Hi Dan, I just metaphorically scored a triple hundred and took a fifer! Got the all clear after my recent brush with the cancer. Thanks again to you, Cornish Koli and Tyler for you various vids that helped me on dark days!
Brilliant news! Best thing I’ve heard in ages - good luck and have a fabulous summer, hopefully getting back to cricket! Delighted to hear we played a part, but I’m sure you did the really hard work.
Great to see the svelte frame of "Uncle Phil" trundling in again.I'd imagine the fines session at the end of the game would of boosted team funds by quite a few quid.
Can I ask why you pom's insist on saying the ball was hit through extra cover? It's just cover. You hit the ball through covers to the extra cover fielder, (if there is more then one fielder in the covers). Sorry, just a bug bite of mine 😂
Extra cover is a specific area as distinct from cover point, which is squarer. It is these two together that make up the covers, so referring to a ball through extra cover is a more accurate way of describing where it went and nothing to do with the number of fielders there. Nowadays cover point is usually just called point, so this finer distinction is lost on the uninitiated!
@@martinwatkins1444 it's all about interpretation then I suppose. My interpretation, you hit the ball through cover to the extra cover fielder. Extra cover is a fielding position, not a position ON the field.
@@buddhacampbell3813 I take your point, but my pom interpretation is that extra cover IS a position on the field, which is why we keep describing it that way. Cover point and extra cover describe 2 separate areas of the off side in the same way that square leg and midwicket do on the leg. Just calling it the covers could be anywhere between gully and mid off, which is a bit vague. I think some of us of a certain age tend to be a bit traditional in things like that, but I realise that times move on… Glad you have discovered Sanderstead like I have. Cheers
One the fielders was yapping away incessantly in a loud voice - I’m a bit “old school” and dislike inane babble on a cricket pitch. Clever wit is great, but noise for the sake of it is just not cricket. He was a lovely lad, though! 😂
He’s living and working in Birmingham (for Aston Villa) - playing for a club in the Warwickshire leagues (Filongley CC). He’ll be back from time to time for the occasional Sunday match.
Brilliant as usual Dan. The groundsmen are doing a great job at the Old Saw Mill as the wickets provide good scores over 200 regularly. The oppo batted far too long or they didnt get enough runs half way(50 overs). Find that strange in this format. Unless they are brilliant bowlers and having batted first, saw how the wicket played, how could they expect to get a weakend Sanderstead out in 45 overs. Imagine you all enjoyed the Pilgrims afterwards. Did you also recognise that the oppo had more left hand bats as right. Seems to be in these days and often 2 lefties batting together. Saves time and energy with the field placings. Thanks as usual Dan
Totally agree on the ground comments - a decent track is so important for producing positive, entertaining cricket. You’re right about declarations - too many captains try to put games out of reach then declare. In my view, the winning draw and win targets need to very similar then the chasing team is always in two minds. Sadly most captains don’t understand this format well enough to optimise the tactics you can use.
Thanks Dan. Great game. Superb sportsmanship, what a fabulous knock from Ryan one for the fantasy team at the moment. Perhaps take the butter out of the changing room 🤣 ( butter fingers) Will we get any Sunday cricket or one of you fab extra games ? Do love see Village Cricket. All the best R
Watching the famous Sanderstead has made me miss Saturday first XI cricket so much! Need to get back into it badly. Keep up the great work guys! Off I go to look for a club near me…
Played my only 2 cricket matches of the year this weekend, as Saturdays are usually off limits due to work. Living vicariously through the ups and downs of the Sanderstead season is how I get my cricket fix each weekend now!
Excellent ton from Foley, and a lovely bloke to boot! If it wasn't for all the dropped catches, I'd argue that cricket was the winner today. Still is though.
Nice game to watch , well batted to the 2 centurians and it was good to see some different players ... i assume the club had a lot of changes team selection wise this week ... the return of UNCLE PHIL was a nice bonus , great stiff again Dan
Thanks Fossil - yes, quite a few players out for various reasons but back to near full availability next week. Dropped catches cost the 1s and 2s victory chances - but that’s cricket!
My saturdays arent complete without Mr. Allen famous words "Happy saturday viewers" i deserve a shout on next video as one of the most regular and maybe also the most far viewr 😂😂😂😂😂.. as always kind regards from Panama !!
Lovely stuff Dan. And I'm happy to report that one of the Sky commentators at the test match yesterday used the phrase 'straight out of Farmers Weekly'.
Really!!! That’s one I genuinely made up, unlike the other phrases which I’ve nicked from people like Benaud and Barry Norman’s Spitting Image puppet 😂 - and why not?
