Hell yeah! I hope this help shed some light on what is what. Im extremely surprised that some mopar dudes havent ripped this video apart. I hope that my info is accurate and i hope it can help someone looking to put a mopar 4 speed in their car.
Ok, its either an np435 or an A833OD. If the shifter is in the center or the transmission tunnel then its a 435. If it has a separate shifter perch hanging off the trans hump to the driver side then its an a833
@@halfwayhousegarage2959 i am Sure it’s an a833. But didn’t know what other info I might need. I have a picture of the side tag but don’t know how to share it on here
I will. Im still not really sure if I'm going to make my A833OD work in the Dart or if I'm going to rebuild the A body 4 speed. I will make more videos. I also have a Super T10 for my 1959 Buick Wagon. I'll make a video on that too
Nice description and you aren't kidding about costing a nutsack and whatever. Around here most people are selling as rebuilt and want $2K. Friggin insane if you are on the buying end such as me or riding the wave if you are the seller. The whole cars were just over that back in the day.
Well, to be a seller you have to be a buyer. You wont find good deals on ebay. When do you find them for sale for a decent price you have to jump on the deal. The longer you do this the more contacts and the more opportunities youll come across. Ive bought probably 4 or 5 4 speeds since this video. Deals are still out there
hello, a question. I own a A833 OD aluminum... also have an iron case from an older A833 not overdrive. Can I swap the case and put the iron instead of the aluminum case? do they interchange with no problem? Is it worth the effort? some advantage in doing so? thanks.. !!
Im really not sure on that. I would say that there is no real reason to. When we are talking about 3000-4000lb cars, 50 lb difference in transmission weight isnt a huge deal. The aluminum OD transmissions are probably the easiest and cheapest out there. The cast iron units are about as tough as old 4 speeds get. Again, im not an expert on these. After 15 years of seeing these at swap meets and owning a few and trying to learn whats what, i decided to share my limited knowledge. Mopar guys make such a huge deal about small variations that it makes it damn near impossible to decipher the basics on what is what.
You can interchange. I have a 76 Volare’ Road Runner, I took out the OD 4spd and put in one from a 68 Road Runner just changed the main shaft and tail shaft housing. If get one from an A or E body you just bolt it in.
@@halfwayhousegarage2959 hi thanks very much for the reply yes it's in my c10 84 chevy 6.2 diesel the bearing at the output shaft end is gone do you think I could get it rebuilt I'm in indiana matt
@@halfwayhousegarage2959 yes I'm 100% sure it's shifts on the side and has a hurst shifter it works really good with the 6.2 the 4th gear being the overdrive when I get back from visiting some relatives I'll have a good look at the case I'm pretty sure it's the heavy-duty one you showed on the end
