Very helpful addition to your previous video! This one is going straight into my sewing playlist as I ALWAYS have to do an enormous…ahem, large bust adjustment. If there were a way to share my “blessings” with those less fortunate, I’d do so in a heartbeat! Thank you for the fantastic information. PS: Your haircut is adorable!!

I'm so glad you included the princess seam adjustment. I really want some vests for some reason, but many patterns have princess seams and I just - didn't have a clear idea of how to deal with that, or the brainpower to figure it out. I'm a G cup, so... nothing fits! Yay! I saw a comment on either this video or your previous one wishing that breast tissue could be donated and I wholeheartedly agree. A cup size for you! A cup size for you! And a cup size for you! EVERYBODY gets a cup size! (Plz, plz take them.)

Enjoyable to watch. For myself, its almost always a small bust adjustment and one of the biggest reasons why I started sewing for myself. Though making full bust adjustments seems a bit strange to me. However I do those for most of my customers. Hardest to get them to understand that a bust adjustment looks better than sizing up in garment or pattern size, nor will it draw attention to the bust by obtaining a proper fit.

I'll definitely be saving this video for future reference. It's a wonder no one (that I've encountered) has needed to adjust corset patterns for a large bust! (The googling of "how to FBA corset patterns brought me here) The princess seam might actually help me out.

Thanks for this. The arm holes look really odd in the final versions. Do they need adjusted or is that how they should be cut out?
@DixieDIY
@DixieDIY 3 года назад
No, if you do an FBA the armholes will look more curved. The off-the-shoulder ballgown bodice already has "weird" looking armholes for a couple reasons - the shoulder point is on the side of your arm instead of above on your natural shoulder, and the side seam comes up and around to the back of the body. When you do an FBA on that style of pattern, the armhole looks extra small but that's actually ok!

What happened to the first two arm holes? Would you be willing to take a crack at the Simplicity Stay pattern 8162 designed by American Duchess, I've been trying to figure it out for a year-and-a-half. I am a 34 H. And suffer from cystic fibrosis which is rather painful due to the swelling of the brest tissue.
@DixieDIY
@DixieDIY 2 года назад
When you do an FBA it alters the armhole by making it curvier. One of the tale tell signs you need an FBA when you make a mock up is that you'll get gaping in the armscye area. By doing the FBA you eliminate that gaping. The larger the FBA, the curvier that armhole will get. On the princess seam bodice, since the dress is off-the-shoulder and the side seam swings toward the back of the bodice, it looks especially odd but it is correct! An SBA would make the armhole less curvy. As for the Simplicity pattern, I doubt it. I already have a decent set of late 18th century stays and if I tackle earlier stays I'd probably try drafting them myself or maybe using a pattern from a different brand. IIRC I think LizCapism made that pattern last year. If you're up for trying something new, I'd recommend the Augusta Stays by Scroop Patterns. I haven't made them yet but I like the company and I know they have both a "straight" and "curvy" drafts, plus it has a fit guide. And the stays have a slight opening in front that you could loosen or tighten depending on your swelling! I've never had much luck with "Big 4" historical costume patterns (their sizing and ease are funky). Good luck!

At what point is a dart wide enough that it needs to be split into multiple darts? I know it varies depending on the length of the dart, but maybe it can be determined by the angle?
@DixieDIY
@DixieDIY 3 года назад
If it looks more like an equilateral triangle (the opening is as wide as the legs are long or wider) you probably need to split. The longer the dart is (like if it goes to the waist rather than just under the bust) the less dramatically wide the dart will be.
