Everyone loves morakniv knives. They are inexpensive and have good quality steel, offering a budget option for an outdoors knife. I did this video to compare two popular mora knives, the mora companion and the mora classic no. 1. I wanted to display these two to help others decide which one is right for them based on my own experience with these knives. I hope this video helps,

I bought my first Mora knife over 20 years ago and it is still a functional blade.

Honesty the sheath on the Mora classic is better as it attaches properly to a belt. I lost my first Mora companion after 10 mins walking down a hill through some brush to get to a fishing spot. I have never forgotten it and now the sheath is as important to me as the blade. A blade is no use if you lose it in the undergrowth!

I wonder if you can still get the leather sheath for the classic. I remember seeing them at Canadian Tire when I was a kid. Thank you for the video

I'm not sure about that one, but I like it will be the first knife I make a leather sheath for. it is deserving of one

BC Bushcraft wait you can create patina by putting the blade in mustard? For how long ?

lololie22 ya, all you do is take a q tip, dip it in mustard and draw spaced lines on your carbon steel knife. wait like 15min and wipe the mustard off. you can search diy forced mustard patina. some guys just squirt the mustard on. I'll be doing a vid on it shortly

Let’s open a beer. This is my kind of topic. Cheers 🍻 Ok my beer is finished so as your comparison. I just love companion but in defence of Mora Classic I should say both Gods of bushcraft, Mors Kochanski and Cody Lundin tamed the essence of wilderness using merely a Mora Classic. Even Mr. Kephart himself came to my dream saying wish I had a Mora Classic back then. :d About their temporary sheaths, one who want to bush”CRAFT” should be able to make a proper sheath using bamboo or tree barks or leather of some sort for a healthy long lasting relationship with their knife. Keep it up 🔪

I just found out that the Mora classic #2 will fit like a glove in the companion sheath. Witch I think is a better sheath. Hope you find this helpful.

mostly spoons or things that serve a purpose around the house( mallets, etc). I have carved an axe handle too :). nothing fancy yet though

Daniel Karlsson ya I have I like the line up and what they offer. I need a smaller blade for sure for carving beads etc. with more control. at the moment l choke way up on the blade and carve at the tip to get a similar effect.

what oil you use? Mora make fantastic knives, dont think you can beat them for the price. Make your own leather sheath for classic and you have perfection.

Problem with the mora classic is its gone up a lot in price. Still got bought one today tho becuase even at $35 its a good value. I dont think you can find a good wood handle scandi knife for double what they want for it.

Personal taste. I think the Classic 1 is as ugly as a knife can get, and I hate the way it feels in my hand. I find the handle uncomfortable, and because it's a broomstick design, it rolls in my hand, which is not good for any cutting task. There's no way I ca carve with it. But I do all small carving with a Stockman, anyway. There is no better knife for carving. I'm just not a Mora classic fan, just as I'm not a 511 fan. For me, the grip is as important as the blade, and the soft, high friction grip on the Companion is really why I love it so much.

All handle shapes compromises, both classic no1 and companion are too small for heavy wood working, but if they were bigger it would make them worse in other holdings than hammer grip. Rubber in prolonged heavy carving always gives blisters. Classic no1 was mostly used as a wood working knife 100 years ago, but was able to do it all. Companion handle shape is more versatile, much better in cutting, side holding for processing game and such, but much worse in serious wood working, it's too thin and too grippy for that, it doesn't have enough bulge in the middle. Check out robust and heavy duty, they give sturdy hammer grip but clumsiness in others.
