I just traded 2 synths two of my nicest pedals and a drum machine for a prophet 6.... My initial reaction. The overall tone is so good. Warm and lush. Best overall tone of any synth ive played .. the Moog sub 25 is close, but monophonic. So different league. However. I really miss the everything can modulate flexibility of the DSI era gear. .... The envelope is not as responsive as I'd like And where's my Curtis filter?... I'm pretty disappointed in the filter. I'm more of a knob turner than a keyboardist... I think I actually prefer the MophoX4 or Tetra... The interface on the 6 should be amazing. But the knobs are just not that playable.. even the LFO has pretty limited range... I wish someone wanted to trade their rev-2 instead. That said it does sound amazing. The pan control is a nice touch... Maybe it will grow on me.

I have TWO of these: 61 keys and desktop. Without any doubt, when all features are considered, the TI and TI2 are the most complete hardware synths in the history of synthesizers. It's not hyperbole. No other polyphonic synthesizer has attempted to even come close to the 16 part multi-timbrality that the TI offers. Never mind the rest of the features, and possibilities, which are boundless.
I respect the passion you must have had to max out credit cards to get the synth. But unless you needed it to perform on stage with, were plugins not good enough?
Nice history…very cool of Yamaha and Roland. Cool how Dave A Tom got to together. Btw never max out your card unless you can pay it off the same month unless it’s is a dire emergency. (that’s a message for the Kids) I make all my unwise purchases with debit card and only if I have 10k left in emergency fund. Last examples….iPad pro m4/iphone15 pro max at Apple Store impulse…3K headphones and dac/amp…I said no to ob8 but may pull trigger on teo 5.
Interestingly, I have been looking at Modular for the same reasons: I have no interest in making music with it, just want a nice/futuristic piece of decorative and blinking furniture.
Oh I never forget when I purchased the Virus TI in 2005. I'm a dance music producer since 2003, and when I discovered in the beginning that a LOT of dance music was created with the Virus synths (especially the B / C in that time) I wanted it so badly. Then in 2005 the TI came and I went to the shop (Yes kids, in that time you actually had physical shops where u needed to go to). And there it was, beautiful Virus TI. Red and White LED's beautifully flashing. I think I played it four at least an hour. I purchased it right away. Since then, I used it in almost every production. It's so inspiring. I sold all my hardware synths, since I use mostly softsynths nowadays. The sound of sofsynths is great. But my Virus TI, it will never, ever go away. The sound is unmatched. I understand why Kemper never released a new version. Why should he? I think he realised he created the ultimate synth, how can you improve this? I only hoped he released a softsynth version of this, since computers nowadays have more then enough power. But others released the DSP emulation of the software, which I also use now and it sounds as great as the Virus TI itself. So, however I use the software emulation out of convenience, my Virus TI hardware will never be sold when I'm alive :).
Oh, I did not know until watching your video that the Virus TI is discontinued. I bought it right when it came out, but due to my job I could not play it for the last 8 years or so. Are old firmware and plugin software updates still downloadable somewhere?
My only gripe with mine (Subsequent 37) is the rubber coating on the mod and pitch bend wheels. They have gone sticky like a lot of rubber products do even though Ive never cleaned it with anything that would cause it go sticky. I managed to fix the issue using black butyl rubber tape (Self amalgamting tape) that when pulled tight over the wheel sticks really well. Not the best solution but at least they arent sticky anymore which was very distracting. Ive heard others have had this issue too.
two machines I'm super interested in. Generative and experimentation heaven it seems ? (I'm a newbe in electronic music and, coming from 'instrumental' music (??) it feels there is a lot of music to discover in these 2 boxes...plus the smooth sound and solid basses from Moog...) thank you for sharing !
Really nice video. I had a CS 2.0 for a while...funny I have an Uno Synth now which I like a lot. But, I find myself missing a few of those CRAFTsynth sounds.
I have the synth. And it sounds fantastic. But, like you, I absolutly HATE the "keys"😢. So much, I haven't used it for more than a year and a half... Such a Shane. If it only had regular keys 🙏🙏😊.
This thing is often on sale for $100 - only Volca Bass and keys are in the same league at that price, but the Uno is more versatile. I love all 3 personally!
i wrote for the animation/video industry years ago. I did a review of a product and well, there were several problems with the software, some of which were inexcusable. i got paid and they ended up not publishing it
