@WallyTheBuilder- That is so cool that those Tubes fit under your seat. Facing those tubes backwards gives a Db increase from whats known as boundary loading, and also allows for a deeper bass note to develop, its a win, win= very nice job! Hey just to try, seal off the ports, and see how those JLs sound like that. It will lose output in the midband, but pick up on freq. below 40Hz.

Interesting… I always noticed rear facing was the best sound, didn’t know those details. Thank you! I was thinking of trying them sealed. Do you think it’s a problem that the sealed volume of these tubes is about double the sealed volume spec from JL? And do you think the tube shape will make more bass in sealed form than a box in sealed form? Just curious… I may even just buy some pvc and put sealed caps on it rather than seal the bazooka tubes.

Also… maybe one sealed, one ported. Would that compliment each other or cancel each other out?

@@Wallymakesstuff- The tubes having almost double the Mfg. Rec. sealed cubic feet, will prob. bring the Qtc= damping of the sealed enclosure, below .707, but only slightly. This will be good for accurate, Sq type sound, and will lower the woofers power handling, but not by much. After impedance rise, you will be fine. It should work out well, for Sq.!? Also, by the tubes being deep= more distance from the enclosures back wall, from the back side of the woofer cone, it should have less resonance, than in a shallow enclosure(like a typical sub enclosure). This should have better output in the 20Hz to 39Hz freq. Range, but lose output, and boomy bass, in the mid 40s to 80Hz. Should sound very smooth, very musical. Try playing the rap song: ("Put On"), by Jeezy, it has 4 to 5 bass lines, with the highest note being 55Hz, and the lowest being 27Hz. I know its not youtube friendly, but test by yourself, on these tubes ported, vs sealed, and then tell us on video, how different it sounds, (ported vs sealed)

@@Wallymakesstuff- No it wont cancel it out, like some would like you ro think.Try it out, 1 sealed, and 1 ported, it just might be exactly the sound you like!?

@@evilinside5984 thanks dude, solid feedback and ideas! I am going for SQ so this could be a good improvement. I am a bit concerned these tubes can’t handle the pressure of a sealed enclosure however… not the walls, but the mounting locations - only one way to find out! That’s what JB weld is for anyway😂. Maybe I’ll try sealing one, compare the two separately, then together with one sealed/ one ported. What are your thoughts about adding poly fill or denim insulation in either use-case (ported vs sealed)?

Try some transmissions lines built from pvc pipes, you seem smart enough to figure it out, promise you’ll be impressed at the performance

RU-vid has a royalty free music library with some bass focused music if that is your preference.

Nice comparison video 😁 i also got my dad into listening to some EDM from time to time, he wanted a subwoofer that didnt take up too much room but had great sound quality so we went with a JL W-7 8inch and was nit disappointed

I'll do a part 3 soon....going to play with sealing one or two of them with a temporary seal, and if I like it better, permanently seal one or both... I'll include some videos of the subs for ya! 😎

Use an app that would generate a sine sweep and set the spectrum analyzer to peak hold mode - that will give you a better idea of what the frequency response of those subs actually is. Set the sweep to go from about 35 Hz to 200 Hz if you can. You can then use those results to tune out any big peaks in the response curve with EQ or x-over settings and the resulting bass should sound a lot cleaner and better. TBH though, it does sound pretty decent already from the recording.

@@Wallymakesstuff Another way is just to use an app that can generate "pink noise". Then you can use the RTA like you normally would. Turn off the amp for your main speakers first though, unless you want to try to find the best x-over setting between the sub and the main speakers. Be prepared though - this might end up being a BIG rabbit hole to go down. I went there and now I have a 6-channel DSP handling all the x-over and EQ work for my car audio system.

@@Grommet2007⁠man that’s something I was thinking of doing. You’re right, this rabbit hole just keeps getting deeper and deeper 😂. My head unit has pretty decent dsp abilities (for what little I know it seems good anyway). I was wondering if all pink noise bbcovers the full range of frequencies. Spotify sure has a lot of them to choose from.

Save yourself some money, try Dayton Audio. I've been a JL fan since the start, and I do believe the quality isn't what it used to be. I did have a lot of fun popping W1 caps before they came out with the W6 trio forms.
