I think I just watched the first "Step Two" video. But love this series, I'm a amateur user and just learning from the skill builder series. But still am learning things from here. I really look forward to when this series gets to the more obscure commands and capabilities I don't know yet.

We use the word Consumed in Autodesk Inventor when the sketch is consumed during an extrude or sweep etc.. I’m so glad there is a way to do that in SU using a group edit. Awesome Arron , have a Merry Christmas and a safe one.

The pipe thingy is wild, OMG how useful is that. Fantastic. Does it reduce or keep the face numbers down by using the grouped profile in conjunction with the follow me tool? Or is it the same regardless the method used?

Thank you for the interesting video, it would be nice to have an explanation on the "Warning! The path that you have chosen does not begin or end on the Extrusion cross section. Unexpected results may occur" It's frustrating to find a strange shape and the warning, without recommendation of how to fix it. Thank you.

I assume the 3d house shape was ungrouped? What would you have done if the house was grouped?

I make pipes in SketchUp frequently and my paths often consist of many segments of lines and curves. The lines are often created in small segments added to each other which makes selecting then all at the end a real challenge because I often miss one small section and then the Follow Me tool fails. I was unaware of the weld feature. My question is, can the line be un welded if necessary to get back to the individual sections that would allow an edit to part of the path if a slight adjustment were needed? I wouldn't want to have to re draw an entire complex path.

Drawing a line on any other line will break it. Welded or not!

What if the building half way through the video was a group or a component? Then I find it hard to do the follow me, because you have to click many times to ba able to mark the edges. Then, to get back to the shape that is t follow, you have to click out of the group (building), and the edges you marked is no longer marked. I don´t get it.

This might be more of a "skill builder" request... Given a block of wood with a hole punched all the way through it, how can I use Follow Me to add a round over or chamfer at the edges of the circles that intersect with the block's faces? Call it an "interior" Follow Me.

I got this as an email yesterday they build plug-ins for Sketchup and work with the SketchUp Team. It takes the Follow Me Tool a bit further, and answers your question in their video.mindsightstudios.com/6-surprising-uses-for-the-follow-me-tool-in-sketchup/?

Aaron, Why does Follow Me turn in-side-out, when tracking up 7 loops in a spiral? Trying to make threads.

@@SketchUp Thanks for the reply. Didn't work though. Even with one loop on a spiral (Vertical or Horizontal) if I use a triangle shape with point, pointing to center of spiral and 50% of shape off surface plain. The point of the Triangle will go flat to surface plain by the end. :-(

Hello. Is it possible for you to combine the TAPE and LINE MEASUREMENT tools with a modifier key to toggle the distance display between inch-feet-metric on the fly without changing the units for the model? This would be just to display but when the user wanted to draw a guide or a line the user would have to toggle back to the model units. I have to convert units a lot when I am working in a model fitting parts from different country origins. I realize that this video is about follow me but it is the most recent video. My comment may be more visible. I will post it elsewhere too. Thank you.
@AaronMakingStuff
@AaronMakingStuff 3 года назад
The only way to change what units are displayed is through Model Info... nothing in Tape Measure to change that, unfortunately.

I'm working on a curved stair with a c-channel stringer. I created a line that curves and rises like the stair will, as well as a c-channel. When I use follow me, the c-channel keeps rotating as it goes up the stair instead of remaining straight. Almost like a plane doing a barrel roll through the sky. The goal would be to have the c-channel follow up the stair but the face of the c-channel remaining perpendicular to the ground. Any tips?
