Totally makes sense, Moog is a multi-talented artist, shed has that focus. Marty's a wrencher straight up, hence the lift. The ideal differences between them is what makes the show.

Gotta agree with this. As a kid, I was raised by a man who was a maker of all things, but I always seemed to gravitate toward wrenching. Now that I'm older, I wish I had spent more time getting versed in the other disciplines. Moog and Marty play off each other well, and each has a specific skill set that compliments the other.

Friend, using tools that have been passed down is a special feeling. I still use my great-grandfather's compass and other architectural design tools from the '20's any time that I'm putting a plan onto paper. It's not only satisfying, the tools are excellent quality and very useful! "They don't make 'em like they used to" is true. Cheers, and props to your grandpa, much love.

+1 for this. I have this heel/Jimmy bar from my opa that's machined perfectly for using as a chisel for stuck inner bearing races that doubles as a seal remover. Works even better than the genuine/oe tools. Brings a smile to my face every time I grab it from my tool box.

That bit about your grandfather's chisels was great. Those things will last forever. My dad gave me a tool box he bought the year I was born. When I bought my house, he gave me it. I'll keep it forever. It makes me want to fix and make because I want to use his toolbox.

@@flubba86 What about a loft/attic conversion? That can be done cheaply if it's not gonna be a bedroom. Obviously you're not gonna get a car in it, but you can still make yourself a mad workshop for other things depending upon your needs :)

" A loan book" my mate was always happy to loan tools and gear, he kept that information in a book with the name of the borrower, the gear, the date. Often you would get a call asking if you had finished with such and such as someone else wanted to borrow it. The best bit was the you could go through the book see you name and check what gear of his you had on a long term projects.

Awesome shed tour, Moog. I give you 13 points out of a possible 10 for first-order accessibility - having everything you need frequently visible and available to your outreached hand. I try to do that with the Fat Cave here - with varying degrees of success. Well done. Love your work. It's be great if you could mount the drill and driver so they were good to go, finger on the trigger, one-handed, instead of inverting and rotating (because your other hand would be holding the job in place on the 'favourite tool', obviously).

Love the shed tour. I particularly like having coiled extension cords at different points around the shed, plugged in and ready to go. I want to be set up and working as quickly and easily as possible.

same. for some reason all electric tools with cable are usually a lil to short so u need to get a extension anyways.

I have a big self coiling extension cord mounted to the ceiling, as well as an air hose that coils up in the same way. Since my shop is in an older building there aren't many outlets. The central coiled cord makes it super easy to just reach up and grab the end, then pull out enough cord to wherever it's needed.

Hearing Jimmy Rabbit brought back so many good memories, a pleasant surprise! What a great shed. Being into carpentry, you'd love my late grandfather's woodwork workshop. He was extremely fussy and intricate with his carpentry, an amazing man, I wish I had more time with him. He had tools (which we still have) of the same era of your grandfather's. They are a special thing to have!

I have my grandfathers files, brace and lump hammer. He used to work for Guinness in James' Gate, Dublin as a foreman. The hammer works perfectly but the files are dull from age, but you'd never throw it away.

A battery powered label maker improved my workshop life in a big way. Printing up a label and sticking it on a drawer handle is super quick and easy, and it's easy to peel it off and print a new one if things change. The best thing is that if one of my kids or my partner needs to use a tool, they can find it without my help, but most importantly they can return it to where it goes. Worth every penny.

Moog the part of the vid about your top 3 best shed items Really hit a memory mate. My wife's Grandad always used his old chisels, sharpening them on a wet stone. He used Co-op (UK) milk crates as his work benches and did all he could for his granddaughter when we bought our first house. We miss him and Thelma. Thank you for that part of your vid. Thanks to him I fix and recycle all that I own.

Im in the process of building my workshop its not massive at 14ft by 11ft but its helping me free up garage space so i can finally finish my dads and my mg build, after he died i got motivated to sort my life out get healthy and get happy and part of the things helping me is you guys at mightycarmods, your videos help me chill and inspire me to be better and these workshop tours are perfect and have definitely helped me plan my workbench area ❤ i feel that I'm nearly there getting on with my dads and I dream of the perfect classic car. thankyou marty and moog you keep being you because what you do is important to many of us and I wouldn't want you guys any other way

Hello Moog and Martin, I am from Russia, I have been watching your show for about 6 years, but due to difficulties with the English language, I watch a translation from BMI Russian, I am very grateful to you for the release of such a Maaaad show, and about the garage, we have a lot in Russia who installs a magnetic tape on the wall in their garages, on which they hang a tool that they often use, is a very convenient thing, we also have a lot of places where the ceiling space is used to store metal pipes or long objects (something like a mesh is made on the ceiling where the metal is laid ). Moog I have some hand tools I inherited from my Dad who was a master cabinet maker, there is something special when I use his tools, a connection I suppose, they flood back memories and always bring a smile to my face.. Like your Granddads tools they are put away sharp and oiled to honour him and his shaping the person I am..

You get it Moog. I have a bit of maker shed as well and have tools from my late father in law and my dad who can no longer use them. You really get a real sense of connection when you use them. Even if I aren’t using them they are on display and you get the sense they are there when you’re in the shop. Pretty special.

I don't normally comment on videos, but Moogs shed and the story of his grandad's tools and spice rack was a good one. I lost my dad to cancer earlier this year, and being his only surviving son, I ended up with with his old tools. the tools he taught me to use as a kid. Very very good memories, and fun. Even though dad in his 90's knew he was terminal, he still went to his shed and made a home gym so he could be mobile as long as he could be. So for a shed set out idea, I would say to all the mums and dads, make the shed kid friendly. Get a cabinet for kids to put their tools in, get kids PPE gear. Teach them how to keep their tools in good working condition. Most of all do projects with them, maybe a good first project is to build a kids work bench.

i can relate in a way to your grandfathers tools. my dad gave me all the tools he had when he moved house, which includes mostly stuff hes had for quite a few years, and some of pops tools from when they were in construction and dad worked for him. dont really rememeber my pop too much, but through all the stories from my dad and the same, we couldnt afford to buy things new or replace them, im stoked to have his tools 2 generations later. and probably the only items im going to inherit from my dad, so its extra special!

The part where you talked about your grandad realy hit home moog, when you talked about having his tools and working on a project with them you felt the emotion😢. I have an old little oiling can my granda used for lubing up various thing and i have a full set of old spanners in the original leather rool up case and mallets hammers ect and try to use ghem regularly and just gives me goosebumps when i do🙌✌🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Gotta love it. I started my Ryobi tool kit simply because I saw you guys using the Ryobi 3/8 ratchet with oscillating head. Now I'm almost 20 tools deep in the Ryobi one+ world. Thanks Moog for the tour. Yes we got to see your space but so many thoughtful tips, tricks and ideas. Really appreciate it during lockdown. Favourite bit was the chisels. We’ve all got a special tool(s) that was given to us and every time you use them there is a very special feeling. Keep up the awesome work.

Drywall is actually a brand name in the US that caught in if I remember correctly, my dad called it gypsum board, and occasionally that was asked of me when I worked at home depot

'Gyprock' is a brand name here too. The generic term here is plasterboard

Sheetrock was the brand of drywall. Drywall has lots of names, but the reason it’s called drywall is it’s dry compared lath and plaster that I have in my house.

Love this, Moog, thanks for sharing your shed. It's called "dry wall" in the states because walls used to be made with wood slats covered in cement and plaster, which was usually mixed in a wheelbarrow and thrown on, first the thicker cement and then a thin layer of plaster that was sanded down. This was a very "wet wall" process, so when the gypsum boards started to get used in the late 50's contractors would say things like "are you using wet wall or dry wall," so the term stuck. My grandfather was a builder as well, my dad still has all of his tools, some dating back to the 30's I love using them when I get a chance too.

Love it, one of my favourite episodes for a while! Over time I have turned my garage into a wood shop, making one off furniture pieces. I guess my advise from my own experience is always be patient and if you’re stumped by a job, take a moment and come back to it. A few times I have been ready to give up on a failed project only to have a new idea of how to complete it after a break and end up with it just how I wanted.

Nice shed. Best tip I can give us that vintage saws can be picked up cheap are really easy to refurbish. Like working with granddad's chisels, using saws that are 100-200 years old is incredibly satisfying and you're working with tools that will go onto your grandkids.... Now I'm off to pinch a milk crate they can inherit too.

I am a huge fan of milk crates also! Ive rebuilt a transmission on milk crates, used them as step ladders, and also for painting stands. I’ve nearly finished my dream shed at home, and have definitely utilised many milk crates. Also agree with your comments about getting back to making things and fixing things, instead of just going out any buying something new. My therapy is working with my hands, and learning a new skill. Great video and thanks for letting us into your home sheds. Also a great fb page called “blokes and their sheds”

I second that comment about the milk crate. I have an old metal one and I use it all the time in my shop doing wraps, repairs, and performance mods. Its great to stand and sit on.

I did have a giggle at that, but they're equally logical terms when you think about it. Drywall is named for the fact that you don't have to wait for the layers of wet plaster to dry. So it's named for the difference or benefit it has over an older technology. It's basically a marketing term that just stuck. Gyprock is more of a literal term, derivative of the gypsum plaster combined with "rock" similar to sheet rock.

The story about the fan who'd been at their stall for 5 hours that you bought a bowl from and use for the keys at mcm HQ really got me. Like I'd be so stoked if something I made was used every day somewhere I see only on my screen. Also reminds me how down to earth and nice Marty and Moog are.
