Noir I love your videos! Im a 17 year old in Delaware and while I cant get any of this kind of gear I love how you make me feel like Im exploring the instruments myself. Thank you for being such a great creator for such a niche community.
There is a natural progression in the world of art and creativity that I think is really helpful. I, too, couldn’t afford any of this stuff at age 17, but that forced me to be inventive with cheap and readily available stuff. In fact, my most inventive years were the 3 or 4 years I couldn’t modify my setup due to $
@@rhythmdroid great point, I think it's a tough thing I struggle with. I have more gear than ever, but I had a much more success finishing music projects when it was just me and a laptop...I'm not giving back my Quantum though ;)
Absolutely my pleasure! I want to say thank you for ALL the detailed content over the years, probably a super random place to tell you this, but I for one know how helpful it is for me and so many others. 😊
@@NoirEtBlancVie likewise thank you too for sharing your perspective and music - and hopefully you releasing a video today doesn’t mean there’s no Halloween special this year!
Of course we need more synth content. I mean, there are plenty of channels out there shilling the latest gear. But outside of AudioPilz and his Bad Gear series, there aren't many folks making videos about existing stuff. Also, since you buy your own equipment, I tend to trust your reviews more than anyone else's. Finally, you are literally the only one in the synth RU-vidr community who is consistently funny. I still put on your MicroFreak review around Halloween, and I don't even own a MF anymore
@@NoirEtBlancVie No no no, you are a great youtuber! You may not be the qickest but i appreciate that you don't spam us with "content". Your videos are quite tastefull and well "tempered" so to speak.
I remember seeing those Eurorack modules at Moogfest 2016 - I can’t remember listening to them though at all! Maybe because what I remember from that room was having a random chat with one of the technicians building the Minimoogs and us going from a cold “how ya doin” as he was building, to discussing how we are all just electricity flowing like electricity in a musical circuit, then ending with a hug. And later, seeing Bernie Worrell come in a wheelchair and have a quick play on the minimoog - I’ve thought subsequently (not 37) that this was possibly the last moment he ever played a Moog in public as he died only two or three months later. Moog/Moogfest was/is an amazing place.
Hey!!! OH noooooooo, I was hoping you'd say you heard them...so what they actually are or soundalike remain a mystery... I kinda think they're somewhat generic, but I'd like to actually go to Moogfest in the future, at least I'll be able to build one of these super rare instruments :)
@@NoirEtBlancVie love the subharmonicon and i would love to break out the second oscilator trio to its own signal path and a filter module like on the matriarch would be perfect
With the Buchla modules getting officially sanctioned eurorack versions, it would be neat to see the same with a line of Moog ones. Then east/west can become one by way of europe.
@@dmoracze I mean I would, but I’m kinda sad Moog didn’t let me check them out early…I guess this is my punishment for telling people not to buy their $5000 vocoder 😂
I've got the 500 series Ladder and Delay. I concur, they are awesome. My favorite thing to do is run the delay in stereo with my 104m delay. Really cool ping pong stuff. Great video. I'd love to see the Spectravox come out too!
I do not like moog's website. It's flashy, poorly laid out and almost completely useless. It's no knock against moog machines though. I've noticed a lot of websites are getting that "slick and shallow" treatment these days. The kind of thing that's meant to catch someone's eye while wasting time on a phone, not so much an in depth website. When searching for moog info or machines, I found a generic web search engine a lot more useful than moog's own website, so I'll leave it at that. :/
That would be cool, plus, there are only so many Great Synth Mysteries! I should have titles this video Great Synth Mystery, but then I would be actually doing what RU-vid wants, and F the algorithm 🤭
Hey - didn't know about most of this stuff. You made the video before Moog 're-released' the Moogafoogas-whatever. In software!!! This follows a eurorack case and the Werkstat update - the Mavis. What the heck is Moog doing? Pussyfooting about hardware while turning into a software company like Roland...
I mean, Moog knows where the money is at, plus…these Plugins somewhat existed before for Avid only I believe…I’d like to see new pedals, but I think that’s a new go…just one hardware time based effect would be cool 🤤
the Model 10 and Model 15 really piss me off. The hand wired aspect of them makes them so expensive they are out of reach of most of us. In the current state of the art you can replicate just about any circuit with SMT. Which would not only sound the same, but be cheaper, more robust, and reliable. Downside is repairability. And the purist nerds that want a hand wired synth like their grandfather played. I love moog, but I really wish they would make either Eurorack or a 'working class' Model 15.
Hey, please make however many videos you feel inspired to make. I share your love for synths, and your perspective is always insightful and entertaining. Even if this is more of a "side gig" or hobby, you have a decent-sized audience and name recognition in the creator community, so I hope you will keep doing these. I'd love to know what your day job is and how much you enjoy it.
I almost never comment on RU-vid but I was really happy to stop in today and see new content here. I'll take all the synth reviews I can get and that goes doubly for yours. Cheers!
This is why I subscribed to your channel. So much detailed information about Moog products that I've never heard of. I agree, Moog should consider releasing the Spectravox Vocoder in the DFAM form factor. It would be the perfect addition to any 32HP 4 tier Moog rack.
Thanks Sean, I feel like when I make videos like this I know it’s not gonna be a great performer, but it’s what makes me prouder, so I’m glad you’re here for these… The Spectravox is my #1 ask, it’s mostly due to the cost of their full vocoder costing $5000, they could at least throw us a bone 😝
My bank account is officially empty! lol 😁 If the financial crisis apparently happening in the world gets bad enough I think I'll finally have a chance to re-buy lots of stuff I sold in the last recession...
I''ve recently not been too compelled by Moog (after the incident, lol...) but I gotta be honest, the 500 modules really seem like special pieces with broad use cases, and it's absolutely a shame they're not around now. Great video!
What ever do you mean, what has Moog ever done to anyone recently 😏 If I ever get a chance to get a delay in 500 series for a reasonable price I’ll scream…won’t happen In my lifetime 😑
@@NoirEtBlancVieI might literally use that ladder filter in 90% of everything I write, like that's exactly what I've wanted to have bolder filter options I can control digitally. Sigh...
Great video as always. Do we need more synth content? Well yeah, I‘d love to see more about your thought process when writing or recording music regarding synth. When do do reach for which kind of synth you own. Do you replace or change a part, even if the track was based around a synth line for example. You do mix other nonsynthesized instruments a lot with synth too. In that context: can a handplayed bassline on a synth ever be as cool as a well played bassline? Okay sorry - of course - but do you get where I I‘m at? 😅 those kinds of things I‘d love to see from you. But I‘ll watch everything else too. Thanks a lot!
Whoa, this is a lot of stuff, I don't even think I'm good at showing people my process since to me it feel ultra basic...maybe I'd do it on my second channel though...The main, I'm really (if you can't tell) pushing to make it purely either minidoc or story focused content... Since lord knows I can't be doing new synth stuff, it's a lot of gear to learn and I am so lazy hehe
@@noiretblancvie-afterhours I def don’t want to bother you in any way! I think it boils down to the fact that I like to watch you do stuff and talk about it. I totally forgot about your second channel though. I think I caught a livestream once in the middle of the night - from Germany‘s perspective that is. I just was spitballing your way, l guess. Have a nice day 😊
I've tried it at Guitar Center, the thing is, I have so many synthesizers, I've never need another to make the songs I actually write...If I was ever buying another synthesizer it would probably be the Moog One.
@@noiretblancvie-afterhoursWoah, Moog One, that’s pretty swanky. Not the OB-X8? The OB-X8 sounds bloody rich, but maybe you already have something along that line. I’m personally very fond of the Sequential stuff. Got a Take 5 and very happy with it. But the Matriarch is so crazy, beautiful sounds, very vintage sounding, kind of a rabbit hole. It’s an odd beast. I don’t know too much about the Moog One though. It’s so pricey I’ve never even bothered to look at it.
Bro we could all benefit from quality synth content like this!!! I really wanted the original design subharmonicon I liked the layout much more and spectravox is amazing I'm sure if they made 500-1000 of em they'd go without a doubt
Thank you! Yeah, I would love to know what the reason is behind making some Moogfest products widely available and keep some so limited. I enjoyed making this video, but it's a busy gear week...my story type videos aren't gonna do well lol
It's crazy when you think how much we want this awesome gear, then we see what it's worth and I'll it, just to regret in and buy it back at a higher price....story of my life lol
@@PORRFNK no no, I honestly didn’t do my usual double checking of sound…it’s not horrible, but I should have checked on headphones myself before recording which I didn’t do this time. So the sound is just so-so.
