@@tinkrtailr1:22 I thought so too, but I checked. Not necessarily. It doesn't say the owners are different. It's unclear. Seems like a decent reporter would have mentioned that or included and interview with whomever lived there. 'Who, what, where, when and why' It's the first one in that expression. So WHO owns the house?? 🏠
@@asongfromunderthefloorboards -- first wrong use of the word dystopian, typically found in welfare, socialist and communist forms of govt. secondly it's colours only and nothing on the building says anything corporate.
@@nickyalousakis3851 So you really think cyberpunk dystopias are actually utopias because megacorporations are not the government? Our current capitalist hellscape is already a dystopia for most people. It's part of an ad campaign. Maybe houses should be for people instead of being billboards.
I thought it was an artistic expression of some eccentric owner/artist, but then again at least it's not shamelessly labeled with logos or anything haha
St. John’s Newfoundland has historically painted all its downtown houses in bright colours and it makes the people feel happy even on the foggiest days. Montreal could learn something from the Newfs!
@@leannecanty8821 It's weird that people focus on the colour, but completely ignore the fact it's a brick house. Perhaps these people are just not used to brick and don't understand the problems with painting over it?
That's a couple of streets in the city's downtown, the rest of the city and the province is 90% white and 9% grey houses. I live there. Just street view it in any community. Why it gotta be white??
Lovely in a tropical climate, but I assume you aren’t painting brick there? A big part of the issue here is it’s brick, which should never be painted because it’s destructive to the home.
Problem is it’s all for an ad. Other companies join in and now you get the most horrid looking hodgepodge of homes design as the goal is to stick out and make people looks. If it was a museum or home owner I wouldn’t mind much.
There IS valid reasoning behind not painting brick though. It's intended to be a porous surface that absorbs wicks and evaporates moisture. Painting it stops that process and can ultimately lead to bricks becoming brittle and crumbling. It's what's caused partial building collapses in the US somewhat recently. It's not really the colours that's the issue, it's painting brick. I agree though, we absolutely should be allowed to have more colourful spaces and buildings that aren't brick and can be painted fun colours.
It's ugly. Progressives are just pandering to "The emperor's new cloths" and the idea that anything anti-establishment or historical, is bad, so let's ruin it.
@Fenthule yeah, but that does not fit that narrative of many of these folks. Who knew that ignorance stirs out populist reaction?: " we're becoming communists, it's distopian, etc.
Once you paint brick it ruins it. The entire point of brick is that it is low maintenance. Once painted you can never get all the paint off and you will be stuck painting it continually. IMHO they should have just covered it with vinyl not paint that they could have removed.
Its marketing and the company that did the painting have said they will be removing and restoring it, pretty sure it is removable (probably water based) paint. 1:30
Bylaws have always existed??? Painting brick is genuinely a bad thing because it stop it from wicking moisture which is intentionally used in building design and can lead to bricks getting brittle and breaking. Go cry in the corner like a child, there are laws that govern every space in Canada. Deal with it.
I don't see any text or letters that infer advertisement. The only thing I see, is a residential building with some beautiful colors painted on it. Get the local government out of citizens lives!😡
Apparently nobody in these comments is aware that you SHOULD NOT PAINT BRICKS! They are meant to wick moisture and that is factored into the building designs. When you paint them, they stop wicking moisture as the paint acts like a barrier, and over time they dry out and get brittle and break. This has recently caused buildings in parts of the US to have partial collapses. It is a genuinely bad thing to do from a safety perspective. Plus not to mention as a home owner, I'm sure you wouldn't want you walls collapsing a few years later simply because you painted them, right? These bricks are already really old and would be more brittle than newer bricks, therefore the rick would be increased big time. It's a bad idea - plus house advertisements are tacky AF.
I love your smart enough to know that. You stole my thunder in a lengthy way. But it’s to bad people don’t get it. And that looks like latex which is not going to be removed 100 percent with out brick damage. And for the person wondering about brick safe paint unless it rises off with water stay away from messing with brick
Apparently, you didn't watch the whole video, like the part where it says it is temporary until July 8th after which the building will be restored. You know, like sidewalk chalk. Washes off. Chill.
@@firewood9991 ya ok dude. You clearly don’t see that it looks like latex paint on the surface not chalk. And it clearly isn’t. Good luck with the chalk theory
Telus has money for paint, but they don’t want to pay Canadians a unionized wage anymore. That’s why you wait 3 hours plus for customer service from India or the Philippines.
Telus need to bring jobs to Canada. The price we pay for telecom, no excuse to give jobs to the Phillipines. If you speak french make sure to select the French customer service option to speak to someone in Canada
Unless you live in Tibuktu or Atlantis, or you live in an anarchist society, unfortunately there are rules that governs a territory, whether you own the property or not.
How dare the tax paying owner of the house paint it without approval of the State. They should fine him and double his property taxes. The desire for freedom in Canada MUST stop !
Good news. I’ll send all my bills the province of Quebec. It’s not an HOA. You can have all my bills since I don’t understand them anyway. Apparently, it doesn’t matter that the supreme court of Canada says that this is a bilingual country. This time, I vote to separate!
@@edmundcrowley2518 don’t know where you’re from, but it’s all spelled out in our charter of rights and freedoms. Canadians are allowed to love who they love. We don’t let the government or other governments from other countries tell us what we will let them do. They work for us. If we want rainbow, we will paint them everywhere. We are not bigots.
Good thing Montreal politicians have solved all their other problems so they can focus on this pressing issue 🙄 The issue is more likely xenophobic Quebecois hate mongering. After all who knows if "Koodo" is a proper French word.
Damn a Quebecois really hurt you didn’t they lmao! everyone interviewed said it looked really nice😂 maybe dont put bureaucrates and every single person in the province in the same bag. I don’t care about protecting our language that much like our politicians do and I know many other quebecois who thinks like me so maybe chill a second. BTW, Any kind of stereotype is xenophobic. That also includes québécois stereotypes ✌🏼
If the company followed guidelines provided, the owners should keep the colors and take local gov’t to court for harassment. I’ve been to Montreal. Many buildings are just so boring. Jazzing them up should be applauded, not fined.
The issue is that painting brick can trap moisture, like painting stucco, which could lead to rot. Heritage buildings weren't built with rainscreen. How are they going to strip all the paint from the brick to return it to the way it was?
Wooden Victorian houses are painted in several colours, called painted ladies, this is not one of them! Big business has no business turning houses into advertising billboards, especially without approval! They commandeer enough airtime on every social media platform already!
I love it!!! Its so bright and happy!!!! Old homes were so many different colors. Grew up near one that was bright pink from the time it was built. I'd love to see more of us paint our homes in ways that better express our selves. If the paint used here hurts the original building I understand the concern. But not the color. Let people live as they wish so long as noone is being hurt and everyone is safe.
Maybe that architect should.... stop selling their properties then? IDK what to tell you bud.... if YOU want my money, you don't get to decide what I do with that item afterwards. Part of this social contract is the premise that you can have ownership of the item or ownership of my money, but you can't have both because then I'm the only one losing property.
Maybe not the bricks to preserve whatever, but the idea is amazing... can you imagine the whole neighborhood colored even during the winter??? I loved the idea!
@@cathyosbourne6986 you are about to find out the problems with triggering people, and you are about to be the one who becomes sad. Just remember, you provoked it. You asked for what is coming. It's paint! Paint can be changed. However, there are many beautiful towns where the whole town is colorful!! If it's temporary for advertising well I don't get that. But if it's to brighten up the neighborhood, why not!!! Just my opinion
It's just colour... and the paint they used is temporary. They've been doing this type of ad campaigns in the UK since the 2000's where they cover older buildings with temporary paint then peel them off again once the event is over.
Lovely colors, remember back in the 70s-80s-90s when everything was colorful? The hair, the clothes and the cars? Why do a bunch of old fogeys insist on draining color from everything?
Tapos yung urban environment magiging katulad sa Maynila with the big billboards sa EDSA, yung mga eletrical wires nagiging spider webs sa taas ng kalsada, yung mga deteriorating state ng mga buildings, etc. ? No thanks. Having regulations is not being a Karen, it's putting order to chaos, especially when it comes to the governance of a big city.
1:22 The city has 2 points: 1-there is a regulation preventing the painting of bricks. 2- this is illegal use of residential area for commercial purpose. That’s a big no-no. Lastly: in 10years from now, this is going to look horrible. Who do you think will end up paying the cleaning bill?
The colours are fun and the campaign was totally expecting and counting on the publicity from the press. I don't like the fact that the colours were part of an advertising campaign, but if it was the homeOWNERS, the city should have no right to stop their palette choice. This is culture in the living, so who's to say the colours that were chosen a hundred years ago are a better choice then the colours chosen now? There's a reason why the century old house looks like the way it does, someone made a choice. Can't living people make a choice about their property now? Must we be hostages to the choices people long dead had made? 🤔
Forgot to add that bricks should've probably been let out of the painting, or they've should've used a breathable wash. Bricks are designed like terracota planters, they're meant to be breathable. Painting bricks with a sealing paint is like painting a glasspane. You lose the main property of the material and what it's intended to do.
I rather like the look. Cities tend to look dull and boring to me. I live in a suburban exurb of a city. I only go into cities to work. I stay out of them otherwise because they really are just so dull and boring and make me depressed. The buildings look all the same to me in the same colors, etc., dull grays and browns. I'm used to the colors of Nature, which can be very garish at times, but is enjoyable to see nonetheless. A few colorful murals on a couple of city buildings doesn't even begin to be attractive enough to interest me to go into a city. Cities should, themselves, be colorful and vibrant.
that's why I love living in the section of Wisconsin know as the Northwoods area so many places surrounding by nature and so many outdoor activities to do too it's absolutely beautiful up here
Absolutely love it, we’re sad to see the traditional colourful buildings slowly disappear from the east coast. It’s a part of our culture we may lose if people continue to push for neutrals.
1. I think it looks tacky, and I would NEVER do that myself. 2. It's private property, and the owners should be able to do whatever they want with it. If a piece of property is of such historical importance that it needs to be protected, then let the government buy it and protect it.
From St Johns NL here ✌️ we have many houses exactly like this and everybody just lives their lives. It won’t kill you to see colours other than grey and beige
I freaking love this!!!!!!!! Can’t paint brick? This is why I’ve never had my home certified as a historic house. Built in 1871. Nope! Busybodies have nothing better to do
