One of my art idols, a classically trained artists, said to me once "you don't go to art academy to learn skill. You go there to learn taste". His point was that art is limited by what you find good enough. It's not about skill it's about standards. The skill will follow. With AI it's even worse, because all these "creators" are very distanced from the "art" they "create". They are second-hand consumers, so their experience of their own "creation" is closer to mine when observing someone else's. So it's not even their artistic standards that apply in this case, which dont' exist, it's their standards as consumers, which are usually lower across the board.

That's exactly it! It takes artists years of learning their own specific tastes and developing their own style through personal experience, it's not just throwing thousands of existing art images into a giant blender to make an art soup. Real artists alway diverge away from everything else, they don't converge and generalize like AI does.

AI bros are like taste testers that only ate fastfood so far. If you don't have any expertise by learning and doing, wine tastes like wine. You'll never be able to taste the subtle nuances hidden within. And you are definitely not a vintner.

For technology to be beneficial it needs to meet 3 criteria. 1 humanity needs to be able to derive benefit from it. 2 it needs to be practical. 3 the advantages need to outweigh the dangers. Ai fails every account. The belief that ai can benefit humanity stems from the dunning/kruger effect.
