If you long for a simple, old fashioned Christmas like the ones from long ago, this is a wonderfully nostalgic craft to learn. These traditional Moravian stars are made from strips of paper woven and folded, and then dipped in wax. Optionally, a sprinkling of glitter adds a little bit of magic.

If you're making these, here's the $5 roll of olive paper! You can make hundreds of stars for pennies! amzn.to/3TwQPd1

I inherited some of these from my grandparents. They are starting to show their age. I'm so happy to finally find out how to make them. I have been searching for several years--it was the wax and glitter that was missing from all the other videos. Thank you!

I feel the wax is key - it adds an almost translucent quality, and makes the stars surprisingly durable. ♥

My mom tried to teach me how to make these when I was a kid. I still have 1 star that was made by my grandmother when my mom was a kid ( the star is about 85 yrs old now ,and still has some of the original glitter *Lord only know what the glitter is made of !!*). I still put it on the tree at Christmas. I am now going to attempt to learn this sweet craft via your video. Thank you for the clear tutorial.

My family has been making these every year since before I was born! This yeah while I was making them I got lazy and used mod podge instead of wax and it actually worked great! So that’s a little hack for everyone lol

I love that! When you use the mod podge do you paint it on or dip them?

We had these in my house as a child but they disappeared over time. I'm going to try these. Can they be painted prior to waxing?

I haven't tried painting them first, but that would be fun to try! The wax soaks into the paper a little, so I'm not sure if acrylics would be too much of a barrier. Watercolors, or ink pens maybe? You can also use patterned papers.
