Thanks for sharing your video i really miss Montreal so badly i use to live in Montreal from 1983 to 1993 in 1993 i move to Toronto yes metro Montreal is much quiet and faster than Toronto metro because of the wheels Montreal metro use rubber Toronto metro use steel and some stations is very deep under the building .thanks again take care bye from milton Ontario
@MartyGlenn72
@MartyGlenn72 Год назад
Of course due to the deeper stations in Montreal, it usually takes a longer amount of time to get in and out of those stations. So any time saved with the "faster" trains is lost trying to get in and out of the stations. Plus, the smell of burnt rubber is not so appealing to me! 😁

Berri UQAM. Station is at the corner of Berri and saint Catherine street. A transfer point between Orange line, Green line and Yellow line (to Man and his world a.k.a. laRonde, Expo 67 which is closed in winter, the second stop is to Longueuil a city on the south side suburbs off Montreal but off island. UQAM is the University of Quebec (Quebec City) at Montreal. There is city of Montreal in the province of Quebec. Then there is Quebec City in the province of Quebec. (The provincial capital). The orange line goes north to south and the south side of the downtown area. The green line goes in the direction of east + west, traversing the downtown core closer to Sherbrooke Street, de Maisonneuve + St Catherine streets. St. Laurent is known as “the Main”. Where many European immigrants first lived especially in the 1960’s, 70’s, 80’s (Portuguese, Italians, German, Eastern Europeans, Spanish, Latinos, Jewish…). Many European deli’s could be found there along with restaurants. Now in 2023 slowly changing.

@@eimat67 Good lofty goal, but you better do it soon or that simple smoke meat sandwich will soon reach $20.00 +15% taxes ! Currently it's hovering around $17.95 +taxes. I remember when they were $4.25 in 2011 and I have to order two sandwiches as one and half just hits the spot.

TIP: A station much closer to your hotel is metro Place D'Armes. Get off here, go thru Palais Des Congres (next door) and walk right to the end then exit and cross the street. Your hotel right there.

1:26 RMTransit talked about this in one of his videos, and that's that the Metro really needs more than one ticket machine per station lol, I remember it was quite annoying for me to buy a pass, simply because I had to wait in line to use the station's single ticket machine
@XxxXxx-fm3wo

The bike racks and city bikes are put out in Spring through till fall, taken away in Winter. BIXI bikes, pay as you go. The metro system was built for the 1967 World’s Fair. EXPO 67. As they dug out the metro they put the earth into the St. Laurence River and created man made islands where the EXPO 67 was held, now called LaRonde amusement park open just before school ends in June and closes when school starts in the fall. You can see the Islands either from Old Montreal, Jacques Cartier Bridge or from the South Shore city of Longueuil.

Actually they completely changed the station! That's why it was boarded up. New elevators were part of the whole remake though! You wouldn't believe the change if you saw the old Mont Royal station

Montreal subway is 100% underground . A new skytrain of 10 billion $ is under-construction . Fully automated public transport every 3 minutes connecting the original subway to the south shore , airport and the west Island . Montreal is built on an Island 10 times bigger than Manhattan with a central park ( Mount Royal ) . Same architect has NYC central park .

Berri-UQAM is basically the "Bloor-Yonge" of the system. It's certainly much more spacious than its Toronto equivalent. Generally, those Montreal transfer stations are good - most (like Lionel Groulx) offer cross-platform transfers where you don't even need to go up or down stairs to transfer between lines. Hope you enjoyed your time in Montreal.

Old School? Have you ever seen the Toronto subway stations built in the ‘50s with their narrow platforms and low ceilings? They resemble claustrophobic public washrooms - they’re also increasingly dirty and poorly maintained.

@@unknownuser0006 Canada has 2 official languages english and french ...Does Toronto or Vancouver make announcements in the 2 official languages... NO Bilinguisme is not only for the french speaking . The announcements are very basic in any languages meaning the name of the next station .

I think all public transit should be required to have both French and English at least in all of the major Canadian cities like some of the road signs i just think it makes sense. The UP express does it I feel like it’s not even that big of a deal now that so much is digital anyway.

Don't feel bad if you butcher the pronunciation of the station names. Back in 1980, a couple of friends and I went up to Montreal, and just to have fun, one of my friends purposely mispronounced some names when asking people for directions. For example, he pronounced Longueuil as "Long-Wheel", Pie IX as "Pie Eye-Ex", and Lionel-Groulx as "Lionel Grool-Ex", LOL!

Toronto is so poor and not a high tech city , there is no WIFI in the subway in Toronto .... Montreal is a world class city with the best high tech subway system in North america. ON July 31th 2023 , a new automated transit system will be in opération , an investment of 10 $ billion .
