The part where Eric hits the gong is from the British game show "Take Your Pick". At the start, they would question potential contestants for 60 seconds. The contestant could not answer Yes or No to any question. If so, the assistant to the compere would hit a gong. Anyone who got through the time limit (30-60 seconds, can't remember which) moved on to the next round.
I watched this part of the sketch over and over again, just because Graham’s face at that moment and then John corpsing (being so rare) was just so hilarious. 🤣 Even Terry Jones is smirking like he’s trying not to corpse when they next show him! Dunno how Eric Idle managed a straight face. 😂
