I’m a gardener in the central Texas area(zone 8b)and would love to share my gardening journey and learn from other plant enthusiasts.
The name "Plant Ninja" came about as a play on words. Some days I'm tending plants with ninja-like skill and some days I'm just killing them 😅
I have curated some of the products I regularly use on an Amazon storefront(see link below). I do earn a small commission from any purchases you make through my storefront link.

I think those U-shaped garden hooks that hammer into the ground would be perfect to anchor this contraption! Anyway, going to build something like this to cover my container pond since it gets WAY too much sun for fish...

@@donnajoy6951 I’m really excited to hear this! Get ready for some birds and pollinators! I designed my own layout. Figured central turf was practical with small dog and kids and that left the perimeter to work with. Sunniest part of the perimeter became my vegetable garden and the rest has been through trial and error. @theplantninja-texasgardener
@theplantninja-texasgardener 20 дней назад
@@bredear I’m going to be honest on this one…I absolutely respect those who want to avoid chemicals in their gardening. However, I do use herbicides for some things. Bermuda creeping into my garden beds is about the only thing I use glyphosate on. I’ve not had success with anything else. I cut a plastic water bottle and let it sit over the sprayer nozzle to limit overspray.
@bredear
@bredear 20 дней назад
@@theplantninja-texasgardener Same, I only use a herbicide for Bermuda grass. When I started my garden, I used every single natural method I read and heard to eliminate the Bermuda, it came back every time, I fight the fact that I needed something bad to get rid of it. Until I read an article by Benjamín Vogt, it blew my mind, sometimes is just not sustainable to excavate, solarize, or cover the floor with cardboard and mulch for months. These methods work for many things but not for Bermuda. Unfortunately I have to use glyphosate, follow the instructions carefully and be done with it. Thanks for your great tips! 😊

Thank you for a very useful video. I learned a lot this morning, enough to get me to rethink my landscaping. Please excuse my ignorance, why is Bermuda grass considered an issue for his landscape? I have lived in foreign lands where people just plant lots of flowering shrubs and fruit trees indiscriminately. I am just trying to learn gardening in the USA. At my property, I have been trying to grow Bermuda grass not knowing that it is a problem. Again, thank you I appreciate you. Best wishes.
@theplantninja-texasgardener
@theplantninja-texasgardener 20 дней назад
Bermuda is a common turf grass used but it’s very aggressive and will find its way into your garden beds. So it’s not a bad grass, it just misbehaves, if that makes sense 😝

Bermuda grass has stolens.. They store a lot of energy and can go without water or light and still manage to pop up through deep mulch and landscape fabric. The stolen will extend for several feet in search of light and water so killing it is very difficult. I resorted to Roundup applied several weeks apart three times to get the lawn remnants gone. Nutsedge still pops up here and there because it is even tougher to get rid of than Bermuda. But I just keep pulling it by hand.
@lionelreesable
@lionelreesable 19 дней назад
@@joniboulware1436 Thank you for the reply and feedback. I am new to the Bermuda grass issue and wondered what is your view of me trying to plant Bermuda in my yard. The primary reason I started was necessity. I bought a 60-year-old abandoned house on a large property that had no attention for decades. I found that Bermuda grass was the only grass in my zone 7b that was flourishing. I have tried several different varieties of grasses with no good results. My soil is dense clay and I am slowly amending it. My unfamiliarity with Bermuda grass is due to living in other countries where people did not prioritize lawns, rather they went with fruit trees, flowering shrubs, and vegetable gardens. My long-term objective is to raise the value of the property and have a peaceful and pleasant place to live. Again, thank you for your feedback.
