This footage was donated to the Colorado Snowsports Museum and Hall of Fame by Jim (Moose) Barrows in 1996, upon his induction into the Hall of Fame. The video shows Moose Barrows at the 1968 Winter Olympic Games at Grenoble, France - which shows his historic crash. The 1968 Winter Olympics, officially known as the X Olympic Winter Games, were a winter multi-sport event held February 6-18, 1968.
A Steamboat native, Jim was voted Junior Skier of the Year by the Rocky Mountain News in 1962. At CU, his teammate Spider Sabich and coach Bob Beattie nicknamed him Moose where he went on to become the nation's premier four event skier. At the 1968 Olympics in Grenoble, he had a spectacular fall dubbed "the thrill of victory and agony of defeat" that abruptly ended his season (shown in this footage). He recovered to win the 1969 North American Downhill Championships.

I remember watching Jim Barrows and that spectacular crash. He was going all out to try and catch Killy, who dominated the alpine events in that Olympics. Bob Beattie and Jim McKay covering skiing on ABC Sports,...those were the days.
