There are many things we can do to conserve water. Lawn removal or reduction can certainly be one way. However, if you’re in a HOA and required to have some lawn, these tips can help you water more efficiently thereby reducing water usage.
Texas Water Development Board:

Texas reservoir fill status:

Water audit kit:
a.co/d/dNIJb48
My water audit had an average of 0.2inches per 15 minutes of runtime in my first zone. This means that I’m only getting about 0.8inches per hour. To get the full inch of water I will have to run this zone for 75 minutes divided into 2 or 3 soak cycles (to prevent runoff). If we have had less than an inch of rain I can reduce the total runtime by subtracting the amount still needed to reach 1 inch of water. If we’ve had an inch of rain I can skip lawn irrigation for that week.

Great message! Drives me nuts to see sprinklers going right now with all the rain we're getting and the lakes still so low.

Thanks Jean! I used to be that person! I think people genuinely want to do better but they’re not sure what that should look like. This video is for them.💗

I'd love to run my sprinklers only when I think it needs it but my city mandates what day each week I can water which completely kills the chance to be efficient.

I hear you. I’m mandated to Tuesday and Thursday. Clearly 2 days between is too soon. My plan is to shoot for Tuesday only. Currently I’m only mowing every two weeks and mowing at a 3inch height. As I understand it, this strategy for mowing can help those roots go deeper so that the grass needs less frequent watering. We’ll see how it goes!
