I presented this song to my guitar teacher (he had been playing guitar for 20 years). He had no effing idea how the guitar solo was played. I figured it out.
I figured out how to play this riff back in the day. Back then there was no tablature or RU-vid tutorials. You had to actually listen to the guitar work and translate it into your own handwork. When I played this riff for my friends they fucking freaked out.
Spawn of the ever rolling abyss, espousing, unluminous Charred soul - Burned at rebirth Quest not save the death of the sun Repulsed by the light Heart pumping ice So cold to this world Reclude until the summoning Sworn to the black Our father begotten, not made Before all legends of man Receive my loyalty, my offering In my veins; the blood of the ancient brood Summon me Burning inside, I feel the call Blood of the Ancient Ones now boils At war - War with the race Father rise and the world be one Repulsed by the light No feeling for life Drained of my being I lie dead but still I'm sworn Source: Musixmatch

I could have seen them on the same tour, only a different country. They came to my hometown, Adelaide in South Australia, and played a show at a pub called the Old Lion, if memory serves. I'm fucking right royally pissed off that I didn't go - but I'd seen Carcass in the same year and that fried my eardrums for months afterwards, so I was very hesitant to go through that again. Weak, I know - but I think I'm one of those people that loves extreme metal and will happily listen to it all day; I just can't do it live....
I always preferred David Vincent's vocals over Steve Tucker. He had better range and his voice just sounds more plain evil to me. Vincent sounds like a demon/occultist with hellfire in his heart, while Tucker sounds like a vengeful mystical being that waged war on ancient civilizations. You can't go wrong with either.
Dave had more personality, Steve was straight brutality. Although Steve went higher at times on heretic and sounded totally demonic. Both are death metal legends in my opinion.
@@somethingsomething9008 no. It's considered ONE OF THE BEST death metal albums of all time. There are a bunch which can be considered as the best. There's no inherent reason for any of those albums to be deemed as better than the other ones
+Mastercraft GFX How does that matter when the vocals you hear aren't David Vincents, you fucking idiot? I'm of course, speaking of the Revocation cover, not the original.
Another reason to hate florida.just kidding.some of my favorite bands were deicide, obituary, morbid different lead singers.one of the coolest concerts I ever went to was Pantera, morbid angel,n soulfly.all the drummers n dimebag n Phil were all jamming out on tribal drums.one of the coolest things I've seen in my lifetime
the original European release has a full picture but American release from the same period has it censored All subsequent releases are censored as well... And I'm struggling to find a not censored copy in good condition...
Death Metal was so poorly mixed in the 90s. The amount of post production compression is atrocious on all of my favorite late 80s/early 90s death metal albums. The main american death metal bands were in Florida, and they utilized Morrisound studios to record. Morrisound studios is the main problem. So many great albums ruined by the shitty production. Even this still sounds like shit. Being recorded in the 80s and 90s wasn't the issue. There are PLENTY of very well mixed albums from then and prior to that. It's that the Morris brothers had NO IDEA what the fuck they were doing.
This is at least clean clear and loud. Not at all 'bad' you want bad , try Death Magnetic. Now there's a flat topped wave form. A little compression HELPS metal...though full range can impress , when it's supposed to nearly always be loud, compression makes the mix 'gel'
I prefer the old Morris-sound by far to what we get now. Those old albums like this one had a thick heaviness and an analog warmth, whereas most death metal albums of the past 20+ years have very sterile, robotic productions, as if it's all been done by an AI.
You've got a point in that this album is a downgrade from the two before it, as the band began dumbing down their writing to appeal to a more mainstream crowd starting here.
