Moonga gaathi or mooghache gathi is traditional goan dish usuallly prepared for breakfast or lunch had with hot pooris or bread. This dish is made using green gram or moong sprouts in a delicious coconut gravy which is tempered (tadka) with mustard seeds and curry leaves. This is a pure veg dish made without using onion and garlic. This dish is also made on special occasions like relogious functions and festivals where you only eat veg food. Moong sprouts are extremely good for health. They are rich in proteins and loaded with vitamins and minerals. They help lower cholesterol and reduce weight.

Ingredients & Quantity
Sprouted moong dal - 250 gms
Salt - 2 tsp
Sugarcane jaggery - 20 gms
Green chilli (slited) - 3 nos
For Masala
Cloves - 5
Black peppercorns - 5
Coriander seeds - 3 tsp
Dried red chillies - 5
Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
Freshly grated coconut - 200 gms
Tamarind lemon sized ball
For tempering,
Coconut oil - 4 tbsp
Mustard seeds - 2 tsp
Curry leaf - 1 sprig
Asafoetida (hing) - 1/4 tsp
