice it. However chapeau! Chapeau! Chapeau! In the next life I wish to sing like Paul Agnew or the others. They are fantastic (and Monteverdi is the greatest of all times).
