Guess which parts are better? This shows the same bushing, one AC Delco, and one Moog, and how one fits and the other doesn't!

I worked at a GM dealer for a few months. I saw Delco parts made in multiple countries, for the same part number. South Korea, Indonesia, Mexico, Japan, all for the same part.

Did moog upper control arms and lower ball joints less than 3 years, 5,000 miles ago. Already replacing them. I’ve been doing ACdelco or GM genuine on my trucks now. I’ll fork over the extra coin for quality parts. Saves me time and money in the long run

Put a new Moog problem solved pitman on a Chevy 3500 chassis. Just didn't fit fully onto the steering gear shaft and was skinnier than the oem arm. Scrapped it and put a Delco oem quality arm on. Moog used to be top-notch, now a waste of time and money.

The different part numbers COULD be from a 're-boxing'. I've seen that a lot over the years. Some parts distributors gets convinced by a manufacturer to switch to their brand. They hire a few flunkies to take the original parts, cross reference (if needed), put the old in stock parts into different (new manufacturer's) boxes, and 'TA DAAA' new parts line WITH new prices. Flunkies are also sent out to the stores where close to 100% of the time (from my experience of going through this MANY times over the years) the numbers will NOT be put in any sort of order so the store employees have to sort and rearrange the shelves. Along with the 'mandatory' leaving of extra labels because the flunkies didn't bring all which were required. Thus you're left with a wonderful experience of attempting to explain to customers as to WHY 2 packages of the same part numbers don't look the same.

Rockauto is an aggregator of sellers, just like Amazon is. They scout and find parts providers then give them a selling portal to access more customers. Sometimes the high use items are directly shipped from RA, other times the seller ships to you using RA boxes. It’s like Forest Gump says about a box of chocolates.....you never know what you’re going to get.

Problem with aftermarket parts: The engineering drawing has dimensions, tolerance, material specifications, and important features. By copying a part, that information is missing. In this specific case, who do you think has the drawing and who made one from a part? Not a quality control problem if you don't have the drawing. It's a counterfeit problem.

Moog is American company and has plants all over the world ! Which Rock Auto explains but it is left to the consumer. I’ve had American made OEM parts prematurely fail and foreign parts . Mazda’s are a joke with cheap plastics made in Japan. The blower motors are almost $500 , I bought an American made blower motor made from steel with far better bearing and bushings . QC is everything.

Sooooooo tired of playing the parts game. It is ridiculous. Why is it really this hard to find an accurate, readily available, quality part from a company with good customer service that has a decent warranty?? Its hard enough to figure out where your part was made before you order it. I never know who to buy from anymore. I'm crossing my fingers with my new moog tie rod ends and ac delco UCAs and LCAs. The bushing at the knuckle has the same play that ur showing, if not worse. Haven't removed them yet but with wheel off ground u can see all the play. Was fine for almost a year then slam, slam, over every little bump and drifts while shifting. Ball joint boots are dry rotted too.

After that happened I did a little searching about them and I wasn’t at all impressed with what I found out. It’s disappointing too, because I live in Michigan, so to put a name on your product that makes people believe you’re getting high quality parts from the car capitol of the world, and you get some made in China shit, is kind of a slap in the face.

@@LESLASLESLAS Yeah I agree with the false-branding is bull-shit. Yeah I have read mixed things, maybe I just got good luck or maybe their control arms are better quality, who knows. The Control Arm set I ordered was off of Amazon, and it had all good reviews (which on Amazon doesn't mean anything). I've had issues with Moog as well, I don't think any brand is really free from failure to some level.

It matters where the parts are being made, for a number or reasons, quality of the steel being one that isn't readily apparent like fit but, the primary factor is that it matters, when they are being made, here, then there, then someplace else, then all over the place, while a bunch of management suits, chase the lowest operating costs around the various third world nations of the world. Far as I can tell, Moog doesn't make parts anymore at all. They just place orders with various third world factories, package them up in their boxes and peddle them to the end users. Made the mistake of replacing the lower control arms on my Subaru Outback with Moog assemblies, Made in China. One of the ball joints completely failed within 15k miles... Ate up a practically new tire too.

ACDelco sources from multiple suppliers, all of which are media grade or better for their Pro line and median grade or lower for their Advantage line. I have never seen an ACDelco BJ that incorporates some of Moog's patented features, for example their new minimum profile boot, and Moogs are usually greaseable while most of ACDelco's are sealed and use a plastic bushing. I'm not suggesting Moog always makes the best but they do not appear to resell for any other brand, though there are many clones, some counterfeit and some in the gray area of misrepresentation and fishy packaging.

This sounds a lot like this guy cherry picking his garbage worn steel shaft, for parts that could have fit with not a completely destroyed control arm shaft. I don't care if you can see the original machining marks, steel parts in contact with other metal parts wear out and become undersized. The AC Delco parts aren't a true press fit like they would be factory, their nominal size just seems to be better than the moog ones in this instance of an undersized shaft.
@stinkycheese804

@@JosephArata No. Nothing short of machining the part down to a smaller diameter would have achieved that surface finish, unless there was only minimal rust to remove that did not substantially change the diameter, certainly nowhere near 1mm. MOOG are garbage in my experience. I had their wheel hub failed twice (2nd was warranty replacement) within a year. MOOG are not much better than cheap no name parts on eBay.

I replaced all 4 of my wheel bearing with moog and one failed after a year. It was so loud I couldn't even hear my radio with the windows rolled up.

I hear MOOG is not that big on quality control. Heck they can't even be bothered to get the same part number on inner and outer packaging.

Probably because it wasn't really a moog bushing.

The answer to your question is... Rock Auto 😂 they are notoriously bad. Ordered two of the same water pumps for a 95 Mercedes SL.... they send me two water pumps for Mercedes S500

I use polyurethane...I got sick and tired of bushings lasting 6 months.. lifetime on tierod... bushings junk..
@stinkycheese804
@stinkycheese804 3 года назад
An OEM quality or equivalent aftermarket bushing will last as long as the original did, years longer than 6 months. Polyurethane can be an upgrade for a race car, but can also be harsh and squeaky or else a continual lubrication burden.

Moog tolerances are shocking way out from oe spec,on the sealed ball joints you cannot grease the covers hide the fact they don't even grease under the boots sufficiently so they have a terrible wear rate

That's been my experience too. In the last decade, I've had too many genuine Moog tie-rod ends that were utter junk. They moved all their manufacturing overseas and the quality control is very poor.

I bought some Mevotech parts in the past. Cheaply made chinese junk. Recently bought some more for a Mustang. They were not cheap. Came in very solid looking pieces made in USA. I guess I will order more from them.

What I've been told by GM, is that aftermarket parts are usually made slightly larger or smaller on components that have wear on them. This way after some years a shaft in this case could be a little worn or eroded away, an aftermarket part should be made slightly smaller so that the fit is tight. An OEM part would be too loose. So in this case, the Moog might be a perfect OEM but the shaft might be slightly worn.

Moog use to be very good back in the day. Now it seems there garbage. I've had some parts fail on me to over the past couple of years from moog. As of right now it's not safe at all to buy auto parts from Amazon it's to much of a gamble. Ac delco is GM.

I have spent several thousand dollars on rockauto parts in the last 5 or so years. I have used Moog and ac delco advantage and ac delco professional. Every single Moog part has been higher quality than any oem part I replaced it with or any ac delco part I have used. I do not trust anything made a delco. I have never gotten a decent part from ac delco. Every single part was cheap and wore out right away. There is no comparison between Moog and ac delco

I'll take the AC Delco Professional or Dana Spicer over Moog any day. Moog isn't the company it was a decade ago. Terrible quality control as they moved more and more manufacturing overseas.

@@karlschauff7989 I tend to agree. Like many companies, they are riding the shirttails of their former reputation more than actually producing quality parts. I've seen it time and time again over the past 10-15 years and unfortunately I don't think it's going to get any better.

@@karlschauff7989 Hardly. Moog parts have changed almost zero in the last decade besides a bj boot change because that was their primary weakness in the past, boots that didn't last as long as the rest of the BJ did. You think Moog was made in USA 10 years ago? Lol, no they have multiple factories all over the world and have for decades.

Does this dude have a personal thing about moog cause i see so many videos about how bad moog is which isn't entirely true there's a thing called returning the part and getting a replacement shit I know people who redid there whole underside in moog with no issues. Personal experiences may very. Sounds like moog is annoyed with this dude and purposely sends him broke parts.

I have no relationship to MOOG, or any auto parts company. This was only my singular experience and is not a representation of MOOG as a whole. I have other MOOG parts on other cars. That being said, every parts manufacturer that subs work out will have out of spec parts at times. I spent many years as a mechanic and saw my share of Factory FFF'd parts.
