Very impressive stock pile. I was watching a video from tall tails and he mentioned someone told him about attaching candy thermometers to the paddles. Guess I know where he got the idea. Thanks for the info. Nice job.

Excellent video! Wondering, what type of salt you buy and where to get it?

I used canning & pickling salt that I got from the grocery store. It’s in the green Morton Salt box.

Hello Jim, Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge. Your videos are amazing and full of valuable information! Inspired by you and your videos I just bought an Ultra Molds Shooting Star. If you do not mind, can you please let me know if it is possible to cook the plastisol in the Shooting Star or you have to precook it in the microwave? Thank you in advance, Mark
@jameslanza3269
@jameslanza3269 4 года назад
Mark, Yes, you can heat the plastisol in the shooting star but it will take about an hour or so to get it to temp. You have to baby sit it to keep from burning out the stirrers' motor. It much easy to just throw it into the microwave and heat it for 10 to 12 minutes. Stir it and heat it for another 5 minutes or so. The actual time of heat cycles in your microwave may be different depending on how many watts it is. Both of mine were 1000 watts so it cooked pretty fast. Its a great machine and the newer ones are much easier to work with. Rupert and Chris do a great job with their machines and are always helpful when you hit a snag. Enjoy!!!! Jim

I have a question...if you didn't use a microwave and just heated the plastic in the shooting star unit...how long would that take to get up to temp?
@jameslanza3269
@jameslanza3269 5 лет назад
I tried heating up the plastisol in the shooting star when I first got it. After about 20 minutes, I decided life was to short, so I went back to heating in the microwave. I image it can be done but the microwave is faster.

Sorry I didn't see your question earlier. I had the molds made by a company called High Rock Molds. They went out of business about 10 years ago. You can talk with Bass Tackle or BTS molds. Both companies do excellent work and I've bought standard molds from both. Thanks! Jim

Hello, i am getting into the game so to speak on soft plastic bait making. I notice you dip your baits in water but mentioned you still let them cure for 3-4 days after. Is shocking them in the water necessary? just wondering as i feel some of the salt near the outside will dissolve. Thanks for a very informative video!!!
@razorbaitsinc.2173
@razorbaitsinc.2173 5 лет назад
In this video, I was making our 5.25" Dip Stick stick bait. I was using 12 molds with 10 cavities per mold. After shooting the molds and allowing the last mold to cool for 2 minutes, I start de-molding them. I placed them into water and allow them to cool while I re-shoot the molds. The baits sit in the water for around 5 minutes. I then hang the baits on a cooling rack where they stay for at least 3 days. I agree with you that some of the salt will dissolve that are on the surface. The amount of salt that dissolves is so minimal that it doesn't effect the action of the bait. As the baits cure, you can see where it appears that the salt has dissolved. If you put liquid scent on your baits before you bag them, I feel that the liquid scent not only coats the bait but also fills the little holes caused by the dissolved salt. I feel that this keeps the scent on the bait longer. Be careful about making baits! IT IS VERY ADDICTING!!!!!!!!!! Best of luck! Jim

Thanks for the info! Makes “scents” what you said about salt dissolving allowing the scent to hold. Thanks again man!
