/ revhiker www.amazon.com... Outdoor review and demonstration with the Mora Eldris neck knife. This thing is great for bushcraft, ultralight backpacking, and EDC (everyday carry)
Love my Eldris! If you find the handle to be too small, just put it back in the sheath blade out. It's designed to give larger hands a better grip that way. It adds about two finger widths to the length of the handle. Also, Nite-ize makes an expandable flashlight belt sheath that the Eldris sheath fits inside of beautifully to make a true belt carry of it. I've never liked wearing a knife around my neck either.
It may be little, but it seems like it's a workhorse! Nice field test! I've been waiting for your review to see if I should get one or not, but now, for sure, I want one.
that's a common complaint I hear about the eldris - why would I pay 25 dollars for a 2'' blade, when you can buy a full size companion (4'' blade) for half that? Except the eldris is a compact knife, and for most things it is not only adequate, but actually more comfortable to use than a 4'' blade, because it's a lot easier to control. The only thing (besides batoning) that this is not very good for, is a main camp knife used for food preparation. I actually have two of these, and keep one in my bag at all times.
I love the blue one,ive noticed quite a few folks are using blue, also a fun fact for larger hands you can put you knife handle in the sheath for a longer handle i saw on another channel so it interested me by just a fun lil edc neck knife or how yiur carriing it which someone had mentioned to me also.
you know i wasint to sure about this knife when it came out i thought the blade was too short to do much but seams to work great! btw random question haha what camera have you been using for your videos lately????
RevHiker you had recommended the moraknive craft line for me to get my son because it had a finger guard.. can't wait for him to open it on his birthday on the 29th. I also got him a fire starter and mountain smith scout pack.
I like this knife, but I am concerned that the handle will feel too short for my hands. One thing I saw one RU-vid reviewer do was to pull the knife, turn it around and then push the handle into the sheath thus making a longer handle. Not sure how that would work or feel, but it surprised me as rather clever. Usually to get a knife, I just have to take a chance as stores nowadays almost never have display models for customers to hold and online offers are often better price wise than stores.
MasterK9Trainer I wear XL gloves if that helps. The Sheath on the back works pretty well, but I've never felt like I needed it with the length of the blade. It's more than enough grip for the blade
Drew, I've been carrying a $4 Walmart pocket knife for EDC and hiking. On a recent day hike, I tested my fire steel skill. The spine of my cheap blade couldn't get the job done. I'm considering buying a Mora Eldris or Mora Companion. I like most things about the cheaper, longer companion, however the companion has rounded edges. What would be your advise in comparing the two?
LynchMob42 you can always do like I did...I took my companion, put it in a vise and filed the spine to 90deg. Worked awesome. a couple seconds on a grinder with a light touch will do the job too.
The very concept of a "neck knife" has always escaped me; too darn figglety. To me the neck is for whistles and maybe dog tags, at most, not a multi-ounce chunk of steel flipping and flopping all over the place.
