So I’ve had the Moog Muse a few days and just getting into it and thought while I’m trying to learn the Synth, I’d Live Stream it too :)
I've also set up a Facebook group for it - / moogmuse

I read some gossip about the sound… but there is something unique to it it seems. Like I hear an orchestra kind tibre. It reminds me of the Memorymoog… more organic than the One. But it tends to be agressive and brassy opposed to smooth and silky (like anything OB). I love it! They made a synth for everyone when it come to controles, but they choose characters above avarage in it’s sound department.
@BullyMaguire4ever

It’s only aggressive if the oscillator levels and overload are pushed up. It can be smooth.

I honestly have to find out… but I guess you are right. That being said. An Ob6 is very silky… I. don’t expect that kind of smooth. But Still. I have a prophet 12… and I remember a lot of complaints about that one too, which is one of my favorite synths.

Good to see you back on screen! With regards to the Muse: Just by the looks alone is already killer! Where would you put this - in terms of audio quality and ease of use - if you compare it to your other excellent poly-synths? We would say P6 in terms of quality and ease of use via its excellent UI, but with more options at its core (oscs/modulation).

It's a great Synth and if I had to choose, i'd go for the Muse over the P6. The P6 has a slightly sweeter top end and has multiple FX, yet Modulation is a bit lacking and only a single Global LFO. You can sacrifice Oscillator 2 and turn it into a per voice LFO, that just leaves you with Osc 1 and the Sub and Octave down. The Trigon 6 has a better configuration as you can use Osc 3 has a per voice LFO, leaving you 2 main Osc. The Mus has got lots of Modulation, much of which is taken from the Moog One, plus it has a heavier low end and 5 Octaves, so the Muse would be my choice.

I think the "diffuse time" is effectively the reverberation time. to reduce the pre-delay you will need to turn the delay time knob right down. The diffuse effect is applied to the delay repeats.

This sounds better than Moog One to me IMHO! I hated the Moog One it it didnt sound vintage at all.. this sounds warmer and more vintage than Moog One. How it compare in tone to Prophet 5/10 the prophet is the warmest poly out! maybe the mono output. I just got the Muse still in box but curious Jamie would you take the sound of muse over the P-10? I think it sounds better than the P6 already... your thoughts? you need to hurry and make patches! I bought your moog one and prophet sounds they were the best. your pads are so insane!!
@GEOSynths
@GEOSynths 26 дней назад
Yeah, The Moog One is not to everybody's taste, I get that. I love it, but it's not a Poly Minimoog, no, but it can do Classics quite well. I think the Muse is a bit more suited to harder hitting Sounds though, especially which use Audio Rate Modulation. I think I would take the Muse of the Prophet 10, not for the sound, but the Modulation aspects. They both sound great, but are different obviously. Ordinarily i'm not too keen on mono out Synths, but the Patch 111 is just a delight to play and it's a breeze to Program the P10.

At 14:20 you make a comment about how some poly synths are voiced differently than a mono so that all the oscillators can go through the mixer and filter together better without creating so much mud and whatnot. Poly synths are not built this way, though if they were I could see the notion making sense from an audio mixing perspective. The definition of a poly synth requires that each voice have its own independent oscillators, mixer, and filters. This is necessary because if they shared lets say a filter for example and the patch has a slow rising filter envelope, if you were to be holding one note and played another you would hear the first get choked by the filter and then slowly released again. Depending on the patch, the control you have over individual oscillators, and what you play, you could potentially fake polyphony, but most would still call this a form of para-phony, not polyphony. A polysynth can hit one note, have that voice do its own thing with its amp and filters, hit another, and have that second one's envelopes also independently evolve. This is only possible if each individual voice has its own amplifier and filter. Each voice can be as fat as it wants to start and then be tamed by some high passing, low passing, etc. Of course, if you play 8 FAT voices all at once, all that does have to share a single stereo output pair, but that's what the low cut is for, that's global and sits just before the delay input in the signal chain.

Filter cutoff way down, 47:38 sounds lovely and really deep, like an old Prophet-5 but bring the higher ends in and it seems 🤕🤯😳 kind of a bit headachey to me. Still, it's probably going to be a Sequential Trigon destroyer at this price point. It would be great to hear an A/B comparison on those two.

You were the one who convinced me that the Moog One is a great synth after all the naysaying. However, this time around, you are convincing me that the Muse is not the synth for me. Something about the tone just screams bland and characterless, even with your magic touch. I think with synths like the Prophet 10, OBX8, and 3rd Wave on the market, this is an easy skip in terms of sound. The mod matrix and sequencer are very cool, but without a good core sound it is essentially useless to me

That's a fair point, you're not going to like everything, me neither. As I've worked on many Synths over the Years, my taste has changed and there's things I look for, a different nuance to a sound, different character and ways of doing it. Right now, i'm just exploring it and the sounds i've made so far won't be released. Right now, i'm really loving the Sound of it, hopefully you'll give it another chance at some point. :)
@klstay
@klstay Месяц назад
This is kind of where my mind currently is on it. I always let new synths "cool down" before even considering writing a check for one in any case. Workflow on 3rd Wave looks to be outclassed by it, but obviously it covers a lot more territory. If you already have a synth/controller with a keybed you like the desktop model or this for the same price could be a tough decision. Prophet 10 is a different animal altogether. Focused features/soundspace (reflecting the time it was designed) with a fantastic WYSIWYG knob/function interface. Limitations to me are acceptable given the sound coming out and limitations can be a good thing. If it goes on sale again for some that could be another tough choice.

Great Video🔊✨ always enjoy your honesty, but dear Lord, I could hear the exhaustion in you when you had to play Blade Runner. Dear moog and any other company listening please no more Beverly Hills cop soundtrack, no more Blade Runner no more Van Halen presets OK. I don’t need to hear any more versions of the originals for the rest of my life. Do I look like I’m gonna watch gremlins part 2 ever again? I don’t wish that on anyone. The whole reason I pay this much money is for the ability to create unique sounds. Anyways, it’s my sixth day sitting with the Muse and I got to say it’s a love-hate relationship. I believe the presets can be confusing for people because some can sound great and others make it sound very digital and not good. I mean my soft tube model 84 and Hans Zimmer legends synapse, etc. should not be sounding better. I feel the diffusion delay can sound absolutely gorgeous but a lot of things hide behind it and I really wish they would’ve included the analog delay or spring reverb. I also like to imagine that someone over at moog was like “ hey, don’t we make kick ass Mooger Fooger pedals? And another employee saying yeah, but we can’t start putting shit like that in there it would be way too kick ass. I find that you really have to work to get beautiful, balanced, and unique original sounds unlike my OBX8 where it just sounds beautifully balanced, and the clarity and separation is gorgeous and not mushy or muffled or harsh. but when you get to that point of a great patch, it sure sounds amazing. Hoping they will give the ability to modulate the diffusion delay in an update. There is a lot to love, but my only gripe is the screen I cannot stand it.
