Yeah buddy, You're right. His way of playing also reminds me Mark Knopfler (no pick, just fingers). Avesome guitar solo and cute singer... I can't stop listen and look at her :)
Mike has always been one of greatest guitar genius of all time. Plus, he re-invented the guitar technique, mostly with his unique use of the right hand and a still mysterious coordination between both hands. I'm a solo guitar player and I can tell this for sure, since I accompany Mike's work since the very beggining, in the early 70's. But unfortunately most of the world "guitar community" - much more conventional 'rock' and jazz influenced - fails on recognizing him as one of the best... The same happens to the other guitar genius as Steve Hackett, Robert Fripp, David Gilmour, Edgar Froese (Tangerine Dream), etc.
Beautiful song and solo I realized that I didn't listen to this song so much time... hmmm... so there's my old MP3 player with some GBs of good music Let's get some nostalgia
I had totally forgotten what a stunning song this is and what a genius of a musician Mike Oldfield is..... Tubular Bells cannot be bettered as a completely solo piece of work.
My God I Absolutely Love this Powerful Spiritual song and this Ladies voice is like the sound of Mikes guitar Superb.!!!! This song is Soooo Filled with Emotional that my eyes fill with tears each time I play this song which is a few times each day! Yes Mike Perfection on his Beautiful guitar and Perfection by the Ladies Beautiful vocals. This song will last through Light years! Thank you Mike and your lovely friend…Just for being YOU! JB. Surrey. UK. This So powerful song if Re released would go straight to Top Spot. Mm! I realise I AM ADDICTED to this Gift of Mike Oldfield Genius.
This is sublime. Mike's playing is smooth, lyrical and other-worldly. And I'm stunned by the singer! That's Helen DeMacque from Pepsi & Shirley. I had no idea she had worked with Mike Olfield. What a voice!
Actually playing a counter rhythm/lead to someone else singing is quite easy. And most folk guitarist accomplish simpler chord progressions whilst singing themeselves, which takes more practice than playing a melody line. It is often how I will learn/recall a song, by first playing the melody in single note form behind the vocals and then working-out the chord structure subsequently. . Hendrix was one of few electric guitarists (...Knopfler to a certain extent) that could sing and play a counter-lead to his vocals... Now that is what you call *mastery*....
Amazing performance with an absolute solid band, such a beautifull song with deep timeless lyrics cant het enough of it ! 😃😃😃thanks for sharing. Greetings and much love and light from the Netherlands everyone ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Mark Knoffler is Just a student When looking at this guitar genius. The solo of " sultans " is Just a copy of the riff from " highway Star " Richie Blackmore was also much and much and much better and gifted than Mark. The real deal !
@@pleun315 i can tell you know next to nothing about playing guitar, sultans of swing is in no way a copy of highway star, sure ritchie blackmore is a great guitar player, but calling mark knopfler a student is a very large understatement. Check out sultans of swing alchemy live for instance (solo from 04:45 in particular) and i’m sure you will change your mind.
@@churpxz6982 play the last part of the solo of highway Star...... And than sultans... Exactly the same only slower 😂😂😂☝️ Richie was way ahead of his time !
@@pleun315 exactly the same ? He isnt even playing the same notes. Mark knopfler plays fingerstyle, ritchie plays with a pick. The only similarity is that hes playing notes fast by using hammer on/ pull offs(which was done way before ritchie by many other guitarists) Judging by your comment you didn’t even bother checking out the live perfomance i recommended in my previous comment. Anyway have a goodnight.
@@churpxz6982 Knoffler stole it..... Richie is the master, Knoffler ss great love his music too but doesn't comes anywhere close to Richie EVERRR 😂😂😂 that's oke but accept it.....Get over it ..... and move on with your life 💋 adiooooooos 👏
Oldfield is clearly something of a guitar geek. Did anyone else pick up on the fact that he switches guitar in the middle of the song from a red Fender Strat (at 1:51) to a sunburst hollowbody PRS for the guitar solo (at 2:11) ? This is not a criticism but to me this just enhances how wonderful he is as a guitarist and musician.
You don't see that often - the only other time I've seen this was Queen at Live Aid. Brian May uses three different guitars on Crazy Little Thing Called Love
Isn't this more to do with losing a string or an other issue? Unless you've written it into the set while your faffing around swapping out there's gaps in output and it sounds bad.
@@craigmurphy1204 Really ? Must re-listen with the headphones - Ok just did - the sound of the Strat does disappear at 1:54 (you can hear Oldfield finger picking just before) but this could have more than one explanation. He could have broken a string or he could just have turned the volume pot down before switching to the PRS. The later has such a sweet tone (and, believe or not, costs 5x more than the Fender) that I think this switch was scripted....
This is superb to" sultans " ..... Mark stole the riff from " highway Star" Richie Blackmore was the one who invented the riff ! Hé is the real genius .
Mike Oldfield gets a lot of praise for his compositions but not his playing. edit..third time watching this in two days...her voice is amazing and now I'm on a Mike Oldfield kick again. songs from distant earth is still my favorite album from him.
I know this legendary solo of "Uumleit Cello" (an original saying of a drunken man at the bar asking whether we could play this too :D) pretty good, because finally we really could! It is not just easy: In the original you have to switch between Fender/Gibson and clean/fuzzy, and this after a long and fast lick... Mike does it easier here: He plays a guitar that looks like a Fender but sounds more like a Gibson, and the lick is shorter. BUT: Then he plays another free solo, and this is definitively even much better than the original solo! What a great musician. I hear tributs to Mark Knopfler... ;) I also like to see many women with instruments on stage. Could happen more often!
