The first LGBTQ movie to win Best Picture at the Oscars.
@JesusPerez-iw3ey
@JesusPerez-iw3ey 3 года назад
To be honest it did not deserve it. Im not a hater, it has a good message, but movies now don't win because of quality, but on how well they virtue signal. This was not the best movie by far that year, and NO ONE will be talking or watching this movie or talking about in in 10 years. Of course, nobody will say that it was not the best movie that year, or u will be called "racist". Again, im talking about the Oscar, not about the message of the movie in case I did not make it clear. Like the Shape of Water that only won because of the Mexican director in a hotly political time. Shape of Water was also by far not the best movie that year.

@@MisterDevos You proved my point. So you saying its a good idea to reward mediocrity over meritocracy/talent? No wonder everything from music, movies, comedy, literature, art, education has regressed or collapsed in the USA. The sheep either don't care, or don't know real greatness or art anymore. Participation trophies and stickers for all, like we give children.

@@JesusPerez-iw3ey American cinema has degraded soo bad over the years its pathetic to see all the remakes and reboots coming out now. A disgrace to the artform.
@JesusPerez-iw3ey
@JesusPerez-iw3ey 3 года назад
@J B Actually, anybody that's been paying attention knows Hollywood, and specially Oscar awards are no longer about "craft" or quality. They literally have said that movies are now entered based on things like social justice or diversity, instead of actual art. They literally have created "inclusion" positions to ensure diversity movies get weighted more. They literally have directed more diverse academy voters, based purely on race. Im not even saying thats bad, but lets not pretend America is still based on greatness and meritocracy. And Moonlight made liberal critic "best of list" because it was such a political and lgbtq movie. List don't mean anything if the "critics" making it have an agenda or are trying to virtue signal for websites hard to protect their job. Almost ALL mainstream media is liberally based, liberally ran, and has purely a liberal agenda. Specially places like NYTimes list,Rotten Tomatoes, any list you will see in most of the big popular websites. As for cinema, you dont have to be an expert to see Hollywood has just become another affirmative action, "diversity first", virtue signalling, censoring, pool....which actually kills real greatness and actual art. Like somebody else said, movies are now boring, remakes, or social justice disasters that are artificially propped up high by critics on rotten tomatoes, but actual people only see it once or to "Say they saw it". Also, have you forgotten how the virtue signalling sheep started it with hashtags like #oscarssowhite, which led to hilarious things like Black Panther being actually NOMINATED for best picture in its year. If you think that movie deserves an Oscar too, you have no clue about whats going on in the world. You are somebody that would agree Black Panther deserved an Oscar too ,bc you have no clue, or have no guts to have an independent though like most of the brainwashed sheep.

Naomie Harris played the mum. She’s a british actress and she’s SO good. She’s moneypenny in the new Bond films and obviously really beautiful. To see her immerse herself in something like this shows what a wonderful actor she is. I can speak from personal experience what it’s like to have a parent let you down when you need them when you’re little and they apologise later on when they wake up. It’s rough. Anyway…

One of my top three favorite films right now. City of God and La Haine if you haven't seen them yet. Also the third chapter when Chiron is now a "man" if you look at the life he is living and the car he drives with a crown on the dash board, he is emulating the only positive male figure in his life.

Not sure how I missed this reaction, but I'm glad you liked it. Mahershala Ali killed it and definitely earned that best supporting actor award, but I'm really surprised that Naomie Harris was overlooked. She was the common denominator in the film's the two best scenes IMO (the scene where Juan confronts her on the street, and the rehab scene). Jharrel Jerome, who plays Kevin in the second act, was unbelievably amazing in _When They See Us_ (Ava DuVernay's mini-series on the Central Park 5). The 4th part focuses on Korey Wise. I knew the story (even though I didn't know he had a developmental disability and I didn't know he had a sister who was trans), but I had to pause it a couple of times because it was so hard to watch. His performance is absolutely incredible, though.

One of the few movies that could have gone on another hour and it wouldn’t have bothered me. Movie flowed so well and pacing impeccable. Every character felt like a real person. Even the missing bits were purposeful and handle well for example Blue dying off screen in act 2 not giving audience a chance to mourn the loss. In Act 3 we hear about Teressa and know she’s still apart of his life but we only get to hear about her through his mother’s questioning. The audience and his mother knows Teressa was a better mother to him but it wasn’t about her in that moment. Just a masterpiece

Happy Friday! (technically Saturday now). Tuning in to the KazzyShow and as usual am enjoying it quite a bit. This film really was something. I remember watching it summer of 2019 and really enjoying it, though it was spoiled a tad because about 6 months earlier I overheard my manager (at the time) talking about it, all pissed off because of "the gay sh!t" his wife made him watch. He was quite homophobic, and sexist as well. Not as much in a hatred kind of way when it came to LGBTQIA+ or women, but this strange fear that would make him lash out, say rude things, etc. Needless to say I am glad I am no longer working for him. But luckily it only came to mind a few times so for the most part I was just able to concentrate on the story, the amazing acting, and really take it all in. IN that same time frame I also worked my way through a few others worth checking out (not specifically for Reactions, but even on your own personal enjoyment time) such as: Yesterday Her Spring Breakers The Imitation Game The Disaster Artist The Florida Project Mid '90s and, for something really strange, Best F(r)iends Part 1 and 2, Perfection, or the timeless classic Chopping Mall (sometimes you need something really strange or cheesy to break up the routine a bit)

This movie has a social justice message. But thats the only reason it won the Oscar. It was not the best movie that year. Of course the sheep will call you racist if you now disagree or have a different opinion on anything like this. The message about acceptance is good though. But for sure was not Oscar worthy if u saw the movie that did not win that year because of this political choice by H0llywood.
@handmightyhand4674
@handmightyhand4674 3 года назад
If we are talking about the nominee's for that year the most overrated one of them in my opinion was Lala land, but I am not a fan of musicals. The only other two nominee's that come to mind that year were Arrival which I think the cinematography carried the majority of that film and Manchester by the Sea which had a great performance by Casey Affleck were the other two that I could see winning that year if Moonlight didn't win. What was your choice for winner that year?
@JesusPerez-iw3ey
@JesusPerez-iw3ey 3 года назад
@@handmightyhand4674 Even Lala Land was a better movie than Moonlight. A modern musical with a not so happy ending. My point is that nobody judges movies now on just quality of story, actors, or genius. Its all about "pre-approved cultural or political relevance", and it must be the right voting demographic culture too being promoted positively...no more movies will win an Oscar about promoting European or Western culture/history. Its all about how "woke" or correctly political liberal movie is from extremely liberal Hollywood, if the message is approved now. Arrival was a much better picture than Moonlight, but it was too smart for most of the masses, and the sheep, or the woke. Not enough diversity in that movie since those types of Aliens don't count anymore. If the Aliens from Arrival was a story about Mexican illegal immigrants...would have had a shot that year. But a genius science fiction movie about the intricacy of time travel..with mostly white or main cast....forget about it that particular year when #OscarsSoWhite and diversity were the main interest of the sheep over anything else. Hollywood literally said it was going to start nominating movies based on that-diversity and social justice. And selecting diversity academy voters too that think diversity trumps quality above all else. Even Manchester By the Sea was a more artistically beautiful picture. But again...white boston actors? forget about that movie. Casey Affleck deserved his best actor Oscar for a sheer brilliantly human artistic performance. But that movie was not what the woke masses were pushing for that year. Also it was a bit sad, but not diversity sad. So I agree, Arrival and Manchester by the Sea are much better pictures and will be remembered more. Both of them were better pictures. But not "culturally relevant or diverse enough" as the academy literally said was going to start selecting more due to the sheep and that hashtag #oscarssowhite. BUT, movie that also deserved it more, and really should have won was Hacksaw Ridge. An actual true story, about a great American hero, a story of courage, valor, faith. Made by a great director Mel Gibson. But...it had everything against it. First, Hacksaw Ridge is pro-American....you think liberal Hollywood under pressure of the woke would give that movie best picture? A story about ww2 and european history? Almost all white actors. A pro-christian movie? lol. A movie with an almost cancelled director who made some controversial bad comments Mel Gibson. A conservative director too. You think that movie had a shot in these social justice times? I am not saying Moonlight has a bad message or it does not deserve to be watched ormade. I am saying it only won because it had the "approved message" being pushed in American society right now. It ticked almost every woke and diverse box.

@@domcoke What does it say? That I have different opinion than you, or vote differently than you? You do know that is still allowed right????although the sheep are told those that think differently about anything are now "Racist". Why don't you try making an actual point about what I actually said. I literally mentioned facts. Or don't you know how the Academy literally said it was going to start changing how it nominates, selects, or votes for movies. And they said nothing about quality of art in that process anymore. They even selecting actors now based on criteria that have nothing to do with merit or art first.
