Perfect timing to revisit this collection!! These colors are beautiful! I always must have a pastel moment in spring... and this is reminding me how difficult it is to deal with pastels. I've never had an easy one from any brand. Just the nature of the beast. The brush shape def helps a LOT imo. The rounded tip paddle helps that stark line on the cuticle that is so hard to clean up on these white heavy colors. They all go on thick & trying to clean up can look like a sharp cut through a thick layer of polish. I don't have these. As a long time mooncat fan, i know their polishes do run thick. I'll be honest, I pretty much stick to Essie for creme polishes. But Mooncat's shimmers & flakies are 🤌
that’s true pastels can definitely be tricky to formulate! most can end up chalky or thin and streaky, but i have had some great experiences with some polishes from different brands (Olive Ave & Dimension Nails) so maybe my expectations are too high 🤣 but yeah i definitely think the new brushes and maybeee a few drops of thinner would’ve improved the application of these! but omg yes Essie creams are seriously perfect!! i def would love to see them come out with some brighter pastels that could compare to this lineup 👀
This entire collection is one I wish Mooncat would pull to reformulate. The colors are soo perfect but the formulas are just awful. I’ve never had a great experience when I use them even with the new brush! Thank you for doing the hard work of doing a live application with these! ☺️🙏🏽🙌🏽
ugh that sucks that the new brush didn’t do much to improve your experience, i remember Michelle mentioning that when they first switch brushes that that pretty much solved a lot of formula complaints they had (maybe it was for diff finishes). i def see these being polishes that need more thinner as time goes on too 🤔 but thank youuu bestie 💞
Thank you especially for lining up the bottles accordingly behind the comparisons on the nail!! That is so ergonomic and makes it super clear and easy to understand ❤️
Love these retro swatching videos. Very helpful. I've picked up some of these and got a few as rewards. I use cremes for my toes with a linear holo topper. I don't have Sweet Nightmare yet and that one I really want. The new brushes do make such a difference! Insomniac has not been on my radar but after this it is. Euphoric - my bottle is already half empty! Which thinner do you prefer? I've settled on KB Shimmer.
so glad you love these! oh yeah its def great to snag these when they’re rewards, i def hope you can pick up Sweet Nightmare soon!! i was also debating getting more replacement brushes for these but honestly dont think i use them enough as regular polishes if that makes sense lol, like the old brush is fine for gradients etc. but wow for you almost fully using up Euphoric!! so far for thinners i’ve only used the Beauty Secrets from Sally Beauty and OPI’s, they basically feel the same to me but i’d love to try KB when i run out!
I love this collection and totally agree with your assessment about formula and application. I just used them last week on a mani and after a few hours I had to put a coat of Everything Taco to mask the uneven spots. LOL!
These are all creams so none are my cup of tea, however, if I had to choose the best of this collection, they would be White Rabbit and Euphoric. I will say, the skittles were so pretty! Thank you so much for for the lovely swatches as usual❤
This was the first Mooncat polish l ever got (minus the white one, as l really like Not Milky White by HT) and l was really surprises how smoothly and evenly they applied🙂 They are the perfect spring/summer colors but they elevate my mood any time of they year😄
of course! i actually compared these mooncat ones back when the HT pastels first launched too hehe but figured it would be useful to show them again 🌈🌈
I was just using White Rabbit today and thinking I should replace the brush because it was soooo stiff! Sweet Nightmare is my absolute favorite in this collection. I think of it like the pastel version of Synthetic Symphony. Thank you as always for all your comparisons!!! It really does make it a lot easier to understand the colors because obviously not everyone’s skin tone is identical, so seeing how it compares to another polish that I have or am familiar with really helps!!
Oof yeah stiff is a good word to describe the old brushes too! 🙈 hope you have an extra replacement brush for it. But omg I lovee that you think of Sweet Nightmare as a pastel Synthetic Symphony! I sadly don’t have that one, but do have MC’s Midnight Drive which I’ve heard is similar enough~ hehe. But yes of course! So glad you enjoy the comparisons and find them helpful too. It really is so funny how a color looks on screen (or even irl) and how it immediately reminds us of another shade, only to see it’s totally different lol! 😝
I’m wearing a few of these right now lol. Paradise found is my favorite, but I agree they aren’t the most opaque. I also really like the color of the minty green shade but it stains so bad I don’t usually reach for it.
ugh lovee Paradise Found! 🐬 yeah i think i would have a lot less patience/love for these if i didn’t primarily use them for nail art.. just swatching them and doing a skittle was getting me kinda frustrated lol. but oh noo i didn’t realize the green stained! that’s def super annoying too :/
Giiirrrrll! I appreciate these comparisons so much! I’ve been struggling with adding these to my MC cart, then taking them out because they’re so similar to Holo Taco. Now I know which shades I need, they really are beautiful! You make an excellent point about the swapping the brushes out. A good brush will change how I feel about a shade almost instantly! Haha Thanks for the video!
i actually compared all these to the Holo Taco pastels last year lol! i debated not showing them in this video to not repeat that but i’m glad i did haha. which ones are you ending up going with?? 🌈🌈
I got neverland and sinking feeling. Sinking feeling is exactly like cyantific from HT and Neverland is realllly close to here for the payday! I ended up destashing the mooncats because my HT had more use. The pink mooncat (euphoric?) Looks like a what do you pink dupe
@@Heather-ck3pt thanks so much… those were the shades I was most interested in. I’ll save my money for a different collection and admire these on other people.
@livinginbliss you're welcome! I got lucky and snagged them during their lunar sale so it wasnt much of a loss but I knew it would be a gamble if they were exact dupes or not
I read through the description box before watching and got excited thinking there was a dupe here for CG Here for the Candy. I hadn’t yet started watching utube nail polish videos when this collection came out so I don’t have any of these. I do have the CG and it’s the most perfect tone of pink on me. I got so many compliments when I wore it. It’s just such a pain in the butt to apply that I’ve only used it once. I want to find a dupe so bad. Anyway, thanks for the video. The colors are gorgeous but I can’t deal with a formula like that. As you said, for that price I expect better.
aw yeah sadly not a dupe, and i can see what you mean about the CG formulas also being a bit finicky to work with. have you tried adding some thinner? that might help!! 💗 but thanks so much for watching 🤗
yeahhhh i do not have the patience to deal with formulas like this so I’m gonna pass. I love mooncat’s specialty finishes though and I think you’re right about the new brushes helping. I thought for sure you would compare that tangerine shade to CG tangerine heat!
yeah just swatching them was getting me kinda frustrated lol! if i didn’t use them for nail art i don’t think i’d love them as much as i do 🤣 but yeah for boutique brands i usually would recommend specialty finishes anyway, theres soo many other more affordable brands for creams! and OMG kicking myself over forgetting Tangerine Heat!! they’re def superrrr similar but CG is like a hair lighter and a touch warmer! but the closest to dupes out of anything i showed 🧡
I have Eternal Sunshine, Sinking Feeling, and Sweet Nightmare. I haven't worn any of them yet. I'm disappointed that the formulas aren't as good as I had hoped.
those colors are so pretty together! & you might have a better experience with them! did you buy them more recently? i’m curious is they have the newer brushes.
I love these shades but the formula looks a little difficult to work with. I have some cream polishes from Mooncat and they aren't my favorite formula to work with. Definitely have to work carefully.
yeah they were a bit of a hassle sadly! though i normally experience that since i’m mainly using them for nail art lol. but yeah their creme formula isn’t my fav either 🙈
I've been wondering how these would look with the kaleidoscope haze collection (I bought that whole collection right before a few of them were rip). I feel like some of these cremes would look good with the jelly flakies. As an accent or some sort of art/marble look.
yeah i can kinda see that! i think it would work esp well for like the blues and greens personally, but you could even layer some of the jellies over the creams too which i think could be fun!
Do you have advice? I have several Live Love Polish bottles. How could I have wide brushes? Do you know of any wide brushes that fit in their old shorty bottles or where I could buy bottles to pour them into that have good brush?
oh i’m not sure about any replacement brushes that would fit the old LLP bottles, sorry :/ yeah i think it might be worth buying some empty nail polish bottles with wide brushes off amazon to repour them!
tbh i agree. i have a good chunk of this collection and i am not a fan of the formula :\ so you think that replacing the brushes on these made a huge difference in application?
agh sorry to hear you feel the same, but yeah at least with Sweet Nightmare it did! but i wouldnt be surprised if i would also need to add a few drops of thinner to these to further improve it
