Just catching up again, most informative. I'm also glad someone is keeping the memory of my channel alive, because I'm certainly not very active in the winter months. Keep up the great progress with your channel, doing great!

Great tear down Dean, reminded me of my very first motorised transport (well legal one anyway), which was a Puch Maxi. It had chain tensioners and spindle set up similar to this one. Cheers, Jon

Nice one Dean It brought memories of me renovating my Shooting Star and Super Rocket, those two are no longer with me, just my original unrenovated Shooting Star bestows my workshop now in the BSA range ATB HNY Kev

Its a lovely bike, your Shooting Star. Thanks for watching and supporting Kev. Happy New Year, Dean.

my pin I had to use a sledge hammer with the frame laying on a socket locked in a vice, you were very lucky with that pin

Great Work again Dean. That bike is looking like it is generally in good condition. I can never understand why people persist with those awful open sided bearings and run the risk of brake shoe contamination from the grease in the hub. The Ferodo aftermarket brake shoes are good and may possibly be a cheaper option than re-bonding, but can understand if you wanted to keep the originals. I'm enjoying progress......

Cheers Bones, I've ordered a pile of parts today, brake shoes included. I can't imagine why the previous owner decided to put half a tin of grease in the hub. Have a great New Year, Dean.

If you've watched my videos you are undoubtedly very familiar with my elbows, hands and the back of my head as well. We both need a camera person I think.

Gday Dean, hope you had a great time over Xmas, the previous owner of the Bantam really had an affinity with grease didn't he, you'll soon be pooling about on the BSA , if I had a bigger shed I'd love to get a retro machine , probably a Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650, such good value & RE have won bike of the year for a while now, one would look good next to the Harley Fatboy, all the best 👍

Hello Geoff, hope you had a good one too. Those RE twins are great value and Hitchcocks will ship parts worldwide. You can get everything. Go for it! Best wishes for the New Year, Dean.

@@retromechanicalengineer it's pouring here in Aberystwyth, quiet day in for me, roll on better weather so I can get out on the Fatboy, always puts a smile on the dial, may see Pete a bit later on 🍷🍷

Fantastic job. I wonder if the speedo cable flats are BA size? Really raining here too now. Can you make a new swing arm pivot pin? Some odd things there..Like greased sealed bearings. Odd. Nice AG t shirt!
@retromechanicalengineer
@retromechanicalengineer Год назад
I bet the Speedo Cable is BA, I'll check if I have the right size. I have some BA spanners. It's been damp here too, a few heavy showers mostly at night. I can't understand the amount of grease between the bearings, especially as they are shielded. It actually got past the bearings to contaminate the linings, there was so much of it. Have a great New Year's. Dean.
@carlwilson1772
@carlwilson1772 Год назад
@@retromechanicalengineer I see that. You can get ba spanners for pennies. A good thing to remember is a Meccano spanner is 4BA. I was in the Borders yesterday, driving was hellish. M74 closed by floods. Driving elsewhere was basically fording rivers every half mile or so. Toyotas are great cars. I reckon you should get those brake shoes relined. Did you know that Ferodo brake lining material was invented in the small town of Chapel en Le Frith in Derbyshire?

Hey Cain, there is a ring of small bolts around the sprocket that fasten it to the hub. Happy New Year my friend. Dean.
