The Montreal Canadiens offseason is rolling silently and uneventfully along, but we've got you covered with Montreal Canadiens talk as always. We tackle a listener suggested topic - is Nick Suzuki truly a number 1 centre? And how does he stack up against the rest of the league? Are there really 31 centres better than he is? And where does Kirby Dach land on the depth chart? In our first segment, we talk about what Nick Suzuki brings to the team and what he needs to do to convince the world he is a true number 1 centre. In our second segment we discuss Kirby Dach and the Habs depth. Finally, in our third segment, we talk about the other centres in the league and sort them into tiers, and discuss whether Nick Suzuki can elevate himself into a higher tier.

Watch in 2-3 years when our top 6 are all top notch. Suzuki with Demidov and Slaf on PP with Hutson and Reinbacher. Then Dach with Caufield and LAINE and Logan and Guhle. Depending on who we are playing go 4 forwards using Newhook and Roy. Will be nice when we have 100 pt players. Will be nice to have all these options.

He was 16th in scoring among centers and did that on a team that wasn't good - one that didn't have a second-line level center for most of the season. So yeah, by NHL standards he's a middle of the road top line center, which is the same as saying one of the 16 best centers on the planet.

Suzuki, Cole, and Demidov with Reinbacher, and Hutson on the PP, I see 100 points. Dach, Slaf, Mesar, with Xhehaj and Mailloux on the second unit will add to PP scoring totals.

Why is this even a question anymore? Of course he is a #1 center in the NHL- the stats don't lie. Nick Suzuki has led the Habs in scoring every year for the last 3 years - not just in regular season but in the playoffs as well. Slick Nick just had 77 points this past year when he scored 33 goals and 44 assists. Suzuki is only 24 and he is basically already a PPG player. Plus Captain Nick is very solid defensively. He is a complete 200 foot player who excels in all situations whether it's 5 v5 or PP or PK. He has improved as a player every year and he is now solid on the FO dot as well. The lack of respect for Nick Suzuki is crazy. He is one of the most underrated and underappreciated players in the NHL. What more does he need to do to prove that he is a #1? Suzuki is a Top line number 1 center all day long. Smh

Suzuki is surely the first line center in Montreal...but would he be a first line center in a real cup contending team??? Time will tell...!!!

Was bergeron a first line center I don't recall him hitting 100 points?

Patrice Bergeron never even hit 80 points in his best season. Bergeron got 79 points and that was in 2018-19 when Bergeron had 32 goals(his highest goal total) and 47 assists when he was 34 years old. Nick Suzuki just got 77 points this past year. Nick had 33 goals - more than Bergeron has ever had - and 44 assists and he is only 24 years of age. Bottom line; Nick is better offensively than Bergeron ever was but Patrice was probably better defensively. Let's not forget that Bergeron played on a stronger team than Suzuki does presently. Suzuki is a Top line # 1 NHL center all day long

If he plays on the first line, he’s a first line center, end of debate….

I agree totally but even more to the point, his stats and numbers prove that he is unquestionably a Top line #1 Center. This shouldn't even be a question any more.

This is actually ridiculous question but I'll answer it anyway just to shut the doubters up: Nick has led the team in scoring every year for the last 3 years. He just had 77 points, including 33 goals - more than Patrice Bergeron ever had. At age 24, Suzuki is already a PPG player. He was 30th in scoring across the NHL and tops on Montreal, playing for a weak offensive team. Suzuki is excellent at both ends of the ice. He has great vision and he came up clutch in the playoffs. He isan ironman who has not missed a single game in his NHL career to date. also a natural leader who does everything possible to help his teammates.. There are NOT 31centers that are better than him. In fact when we look at the complete picture in every aspect, I doubt that there are 15 Centers in the NHL that are better than him Can we Now PLEASE cease and desist from posing this stupid question? The answer is obvious. Nick's a #1 Center all day long.
