@@KeyanCarlile Unfortunately Disney came too little too late. Projects like this are left under the "Woke" banner because companies failed to acknowledge their black female audience. Now all Tyler Perry Studios has to do is create an animation division and black people won't need Disney anymore.
It may seem minor, but my biggest fear with this show was that the series would make their own villains, as opposed to utilizing the near infinite list of z-tier marvel villains from the comics. And yeah they do change them around a bit but the series does actually use lesser known villains and I am here for it. Mad respect for that
The Beyonder is an SSSSSSSS-tier "villain" though. He started the first Marvel Crossover event called Secret Wars and is beyond powerful, thankfully he's also relatively uninterested in mortal affairs other than to observe them happening. He even let Dr. Dooms absorb him in the original Secret Wars to see how it felt.
Two of the best jokes in the series are: Episode 1: Casey asks lunella what happens if they don't defeat aftershock, to which lunella states they'll be canceled after 1 Episode, and the text box above shows some sad animators Episode 10: the beyonder interrupts the scene, pointing out that Casey is obviously about to fall into a trap, as well as gives a backstory for the villain of the week
As a Transformers fan this is a very unfortunate thing that can happen to those who develop a hyper fixation with the series during their developmental years. I’ve seen it happen to many poor young souls, I myself was only barely saved by TMNT, which made sure that I was obsessed with two shows, which lessens the developmental issues.
@@toxikvik6193 Apparently the creators went on record saying they specifically sought out Flying Bark for this show because of their work on Rise of the TMNT, so it wouldn't shock me if they purposely emulated a few of that show's stylistic choices. I feel like Rise specifically may have been forced to limit their animation during slower scenes to budget more for the action, because afaik Flying Bark's other action shows around this time (Glitch Techs and Monkie Kid) didn't really use this, and still had S tier action. In any case though, Flying Bark seems to have mastered using limited animation to their advantage, because both Moon Girl and Rise have such dynamic looking shots/art that you tend to not even notice the lack of actual movement.
I like how characters can sometimes tween out in a static pose It’s a stylistic choice that adds some comedic flair to scenes where it’s present while actively centering our focus to the characters with actual animation. Not to mention that choice is probably takes work off the back animators to put more time on the more amazing sequences
this show rocks! i’ve found myself rewatching all the episodes just to find new details and take in everything this show throws at you in a single episode. they really went above and beyond!
Bless Laurence Fishburne! This show slaps so hard! Diamond does her thang (she also placed 5th on the X Factor) Every aspect of the show independently and cohesively comes together well. The hair episode is my personal favorite because of the resonating message, but the Beyonder is a close second. Really cool but chill shows like these are so refreshing. Also Lunella probably does the books but didn't do it for the episode where the money wasn't looking so hot. ;)
That last part is what I was thinking! Her peoples probably told her they'd take over so she could "relax" or something, whole time they ain't want her to see the shop struggling if she ain't have to!
And don't forget that the Beyonder episode showed that all the Voice-Over Narration and Villian Backstory Cutaways are as diagenic as the music: it was the Beyonder talking to the audience the whole time. Why does the Beyonder get to break the forth wall? Baby, he's from beyond time and space, of COURSE he's also from beyond the fourth wall.
As a big fan of the Moon Girl comics, I was so excited to see this animated! It’s also quite a few steps up from its source material, removing some of the more confusing elements. It’s visually fantastic, the music is great, and I just adore the character designs. Like. Oh my god. They’re all so cute.
I feel like they might save any huge Marvel stuff for future seasons, kind of like how Static Shock started off in its own little world before season 2 started with Static teaming up with Batman and Robin and then he met his future self in Batman Beyond, teamed up with the Justice League to save Richie from being possessed by Brainiac, hung out with Superman to tie up a plot thread from his show, and helped Green Lantern when he was framed by Sinestro.
first of all, amazing video. this show is SO underrated and I hope it grows a long lasting fandom. second of all, PLEASE finish the owl house. as someone who was kinda annoyed by luz for all of season 1, I PROMISE you not only does she get "better" (cough she was always good now that I have perspective) but so does the plot!! I feel like anyone who enjoyed gravity falls will 100% enjoy the series. season 2 is almost entirely plot without any filler due to season 3 being shortened. I know you'll do what's right
I 100% agree. While wasn't Blown Away with the first episode I'm so glad that I was able to stick with it because this show has some of the best storytelling ever put in a Disney Channel cartoon. If you love Gravity Falls you'll love the show too obviously it's made by a lot of the same people including Dana Terrace so it does kind of have that tone. Honestly I could go on but I don't want to fill up this page all I can say is give the show another chance there's a way more to it than you think there is
@@herowither12354 S3 was actually ordered to be cut short while the team were early in S2's production. The Collector's whole existence was actually made to fit the shortened season 3. The source of all these statements is from a bunch of different tweets, panels, and videos from people involved in the show that fans have noted on Reddit.
Fr. The first episode of Owl House is very on the nose with its message, and Luz did come off as very "not like other girls." But towards the end she honestly became my second favorite character (after Hunter ofc) because of how much she grew as a character and due to the extra background we got on why she acts the way she does. (Looking back, Luz being neurodivergent explains a ton too.) The show had some growing pains, but by the end of S2 I could confidently say it surpassed Gravity Falls as my favorite serialized cartoon. Sure, Gravity Falls had a better ending, but Owl House's ending was also pretty solid, especially given how they were screwed over by Disney. The unashamed LGBT rep is the icing on the cake.
I love how this show is straight up a calculated art project. Always managing to make good use of its shortcomings and making it into a full on style! And of course saving the budget for TEH FIGHT SCENES! Also I LOVEEEEE that the tracks in this show is actually memorable for a cartoon, I love when western cartoons make me invested in the songs and tracks enough to search for the Spotify.
@@dylansharp8471 I think she is annoying. I dislike how she runs into things without thinking. I dislike how the character breaks rules and frequently gets away with it. This feels rrelevant to Moon Girl.
‘Good Night Moon Girl’ (which was supposed to air on Saturday, and is a part of the batch dropping on Disney+ tomorrow) is EASILY the best body swap episode of a show I’ve seen since Carpet Diem.
This video genuinely convinced me to watch the first episode on RU-vid, and then buy a subscription to watch the rest of the season. 10/10 would absolutely recommend making spontaneous decisions based on a funny video
I like the choice to have this be it's own thing (Like, for REAL, this time), rather than ANOTHER MCU project. On top of that, the WAY this is animated, compared to Marvel's stuff REALLY helps it! (Like you already mentioned!)
I like the show so far. The stories are on the more standard side (done well, gotta start small after all) so I'm not as in love with it so far as I'm waiting for it to really build up and get great, it's in that "solid but growing " era at the moment. It has potential to be pretty great with the strong visuals, location and characters. Too early to jump on the "amazing" train but I am keeping an eye on it. The visuals really are fantastic. The bits for commercials remind me more of Toonami bumpers.
I was SO on board with this show when they dropped the opening song... I had that song on repeat for a long time! Its so catchy. Loving the show and it's awesome. The animation, choreography, voice acting, music, art style, jokes, characters, everything just works. I even forget that it's a marvel show because it is that good!
As a big fan of Marvel extended media (including the MCU), Moon Girl surprised me in how fantastic it is in terms of standing itself apart from the MCU. I feel that whenever they do an animated Marvel series they use the MCU films as the source of inspiration, often leading to mixed results. Moon Girl is just its own entity that even if it references other Marvel characters and stories it focuses on its own groove and presence rather than be something adjacent to the MCU and I wish other Marvel shows moving forward take a cue. Also I KNEW the show's style reminded me to "Rise of the TMNT"; Lunella looks almost like April O'Neil in that series! Fantastic show that I PRAY Marvel fans don't sleep on... ESPECIALLY after ranting on five hour videos saying how superhero media has grown stale.
Great video! It's extremely nice to see people talking about this show. Re:TOH I... Think I remember the "Luz doesn't fit in" thing getting a lot less prominent after the first few episodes as she starts to? (The thing with the wizard knocking the chosen one mentality out of her system, making friends with other kids, that sort of thing). Like, I can't speak to whether or not that's enough, but it feels like a note worth making if you ever feel like trying to watch it again for whatever reason.
I adore EVERYTHING about this show! The characters, the concepts, the animation style, the soundtrack, everything just comes together like a beautiful work of art❤
YES!!! Thank you for this video!!! Its goes to so many point as to why I love MGADD and more!!! I've been loving this show so much since it came out!! I've already rewatched the current 6 episodes at least 3 times with different dubs!! Its so good and I really hope more people give it a chance!!!
I just realised I never noticed that the characters just slide around the screen a lot it looks so organic and makes so much sense with the show that i just doesn't click like i think it would
What is going on?! Animation is killing it today! Puss in Boots, Moon Girl, and even Hi Fi Rush (Which I know is a video game with cutscenes but the animation in that is so good might as well be its own show.) all are taking the medium to a whole new level. Edit: Just want to add now there's TMNT Mutant Mayhem. WHAT?!
It's weird, ever since Ultimate Spider-Man, Marvel animated shows have been in a steady decline, while the MCU was being praised, and now the MCU is in trouble and Moon Girl is possibly the spark that'll bring Marvel animated shows back to their high quality.
The second batch of episodes that released are really good as well, they also definitely do good to expanding the supporting cast like how devil, the mom, the dad, and the grandma all get their own episodes
One thing you forgot: The kid the symbiote possesed was voiced by Josh Keaton AKA The fucking Spectacular Spider-Man! That's no coincidence. No way it was.
In terms of Lunella's grandmother revealing she knows her secret, I imagine it happening the same way Virgil Hawkins/Static's dad came to learn HIS secret. By which, I imagine her saying something like "maybe...maybe in the back of my mind, I always knew"
I absolutely agree with this! I do think comparing it with Hamster & Gretel might be a bit of an apples-to-oranges situation considering how H&G is a comedy-show first while Moon Girl is an action adventure show first. On that note, H&G has gotten a lot better since its first few episodes. Another interesting cartoon I'd reccomend checking out would have to be Netflix's Centaurworld. It's pretty short (2 seasons) and I really enjoyed it. Like Moon Girl, it also is a msucial with songs that play during important moments (usually 2-3 songs per episode). It also has really good animation (interesting fact: the human world and Centaurworld were animated by different studios). I'm honestly not sure how to describe it because it definitely has a lot of purposefully over-the-top comedy, but also has a pretty serious story that the show takes seriously (Centaurowrld gets really dark sometimes).
My favorite little detail of this show is the use of marvel characters. Hell graviton was the main villain of one of the episodes. My one gripe is the fact that they didn't call what's her face lady stilt man
This video has def convinced me. And the amazing animation too ofc. And, please, never stop referencing Transformers. I may know nothing about the franchise but you always manage to make those fun facts sound even more interesting!! I'd love to watch your pilot in the future!!
I was not really planning on watching this show cuz I hadn’t seen much about it, but this video has convinced me.. even through one analysis I can feel the passion radiating through this show. I’m excited to see where this show heads, and what it could mean for the future of disney TVA (especially considering some of the recent losses there)
Also, I‘ve watched a lot of your videos, and I love your passion for Transformers and how you’re able to connect so many things back to the transformers shows. I am not super into transformers but your excitement and enthusiasm is so contagious,,
Not only is the show visually appealing with crazy animation, but it also has some banger episodes. It's a kids' show first and foremost, but when it gets serious, it gets serious. It reminds me of Spiderman in the sense that they aren't afraid to put the characters through actual dangerous situations.
When I saw the title of this video I thought it was sarcastic, but after seeing just a few minutes of it I realised that isn't true; this actually looks good! Might need to give it a watch alongside Mandalorian season 3, which is something I never thought I'd do for a Marvel project
I’ll give it a look! Thanks for making this video. Also, I strongly recommend you give The Owl House another try. Once it hits it hits hard and doesn’t slow down.
"I feel like 10 years from now everything will be Spider-Verse influenced and become oversaturated" I can never understand this. Everything that's Spider-Verse influenced has had their own unique style with just bits and pieces taken from some of what they did. That's like that gif of different cartoon characters with "bean heads" morphing into one another. They may be similar and comparable but there's always a major difference.
I just got my wisdom teeth pulled and need something to watch while I'm stuck in bed recovering. This show looks like a great choice! Thanks for the recommendation!
You need to keep watching "The Owl House." The beginning is weird (and straight up frustrating), but it gets REALLY GOOD! It's like that meme where a guy stops digging right before he reaches diamonds. I'll give "Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur" a chance if you give "The Owl House" a chance.
Devil gets a WHOLE episode to himself and it might be one of the series best too because it goes in directions you'd never expect plus Fishburne reprises his role from Ant-Man & The Wasp
As a rigged animator of 8+ years you'd be surprised how insanely fluid rigged animation can really be. It's really a matter of how willing you are to work with your medium. Carmen Sandiego was animated in Adobe Flash, for goodness sake, as was almost all of modern My Little Pony (source: they were made in the studio I worked at).
I've heard people in passing suggest watching this show, but this is the first time I'm hearing the reasons why/ hearing someone holistically talk about what makes it so great, especially with so much passion. Gonna see if I can watch it in its entirety ASAP. Also, I don't watch transformers or know much about them, but I'm gonna go watch your pilot as soon as I'm done here.
The teacher is a comic character and lunella probably does the books but he's checking over them because no matter how smart no adult is fully gonna trust a kid
I hope we get more creative shows like this from Marvel then the generic looking ‘realistic’ style they’ve been doing. More people know and remember this show then half of the other Marvel animated series in the 2010s
This might be the best thing that Marvel has released this year. The song is so good too; it really captures the energy of the show. The show is so hard to find on Disney+. After scrolling and scrolling, I had to finally do a search to find it. I wish the two would be part of the next Spider-verse chapter.
If I had a nickel for every time you said, "I will not reference Transformers again," I'd have 3 nickels! Which, admittedly, isn't a lot, but it's sad that it happened thrice.
