Open since 2011, the Maison Symphonique de Montréal is one of the world's leading concert halls and the home of the internationally acclaimed Montreal Symphony Orchestra, founded in 1935. The 2,100-seat hall was built to the most exacting international standards of natural acoustics, stage design and architecture, insulating the space from noise and vibrations from both inside and out to intimately immerse audiences in an exceptional audio and visual experience. It has also held a record 93% occupancy rate since it opened and is the only concert hall in North America where the average age of the audience is declining. Make sure to take in a concert on your next trip to Montreal!

The hall is top notch, the only thing missing here in Montreal is an exigent audience that could challenge the OSM to become a world class orchestra.

Truly a world class building! I was wondering what preceded this symphony hall?

Salle Wilfred-Pelletier next door at Place des Arts was the original home of the symphony, but it was not built with the same acoustic capability in mind.

The Wilfrid-Pelletier concert hall next door. But it was build for ballet and opera as well. It doesn’t have the same acoustic qualities to support a wide range of instrumental composition from soloist instrument to a symphonic orchestra.

So what is the purpose now of Place Des Arts? What kind of programming is presented there (when not in a pandemic, that is)
@DiscoverMontréal
@DiscoverMontréal 2 года назад
Shows of every kind: opera, theatre, stand-up comedy. It has become the main venue of the Quartier des spectacles and all the festivals that are hosted there each year.

What is typically considered as classical music (except operas) has been transferred to la Maison symphonique. La Place des Arts hosts a total of 5 concert halls. The smallest has 130 seats and the largest (la salle Wilfrid-Pelletier) has 3000 seats. La Place des arts presents any kind of performing arts. Operas, ballets, Broadway style musicals, dance, jazz, pop/rock music, theatre, comedy, or events like fundraisers, conferences, or galas. The complex also hosts the offices of the Montreal Opera, a theatre company (la compagnie Jean-Duceppe) and, up to recently, Les Grands Ballets.

I enjoyed learning about the hall, but having two overlapping soundtracks in the first third of the video is very unpleasant to the ears, I almost had to stop listening. And the 15 seconds of dance music at the end felt out of place and entirely unnecessary.

agreed, having decent relative pitch I found it to be painful haha, I wonder if any OSM players would be able to make it through.
