Something for you not to miss; ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tmOZFAYeurY.html Moody Blues - "Question" - Royal Albert Hall. This is from a different album on the same date.
Breathe deep the gathering gloom, Watch lights fade from every room. Bedsitter people look back and lament, Another day’s useless energy spent. Impassioned lovers wrestle as one, Lonely man cries for love and has none. New mother picks up and suckles her son, Senior citizens wish they were young. Cold hearted orb that rules the night, Removes the colours from our sight. Red is grey and yellow white. But we decide which is right. And which is an illusion? this is the best part of the entire song.
Yeah, I can't get my head around that. How does a 19 year old educated but simple guy write a masterpiece that is so epic and enduring at such a young age?
"Nights In White Satin" is their most famous song. Moody Blues are one of my favorite groups from the 60's-80's. Love their mix of rock with classical music. Lots of great songs such as "Go Now", "Tuesday Afternoon", "The Story In Your Eyes", "Question", "Ride My See-Saw", "I'm Just a Singer (In a Rock and Roll Band)", "Gemini Dream", "The Voice" etc. All of their music is great! Many of their records are concept albums & meant to be listened to all at once. Sadly Ray Thomas their flute player & singer passed away in 2018 & their drummer Graeme Edge passed away in 2021.
I was not a huge Moody Blues enthusiast back in the day when I went to see them live. To this day it remains one of the best sounding concerts I ever saw. They were excellent live.
@@JeffTiberend I just wish it was one of their earlier concerts. This looks like something recent. I don't mind the gray hair but the voices just aren't the same anymore.
I’m addicted to watching live concerts, on RU-vid. I love watching musicians playing their instruments. To me, it adds so much. Thanks for doing this one. 👍
The 1967 official version has a poem at the end of it that really makes this song special. Look for Nights In White Satin-The Moody Blues (1967) A Timeless Classic.

Seen them 7 times. They're awesome with a mind bender. I stopped going to the shows after Ray passed away. Justin and John are the only two left. A really great band. And their record company never has their songs removed from RU-vid.
I was listening this a while ago, send it to my aunt.. she was on the phone the next morning.. she loved it we had a good conversation.. she listens to it regularly now. Power of music❤
I did see them with the orchestra. They were tourimg alot in us then. Maybe early 2000s. Maybe a little earlier. Need to check my stub. The best ive ever been to. And ive been going to live concerts since 68. I was 14 when first saw first concert and saw Sam and Dave. Moodies played every song on my wishlist. Gypsy was out of this world.
@@melissaward6311 Oh my, Gypsy is one of my favorites, along with too many others to list! You've been a fan longer than I. I knew their hits, like Nights and See Saw, but never realized how many wonderful songs they had till Redrocks. After that, I was hooked!! lol
@@dorothyirby5740 gypsy is one of my favorite also. It calls my name somehow. Yes im a boomer baby from earlier 50s. Man they had the whole auditorium mesmerized when gypsy started. They did it a little later and I was afraid it wouldn't be played. Needless to say I was sooo happy when it started . beautiful is all I can say.
This song came out in 1967. I was 17 years old. I am now 73 and still listen to The Moody Blues. This is one example why my generation can't stand the music of today.
🦋🦋🦋 When I first started dating my partner 14 years ago, this concert was on PBS, and I got to watch it on his 70" plasma television and a mighty impressive stereo system. I had a 24" regular ol' TV so needless to say I was blown away by everything that night! 🦋🦋🦋 💎💎💎 I've been listening to The Moody Blues for over 50 years now. They were a huge part of my life in high school, and they are a part of my memory and soul now. 💎💎💎
I love this song!! It was on the radio when I was 6 years old and I used to sing along with it, but had no idea what the song was about except..."love" and I have loved the Moody Blues ever since!! Thank you for another great reaction video!
The Moody Blues were one of my all-time favorite groups from the 1960s and 70s. This brought back a lot of memories. They were unique for their time, for their frequent use of orchestral backup. Other favorites included Tuesday Afternoon, Forever Autumn (Justin Hayward and Jeff Beck), and Question. This is a great review. Thank you!
The Moody Blues had their own unique sound. It transcends generations. There will always be a generation gap where music is involved but that never effects the great ones being enjoyed by all.
Moody Blues. These are the FATHERS of progressive rock -- and they kicked off the genre with _Days of Future Passed._ As a concept album it was a masterpiece, and "Nights in White Satin" was a fitting crescendo. First heard it in 1967, they re-released the single of "Nights" at the same time they released _Seventh Sojourn_ in 1972, and by then I was absolutely hooked. Admittedly there's a bunch of Prog rock bands out there that I revere, but Moodies is top on my list because they were the *_first_* -- none are going to top what the Moody Blues did for Prog; and to a man these five gentlemen's character and integrity were second to no man. The Classic 7 albums oughta get a Nobel Prize for Lit, ngl. The fact that it took as long as it did for these artists to get inducted into the R&RHOF was a criminal injustice -- and a shame Ray Thomas wasn't there to see it.
They were absolutely wonderful I n concert with the orchestra. The most moving concert I've ever been to. And ive been to many in my old lifetime. Ty for this. It means so much to me. I believe this is the tour thar I saw in the u.s. Justin s voice is a blessing to me. The whole band really. Rip Ray
I wish the live version included Graeme Edge's closing poem "Late Lament" but it was omitted from the concert video this was taken from. Nights with Late Lament with the orchestra is on the album "Best of the Moody Blues". Beautiful reaction Jamel!
This was my brother, Court's, favorite band. He passed away three years ago ON NEW YEARS DAY. He was on a pacemaker and only 15% of his heart worked and he was on a donor list. The pacemaker STOPPED either just before or EARLY IN THE AM. He was released from a week long emergency stay on NEW YEARS EVE. I bought him tickets for his birthday in his thirties. He was working on a car on jacks and an idiot "friend" kept sitting inside the car. My brother yelled at him to stop. He wouldn't, so my brother started to get from under the car, and he started to hear creaking as he was laying sideways, and the car came down and twisted his spine. Even in excruciating pain, HE MADE THE CONCERT!!! I worked event security and REALLY TRIED TO GET HIM BACKSTAGE. He was HAPPY ANYWAY and kept yelling, "OWW!" as tears of JOY streamed down his face as he clapped wildly. WE WERE LAUGHING and I WILL NEVER FORGET THAT MOMENT. 👏🎉😂 I woke up around 1:45 CST and am sitting here laughing in my bed as I LITERALLY FEEL the lung cancer tha spread to up my spne and into my brain, MELTING away as I talk to him. We are connected SPIRITUALLY. NO LIE. I AM ASTOUNDING DOCTORS AT VANDERBILT AND I WILL PUT TOGETHER PROGRAMS AND PACKAGES FOR CANCER PATIENTS TO BE BETTER INFORMED, PREPPED FOR TREATEMENT AND MAKE IT MORE COMFORTABLE AND NOT A SCARY EXPERIENCE AND IS CURABLE IN MOST CASES WITH PREVENTATIVE MEASURES, KNOWING SIGNS, TREATMENT, BEFORE/AFTER CARE, BETTER ACCOMODATIONS AND RIDES. ANYONE CAN GET IT WITH NO HISTORY AT ALL. I have come face to face with so many SURVIVORS who ARE CANCER FREE. MITACLES DO HAPPEN
They are a fabulous live act, full orchestra in great venues. They absolutely love their audience! And Justin H. ❤ sounds as good or better than he did decades ago. I'm so glad this video is available of a wonderful performance of one of the best songs I know.
I just love The Moody Blues and had the distinct pleasure of seeing them in the mid 70s. I have to mention my late friend Billy who was the lead singer in a local band where I live. His cover of this song was absolutely wonderful. Rest In Peace my friend. It's so hard to believe I will never hear your voice again.
You will hear Billy again and it will be just like old times, I'm sure he misses you as much as you miss him, if he could cover this song as absolutely wonderful as you say then he musta been a Super Cool G!uy ❤❤ he had Splendoferous Taste in Music ❤❤☘☘
I saw the Moody Blues at the Forum (so long ago I forget what year -- early '70's) -- Santana opened for them -- most fabulous concert I ever saw!!!! Santana was a new group, so not well-known, but after that night, everyone knew of Santana! The "Moodies" were just fantastic -- what an experience!!!
One of the greatest memories of my life was seeing Justin Hayward with the rest of the original Moody blues, plus a few additional players, perform this song live in concert in Richmond, VA. This was eight years ago. RIP, Justin Hayward, one of the originally most brilliant voices of all time.❤
I was in the 3rd grade when this song came out and our music teacher used to play the 45 and let us sing to it ! It's been one of my favorite songs ever since ! I'm now 62
Justin Haywood is still touring. Would have loved to have gone to a concert of his in March. He is in UK and I don't get back there til April, darn it!
I went to see them back in early 90s at an outdoor venue in Philly with lawn seats on a beautiful summer night. It was just so magical. Still think about that night when I hear their music.
I was able to hear this when they played it.. It Was and will Always be a Memory I was Blessed to hear in real Time. Ray Thomas was fabulous on his Flute !!! This Is in my my Top 5 Songs of all Time !
Every band member played multiple instruments. layering tracks they sounded like full orchestra backing them on studio tracks. Truly amazing talented band. Live they always had an orchestra, most of their music was written to include an orchestra. They were spectacular live. Moody Blues and Pink Floyd were 2 of my favorite concerts.
He wrote this in high school, and when he writes a line…. “Just what you want to be,you will be in the end” makes me think of the word destiny for him and the Moody Blues. They were meant for this 50 year plus career in beautiful hit music.
Justin Haywood write this song when he wasaout twenty. So to listen to him sing this song thirty years later and hear the emotion and passion he put into this song is a real treat. It reminded me of listening to Joni Mitchell’s latest version of Both Sides Now.
I enjoyed seeing the Moodies in concert for many years. The last concert I saw them in Atlanta was the last tour that they would all be performing together. Ray (flurist) retired due to health issues and has passed on. So has Graeme Edge (drummer). Justin Hayward (lead vocalist) & John Lodge (in black shirt who sings falsetto) both tour separately now, which is sad. Justin wrote this when he was 19 years old. They were (besides ELO) the first rock 'n roll band to perform with an orchestra. Most concerts I saw them they had one. RIP Ray & Graeme xx
Many misunderstood the lyrics due to the homophone nights vs knights. The song lyrics are a composite of two of Justin Hayward's love relationships, the first a short affair where the girl bought him some white satin sheets and more a devastating breakup that was contemporary to writing the song. The use of Mellotron changed the entire direction of the band that were on the verge of losing their recording contract prior to Days of Future Past album release.
I saw the Moody Blues live at UC Irvine in 1994 - the Kingdom Tour. Every song sounded exactly like the album version. One of the best concerts I ever saw.
Justin Hayward has one of the purest voices the pop world has ever produced. And he's still going strong today! Check out Forever Autumn, sung by him, from the great War of the Worlds musical.
Major goosebumps...the song is like a time capsule for me...Loved it then and love it now:) THANKS FOR GETTING BACK TO THE MUSIC:) You do a fantastic job Jamel
This is special and so glad you've reacted to it. There's nothing being created as this and it's doubtful anybody has the talent or skill...Although, if anybody did the powers that be would squash it and refuse to record. This is my favorite band of all time; the unique blend of Classical, Rock and a bit of Folk really appeals to my eclectic tastes. Can't count the times to have seen them with Symphonies, Orchestras and Philharmonics around the country. The first time I saw them 'In Concert' they once opened with the tinkley music preceding 'Late Lament' recited in the Bassy-Baritone voice of Mike Pinder and he had to stop when the crowd went totally insane and nobody could hear anything. The Poem follows 'Nights in White Satin' on the Album; so this was different to place it in front of the song. After about 5 minutes of cacophonous ecstasy in having the privilege to see the band 'Live'; Pinder began again and you could hear a pin drop in the venue. It was one of the most outstanding openings of any band ever seen. SMASHING!!! While my Mom introduced we kids to all kinds of music even before birth; I introduced this to her and as a Classical Pianist she was enraptured... STILL ADORE THE MOODY BLUES. Justin Hayward was trully genius when creating this.
..."Class of 76"...I always considered this their best song and was either before or after Hotel California on my turntable...thank you for letting it play thru without interruption...
The music score take this great song to a new level . The horn , violins and the flute adds a bit of magic . I like both versions . Not all songs can be changed for the better when the real deal is it .
I love how they adapted this to a full orchestra. On of my favorite Moody Blues songs. I was blessed to grow up on some of the best music ever produced.
Thanks for sharing. I probably wore out a stylus or two listening to the Moody Blues. You see ... I was a young teenager when my neighbor's dad introduced me to the Moody Blues and it instantly changed my taste and appreciation for the music quality of rock music.
Saw them 1st row in between John lodge and Justin Hayward. Couldn’t decided who I loved more😂. Got their autographs that night. Oh what an awesome memory.
I saw the Moody’s 🍄 back in 1979. No orchestra on that tour, but they gave my friends and I a beautiful show. Good times indeed. Thanx for sharing this JakaJ. Crazy that I’m prob 30 years older than they were then. Time flies, make the most of it!
