thank you for not being afraid to say "this is a skip" that is kind of honesty I look for. so many reviewers are afraid to suggest not buying something.

No problem, this one is. Advantage of buying these myself. It's almost better on the USB power side versus many others but it's a bad power supply is another way to look at it.

Hey thanks for the review, should i get this if it around 33$ ? It is on sale included with a type c cable here and i am very tempting to buy a 100w charger or higher lol

Yeah. For that price it is a pretty great value.

Have you ever considered taking these apart to see what's inside for another level deeper of information (like why the three different 120W adapters are differently-sized)? I understand that might make it prohibitively expensive since you possibly can't return or reuse them after that.
@scottleggejr

I follow another YT channel "Charger lab" and they do reverse engineer these things. A few people including myself have suggested a coop between the channels.
@stellarproductions8888
@stellarproductions8888 Год назад
If you look back towards the beginning of his channel, you will notice, that he used to do product tear downs, and shared his advanced knowledge of the individual components inside. It was primarily back when he was showing off dangerous Chinese made products, that didn't care if they killed you or burned your house down. These days he doesn't do that anymore, maybe perhaps because he buys all these power adapters himself, is NOT sponsored by any means. And since they power adapter are essentially destroyed when you tear them apart, understandably, he's not jumping at the chance to throw 100 bucks or more down the drain. I tell you what though, use that Mofi power adapter, and it might do worse then setting your money on fire, just saying lol.
@AllThingsOnePlace
@AllThingsOnePlace Год назад
I do owe a few teardown videos for sure... chargerlab does a good job on the teardowns though and is an actual company so I think the budget allows these things. I don't mind sacrificing a power adapter here and there though. It isn't so much that I don't want to do it, it is what time allows for. Reviews are faster than teardown videos and the YT engine requires content, haha.

I appreciate the video! I purchased one of these when Amazon ran a 50% off coupon for $49. First one arrived used so I sent it back, noticed the battery was actually draining instead of charging then noticed it was scratched and worn off in areas. Waiting for the replacement to arrive, fingers crossed it's a new one. Watching the video I'm wondering if you think it's fine to leave on my desk plugged in 100% of the time. It'll be used to charge a magic keyboard, magic trackpad, Logitech mouse, etc. Just seeing if you have any opinion on whether it's safe for devices like that in addition to phones tablets etc.
@AllThingsOnePlace
@AllThingsOnePlace Год назад
The idle was okay on this device, just on the edge of okay. It won't break the bank to leave it plugged in. It has the requisite safety listing. This doesn't really give you information on longevity of a device but at least it is safe to use as intended.

I wish I watched this video before buying one. If you hook it up to a MacBook Pro 16" using MagSafe cable, it will start switching on and off. I have contacted Zagg to get a replacement unit, which had exactly the same problem. I suspect it happens because mac is trying to pull 140W of power from this adapter, and it tries to serve it at that rate for some reason? Instead of capping at 100W. In other words, would not recommend getting one.
@AllThingsOnePlace
@AllThingsOnePlace Год назад
huh, yeah that is not supposed to happen. Thanks for sharing though, important to know that there is a failure mode in this device with that cable. It shouldn't be capable of asking for 140W since that uses the EPR mode and needs 28 volts which the mophie can't negotiate for or supply. The cable itself should be smart enough to know that.

Excellent content as always. I would like to submit some recommendations for your consideration on your future videos : 1) LENOVO lipstick chargers : Well, I am not sure whether Lenovo commercializes its ThinkPlus line of chargers, aka the lipstick, in the US/CA market. Lenovo is one of the brands that actually put quite a lot efforts in making solid chargers, much better than their laptops IMHO. For example, their 3rd gen Gan 65w Nano charger. 2) Xiaomi chargers: I am not a fan of Xiaomi smartphones but the charges they make are quite good TBH. MDY-14-EU 67W may be a good one to start with. It has two ports, one USB-C + one USB-A, each of which supports up to 20V @ 3.25A. I'd be very much interested to watch a future video about these products.
@AllThingsOnePlace
@AllThingsOnePlace Год назад
Lenovo is certainly one to check out and thanks for the suggestion. I looked at one Xiaomi charger and it lacked any form of safety listing at all which immediately reduces the recommendation level of a product. The 65W single port was the one l looked at and it wasn't doing anything amazing. Average performer power wise. I will still do some of these but it is a little lower priority.

Razer has a unique (I'm pretty sure) 130W charger. two USB-C and also two USB-A ports that work separately, safety listing and the VI and the UL energy verified efficiency mark. Not sure how it implements PFC but i just ordered a super cheap power meter from china that can tell me that. It's too expensive for what it is so i sure hope it actually does good on the efficiency and voltage control, and has PFC at 5V.

Having looked at razer products they seem to lower the price significantly only when they want to completely clear the remaining inventory, kinda emulating apple pricing behaviour for most of their products.

@AllThingsOnePlace

The Shargeek Storm2 Slim technically will meet that criteria. It is expensive and has a ton of other issues but at that power level (10-15W delivered on the USB A port) it should work fine. I haven't found any others yet. I do have a bunch of products that are specifically designed to be low voltage UPS's on the way though.

Thanks for the great detailed review. Always love your testing. One question. You said that it doesn’t support Samsung super fast charging. That’s 45w right? Does that mean there is no 15v 3A mode on it? I wanted to use this to charge my steam deck and/or ROG Ally (not at the same time of course). The steam deck is 45w and the Ally is 65w. So will I not be able to use this for my steam deck being 45w?
@AllThingsOnePlace
@AllThingsOnePlace Год назад
Yeah, it will do the fixed PD modes, 15V,3A is one of the modes this adapter supports, but it doesn't have the high current PPS mode for Samsung. For the 65W, I assume it'll be the 20V mode and over 3 amps so it'll require a 5 amp (100W+) cable too.
@skyliner967
@skyliner967 Год назад
@@AllThingsOnePlace thanks for the info. So using the 20v 5A mode of 100w should be ok for the 65w ally? I wasn’t sure if it would need a specific 65w mode (I.E. something like 20v 3.25A).
@AllThingsOnePlace
@AllThingsOnePlace Год назад
@@skyliner967 Yeah, the device decides how much power to use not the power adapter. A larger power adapter or power supply doesn't mean more power will be used. It is actually better to oversize a bit from a heat and longevity perspective.
