More Horsepower Less Weight - Budget Muscle Car Build. Can you make your old muscle car beat a modern performance car by adding more horsepower and less weight - and all on a budget? Turns out you can!
In this video we put my 1964 Mercury Comet that I've been building for the past 5 months against my 2021 Mustang Mach 1 in a power to weight shootout!
In the prior videos we baselined the Comet, added cylinder heads, camshaft, intake, full exhaust, electric fan, and various other go fast parts in an effort to make around 330rwhp while weighing less than 3000lbs.
Previously my stock Mach 1 made around 440rwhp in stock trim but weighing a hefty 3870lbs. Will all of the mods to my lighter Comet give it a fighting chance?
Its time to see if the work paid off! Come see if we hit the mark

This has been a great series. I’m so glad the budget build worked. And besides, everyone knows driving slow cars, fast, is incredible

Couldn’t agree more. With the 3.80 gears / limited slip I have planned it should be a hoot

Thank you! I was really impressed with the parts. Although hesitant at first I think the single plane and adjusting the cam timing really paid off. In my opinion those are solid numbers for the TFS Stage 1 cam

killer video series, congrats on all the progress - building a 1963 falcon, swapping from a 260/c4 to a 302 T5 - super helpful my friend! keep up the hard work

Thanks and good luck with your project! The T5 was the single best modification ive done to the car. Really woke it up!

@@truckandroll989 you bet - I believe you used the stock tail shaft housing with rear-oriented shifter vs forward/s10 style, correct?

@truckandroll989 5 месяцев назад
@@dcheetham8603 I have done 2 T5 swaps in my life. One was on a 1965 Chevy C10 and on that one, to clear a bench seat, I used an Iroc era T5 with an S10 tail housing. However, for the Comet I used a T5 out of a Ford with no modifications to the tail housing. Theres plenty of room in the Comet falcon and I wouldnt worry about swapping tailhousings. That being said theres a part of the floorpan bracing that has to be cut/modified.

Great video, im looking at this same set up on a stock 1990 h.o. short block.

Whats nice is your 1990 has valve reliefs so you could run a bit more aggressive cam. Im curious how much torque I am giving up with the single plane but overall Im happy its a fun car.

Impressive! To be fair, its the same carb as the initial dyno pull right? So it was probably causing a similar HP loss with the old engine but to a lesser degree as a % of overall HP. I'm assuming the linkage was the same for both engine combos as well. The other noticeable difference was the air filter removed for the later dyno run vs the original was left on. Overall great results, especially considering it was a budget build that certainly woke this thing up.

So i had this same thought too and its definitely possible. That being said the carb/linkage/etc. was all removed to swap between by dual plane and the single plane so its hard to say. Also on the graph the power diverges (with the throttle fixed) around the same peak power it made before. So it could have been wrong before but the engine didnt need the extra airflow. Good point though. Again I really appreciate you watching and commenting
