I just got started making baits myself, and fortunately everyone has been cool, and gives me their recipes, and exactly how to do whatever it is they are doing.... Lots of facebook groups, and you tube videos...
First off you're laminating is off the hook! Second; this was the best video I've seen on laminating and the fact that you went into depth about where you start as far a temperatures and then what to do if things don't work was invaluable information...thank you! I went back and watched your square bill video and that was cool too. I think you misunderstood some of the intent of the comments I made about sharing your colors. I don't think you should share all of your formulas at all, I would just like to learn the process of how you build colors that laminate well together. You showed in depth the mechanics of how to make a clean laminate and that was awesome. Another thing I struggle with is having the right contrast levels the make a laminate work or not. Matching a dark color with a light color is pretty easy to get a good result with but matching two darker colors (like black and blue) is something I struggle with, you really have to look hard to see the blue. Do you normally try to have one color opaque and one transparent? When you mix laminate colors similar in shade do you mix them lighter shades than you would if you were using the same colorant by itself so they are visible through the other color? I agree with you that you shouldn't do all of the work for someone because not only is that unfair to you but the "student" never really learns the craft because they don't do their own work. By the same token it is helpful for the student to have someone explain the basic principles to get to a level that the student can start developing on their own. The same goes for fishing; if you go out and spend hours finding fish and then just give your coordinates not only do you have assholes all over the stuff you found but anyone that relies on others to find their fish never ever becomes a well rounded fisherman. Anyway, great information, sorry we got off on the wrong foot, looking forward to the next video. PS I'm going to bother you for information on painting crankbaits after I get better at laminating! LOL
It’s all good man and say like black n blue to get a clean laminate and have the blue really pop I usually add some blue powder pigment with my blue liquid pigment and it really makes for a great black n blue give me a couple of days and I’ll make a video on that and show more on how I do it and make the colors show when laminating with black
Thanks for the info!!! This is so needed to be talked about! I had 1k bait order every thing was going fine then one day it just kept blending and I couldn't believe it! so I changed both temps an kept going down!!! Never did I ever think to change the temps of the one with the pearl in it till it got too cold to be in the shop! but I turned them pots off and the been shut down for about 8 months now... Bro you about to have me in zero degree weather trying to put a wood stove in just to make a bait or two lol! I like your way of doing things!!! Not only do you a New Sub but a fan!!
Bravo 🙌 brotha !! Thanks for all the detailed info and tips. Helping me out a tone. And that is one of the coolest looking jerkbaits Iv seen man 👍 first time seeing it is all. And now ...... I’m searching for it 😂🤣😂 Cheers brotha 🍻
I’m not knocking do-it molds but I’ve had a few of the 5” sticks from them and they are nowhere near the quality of a good cnc mold from other companies the one I have is from dark horse molds and it works great but if I had to buy one now I’d have to go with one from epic bait molds or angling Ai even BTS molds
Some are from a old company that shut down years ago and most of the others are from individuals on like market place. I have bought some off Amazon that turned out to be good quality
