Best part is - they arrested the wrong person. The knight that killed the historian is the only knight on a real horse.

I knew this movie was clever but the more I hear & think about it I'm just absolutely amazed. The amount of things that can go over the viewers head is practically strategic and genius. These guys we're ahead of their time!

Python's humor is absurd, surreal, silly and oddly brilliant. The more you know about the King Arthur story the times and the characters, the more amazing it is. Many of us grew up watching their TV show in the early 70s. Soon, we were all imitating their accents and skits, turning everyday events into the depraved. When they quit doing the show we thrived on reruns. Then they put out this movie. We were already acclimatized so it was slipping into a warm comfortable tub. The theater was packed when I saw it in '75. Nearly everyone there was around my age and the laughter was frequent and loud.

Something I always love about this film that no one ever seems to get is the depiction of the flagellants (the monks who were hitting themselves with their books). During times of turmoil, there were people who were convinced that the plague or famine or war was divine punishment, so they whipped themselves through the streets in an attempt to atone for their sin and inspire the population to repent. I also love the dirty drawings in the margins of each chapter of the film: this was absolutely a practice of those horny little monks as well.

This movie was funded by rock bands and record companies. Eric Idle revealed that Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Jethro Tull frontman Ian Anderson had all contributed to the budget. Other financiers included Micheal White, Island Records, Charisma Records, Heartaches Cricket Team and Chrysalis Records.

Unbeknown to past-me, I wore my "Knights who say Ni" t-shirt today, only to find my future-self watching your reaction video.

My friend's dad was a Sears tv/stereo salesman back around 1977. As a perk, he got a big Sears TV with a built-in custom video tape recorder/player. They included a tape of the Grail in the bundle. So we got to watch the movie. We rewound the scene with the new name of the Knights of Ni about 30 times to get the new name straight. You need to understand it was revolutionary to be able to rewind a movie. This was before VHS and Beta VCRs came out. You couldn't rewind TV. You might record an 8mm film, have it developed and then play it at home on a reel-to-reel projector and then rewind, but not TV! "We are now the knights who say echy, echy, echy, echy FU-tang ZU-boing gahzaaangz ... Ni!" delivered by the magic of brand new modern technology. There were some disagreements about some of the syllables, but hey, that's life.

"bring out your dead" Was shouted each night during the plague in London, and probably other cities as well. People who had died that day had to be buried in open pits (called plague pits) because there we so many of them, and people had go round collecting that day's dead people to be carted off to the plague pits. So people would go round with carts shouting 'Bring out your dead" and people who were lockdown due to plague had to open their doors and hand over their dead relatives. We had an old plague pit near us. It had been converted into a park because no one wanted to dig foundations for houses on it. Plagues were quite common in Europe at that period. One third of the population of Europe died in the Black Death, due to bubonic plague. And bubonic plague kept coming back. Lockdowns were very severe, people had their doors nailed shut and red crosses painted on the door on them if they had a case of plague in the house. I'm not sure how they managed to bring out their dead if their doors had been nailed shut. Maybe they threw them out the windows. "bring out your dead" is a phrase most English people will know, but it needs explanation for non-English people

The funny thing is, coconuts DO migrate. They're designed to float for ages.

Monty Python is a comedy troupe of 6 people so they are all popping up as different characters. I don't think they get the Grail in the legend of King Arthur either.

So the entire joke about the shrubbery was always just like this throwaway joke to me because I didn't get it as anything more than just this weird, bizarre conceit... until I went to University in the UK, and all the Brit kids around me were laughing hysterically at that part, and I didn't understand what was so damn funny, so I finally asked them what was so amusing... and that's when I finally got the joke. It's a joke that doesn't cross the ocean well. So I always explain it to everybody who is from the US and doesn't understand. So essentially, it all hangs on a bit of 70s slang. In essence the joke revolves around: a shrubbery is a bush, and a bush is a prostitute. So these guys are out in the woods by themselves for years, and they really want to have a girl to diddle... and so they asked them to bring them a prostitute. So when they get to town and there's a guy who "arranges and tastefully decorates shrubberies", and he's has his hair done just so & has a cart and all that, and he comes driving up looking fancy, and his name is Roger the Shrubber... To roger someone means to screw them; you "roger them"... & he sells shrubberies AKA bushes AKA prostitutes... so essentially they are saying so his name is "F*cker, The Pimp". And then they bring an actual shrubbery to the knights in the woods, and the knights are like, "you're not understanding what we're trying to get from you. Yes this is very nice but this is not what we were asking for, so go get us another one, and get it right this time." That is the joke that is actually hilarious, because the movie is full of sex jokes, but as noble knights of the Round Table (& possibly also a bit dim / in the meathead category), those guys aren't supposed to know about stuff like that because they are too pure, so they missed the point. You are now enlightened, LOL

The first time I saw this was in the back of a pickup with my siblings and a couple of friends.(It's still here btw)😎 4. Perfect Monty Python where you can just get sucked into something where you don't have to think about anything and just let yourself go. 5. "What ya gonna do? Bleed on me." 🤣 "Let's call it a draw" 🤣 6. Quick bit: "Blow it out your ass"! 7. The budget didn't allow real horses. 8. The only horse in the film is ridden by the guy that killed the historian. 9. Actually, all of them (except Grahame Chapman (Arthur) play different characters throughout (and even Chapman is one of the two guards in the Prince's room): John Cleese (Lancelot) is also, among others, Tim the Enchanter, the Black Knight and the Frenchman Michael Palin (Galahad) is the Swamp King, the Peasant, the Narrator, and the reader of the instructions for the Holy Hand Grenade Terry Jones (Bedivere) is also the Prince, and other minor roles Terry Gilliam (who is American) is the animator for all the sequences. He also plays Patsy, Arthur's "horse" and the Soothsayer, among others Eric Idle is Brave Sir Robin, sweet Concorde, and of course, Roger the Shrubber.

Imagine being buzzed with a friend and scanning the channels for something to watch late at night back in the early 80`s. We found this at the start and had no idea what it was. We laughed so hard and thought what the hell are we watching? It was so funny and stupid. That was my first time watching Monty Python.

This was a tragic tale of police profiling and false arrest. The killer of the famous historian had a REAL HORSE.

To be fair, they don't always get the Grail in the Arthur stories either. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't.

This is such a great movie from credits to the long ending. I love it. This is in my library of movies. Such classic humor. Some classic lines in this. My favorite character is the French knight. "I fart in your general direction!" & "Runaway! Runaway!" Great reaction!

My favorite running joke of the film is sir belavere was supposed to be the wisest of all the Knights and he makes horrible decisions, can't figure out how to say ni, and keeps having to life his visor when he can clearly see out of it.

The Pythons were the definition of brilliant. This move is almost 50 years old and Millennials still laugh at the jokes in all the right places. Timeless humor.

Horses were not included in the financial budget of this film because the film crew spent too much money on rabbits.

One of my fav movies of all time!!! I was a teenager in the 70s. I'm 63 now. This was an example of the kind of entertainment my generation grew up with. Explains a lot, right?! Lol!!! Blazzing saddles is an absolute must for people your age, it's Mel Brooks master piece, and I really enjoy watching new generations watch it, it's from 1974 and it's a satire western that's all you need to know I hope you know nothing else about it

To be fair, in the original story, nobody gets the Grail either .... and in the original story, of the knights we have here, only Galahad ever saw the Grail at all (because he was pure). So. They got that right! (And a lot of research went into the making of this sublimely silly movie, which helps with all the atmosphere that we get).

I love your reactions! It's so gratifying seeing a young person watch this movie. I saw it first. Run in the theater. And yeah it was out of this world insane. The ending took everyone by surprise and the theater was silent for a few moments after the movie ended and then there was a little laugh over there and a little laugh over here and pretty soon we were all just laughing because we realize what it just happened. It still is the most or one of the most amazing movies I've ever seen. And I love the board game pythonopoly. It's Monopoly based on this movie. You really need to check it out. 5:57

The Funny Thing is Arthur and his Knights get falsely Arrested because none of his Knights ride a horse and the knight who killed the Historian is tge only Knight who rode a Horse

Something a lot of people miss is that heraldic image on "Brave" Sir Robin's shield and tunic is a chicken.

I maintain that Sir Galahad has the most deadly challenge of all the knights. 8 score. That's 160 hyped up young ladies who all seen to want to become nymphomaniacs. That is a guaranteed cardiac arrest for Galahad! Ok, there are considerably worse ways to die. I really enjoyed your reaction. Especially your English and Scots accents. The film was a risk. Monty Python had only worked in the short sketch format: They couldn’t get financial backing. The film was shot on location in Britain. The weather was appalling. When not on set cast and crew had to wait around for hours in the cold and wet. It was not a happy experience and the atmosphere on location was tense. But the film turned out to an enormous hit. I’m 63. I went to see MP live at Drury Lane. Absolutely brilliant. John Cleese tends to get most plaudits. He left because he thought the creative originality had gone and they just rejigging the same idea (eg. the brilliant Cheese Shop sketch was redone as a sketch about a library). IMHO they were equally important. Arguably Michael Palin has been the most successful. Again great reaction. Subscribed.

Great reaction! I once watched this movie with my cousin and she was like “what did I just watch”? Another one their movies that is also really funny is Life of Brian. Check it out sometime if you have it already!

I have trouble getting through the opening credits when I am watching the movie because I am laughing so hard. It's hard to see the screen through the tears. The subtitles aren't in any language but remind me of people who think they can speak a language by taking English words and making them sound like they are German or Swedish, etc.

I've watched so many young people react to this movie and a lot, lot, lot of them are really bothered that they don't get the grail; some actually get angry about it. This reaction is really strange to me, and I think part of it is that young people for about three decades have been raised playing electronic games where everything is goal-focused and they end up expecting goal-fulfillment in films. Anyway, just the thoughts of someone who was alive when this film was released.

The quest is never ending. Lol. But to those of us who were Python fans we were used to such abrupt endings. Skits often segued into one another without warning. Also in the original legend the grail is never obtained by Arthur only by Sir Galahad because he was pure at heart. That's why the Castle Anthrax scene is so funny if you know Grail lore.

Goes over how bad the budget and what they could manage to film Amazingly talent group that started working as a group at and right after university. Definitely been to see th doc an watch some of their tv shows. Also a fish called Wanda is goreat but not the entire group. A funny heist film

Absurdist humour at its best. Python were genius and they were so clever at destroying old tropes. My favorite scenes are still the witch trial and of course Castle Anthrax.

Not sure if someone has said this. But the bit with the monks banging their heads with bibles are a gag reference to 'Bible Bashers'. Bible Bashers are what we in the UK call Christians who a known for being very forceful in imposing their religious views on to people.
