It's strange, Moon River came out in 1961, but Sam died in like the 20s or 30s. I'm wondering if this is just purely for artistic reasons or if it has something to do with the whole time shiz buiz going on with Virgil and the others. Or, maybe I'm just stupid and Moon River was actually written long ago.

No you're right. I've seen some suggest that since Sam died so young that this is more an imagined interpretation of the man he could have been had things gone differently.

I like to think that this is Sam as a man who has been through so much, but still finds a reason to smile. A man with an abusive past who managed to find a way rise above it all and embrace the good around him. A man who you would never guess had such a difficult upbringing with how full of love and life he is. Knowing that he is capable of loving himself and those around him no matter what he’s been told. Part of me also likes to imagine that this is Grey thinking of what it would be like if Sam was still around.
