Reunited and it feels SO good! Those the dogs at that dog cafe did help fill the void! haha What would you want to experience the most if you went to Japan? :)
Honestly just seeing all of the accessibility made me green with envy! Like I'm sure they have their problems aswell, and I know I would most likely face a hard time if I actually moved there since a lot of the people are rather suspicious and hostile towards foreigners, but really all of the tactile markings on the ground, the maps, the audio descriptions BEFORE you go to a theme park...! I¨'m literally upset with my home country for not being nearly enough now!
A suggestion for your matcha order at Starbucks now that you’re hooked on the good stuff: ask for one or two extra scoops of matcha when you order! I always do that haha
I have not been back to Japan but this series reminded me that the people were so helpful and kind, the matcha was perfect, the scenery was spectacular, the shrines were majestic, their grocery store food (Lawson's) was at unbelievable level of quality and well...those bathrooms.
Girl, I went on a mental health walk the other day, determined to pet all the cats & doggos that would allow it. I miss them so much since leaving the vet clinic life.
Thank you Molly for sharing the happy spots with us!!! Like for us people that can't travel but now these videos are like satisfying too see a little bit of Japan 💗🩷💕
Oh my goodness, I was not expecting to see shiba inu's in this video! As a owner of 2 shiba inu's it warms my heart. Also if you ever find yourself in Belgium, you can come pet my shiba's any day, I just love how gentle you were and seemed to know how to pet them. Elton and Gallop are two very lucky dogs to have you. Thank you for taking us on your Japan adventures!
I'm always so impressed with your sense of style. Given seemingly little detailed description of the room or furniture pieces, you can just peg the exact style they were going for 😌 you do the same for clothes too and it's so cool to me. Even as a fully sited person, I couldn't tell you or give a word to the style of whatever I was seeing. So so impressed 🙌
Some people just have a talent for style, whatever that may be. I've known blind and sighted people who are very good at that, and I've also known blind and sighted people who are terrible at it. I'm blind, and… Don't talk to me about fashion Because That isn't my expertise. But talk to a couple of my best friends (one is blind, and the other is not) and they will tell you how to choose style and go on it for hours. I think it's fascinating to learn what each person's different gifts and talents are… We all have something that we are good at.
I wonder what was the push for Tokyo to become so accessible. Did they have a large blind community. Because what ever it was that’s amazing they did all these things
My guess would be because they have a fairly aging population, so likely many elderly low vision or blind people. And Japanese culture values elders, so it would make sense they would adjust the city to make it accessible.
If we're talking about the tactile yellow tenji blocks on the foot paths and train station platforms, there are several reasons. 1. The blocks were invented by a Japanese man, Seiichi Miyake in 1967 and he used his own funds to lay down a lot of blocks up till 1972. 2. There was a tragic accident of a man falling off of a train platform and dying. The court case ruled that the train stations were responsible for ensuring the safety of blind passengers. Ever since, train companies have been extra careful to include those tactile blocks, brail on hand railings, tactile maps, bird noises and announcements indicating where stairs and bathrooms are, and recently, physical barriers like moving gates and rope on the platforms. 3. This one's just my personal opinion, but I think peer pressure is a big thing in Japan. If train stations and city halls are doing it, so will classy businesses. If classy businesses do it, so will smaller businesses.
@@susannahsaurus I agree. Japanese people are quite passionate about that. There was a recent problem with a kids museum centered around the popular character Anpanman. They put hidden pictures in the tactile blocks, causing accidents where blind people were walking along and bumping into small children crouching down to look for the pictures. It blew up in the media. There was public outcry. The museum received complaints and issued an apology, changing the blocks to regular ones without the special hidden pictures.
Oh! I almost forgot. Whenever Japan hosts the olympics and paralympics, there's a huge push to make all infrastructure accessible to all, so Tokyo having hosted twice 1964 and 2020 has been updated quite a lot.
I have loved watching these videos. Well I always love your videos….These in particular showed me I can go to Japan. My parents want to go because my dad spent time there as a young teen with a dad in the military. I am a wheelchair user for distance and had said I didn’t want to go for fear of being unable to get around. You can read articles but I always have in my mind “are they truthful? Or just putting themselves in the best light? How accessible are there reaaallly?” You sharing your experience gives me confidence and also makes me hope I can convince my dad to go to Disney…I too am a mermaid on land
I’ve just been in japan at the same time as you. We went to so many of the same places as you, so just sent my family your video links as you described and showcased everything better than I ever could! I’m reliving every exciting experience all over again and even better, seen through your eyes, ears, smell, taste and touch! Thank you Molly and Neve!
Japan is honestly such a bucketlist item, but I know I very likely will never be able to go, so living vicariously through you right now. My disability would simply prevent me from getting there without crashing down hard, even with my service dog by my side. I'm also kind of on a medical travel ban right now, so I can't even go further than an hour away (by car) from my hospital, which severely limits my travel options...
Hi Molly, glad you loved your time in Japan. I love Japan!!! Love their food and the culture too. I am full Japanese and born in America. Just watching your videos made me miss Japan.
I love what you said about Matcha how that doesn't give people the jitters. I gave up coffee about a decade ago because I was always having jitters and shakes from all the Tim Horton's ice capps I drank. I gotta try some matcha sometime. That cotton candy umbrella looks so cute!
Hi Molly! Great video just one comment so you know the drink that you had at the airport wasn’t Japanese sake it was Korean Soju specifically it was the brand chamisul! I know it can get confusing and I am sorry if you already clarified this somewhere lol
Aw Elton!! When my doggo was a puppy (he still is to me!) he got so so excited to see my grandpa that he did a wee on the floor! It literally only happened twice when he saw him & no-one else! My grandpa is Scottish so he calls my dog Rory even though his name is Troy 😂
Wow, I had no idea you liked Sailor Moon when you were growing up! As a kid/teen, it was all anime all the time for me. I still love anime to this day even though I can’t really see it anymore. I would love to visit Japan someday.
Aww I'm so pleased you had such a great time in Japan. I hope you get to return soon. We had a quick 4 day stay in Tokyo in 2019 and have been dreaming about going back. I have very poor mobility now so we were thinking of hiring a motorhome and having a driving holiday next time we go. I heard that the highway rest stops called michi no eki have local produce and souvenirs and stamps you can collect, I think it would be fun to explore those.
Molly, I saw a long-haired Bernese for the first time the other day !! The only reason I recognized him is because he looked just like Elton haha I was so excited to see such a beauty
I love the open closet in your room! For some reason i hate putting my clothing in drawers or closets in hotel rooms... i think that i assume anywhere thats closed is "dirty" for some reason... The open rack seems smart!
I watched all your parts of Tokyo... I love how it was very accessible for you and the blind Community that's very important that they have it set up that way that means a lot You look like you had such a great time and had loads of fun and the Macha and the dessert looked sooo good... I can't wait to see you next Adventure in Europe❤ I love how Elton John greeted you at the door awww..
Hi Molly, I'm jealous of your Japanese adventure. To compensate, I bought a pint of Haagen Dazs matcha green tea ice cream, and will indulge after my teriyaki noodle bowl dinner.
omg i can't wait to see what you'll do in France and Spain and where you'll go ! i'm from both countries and i always find it very fun to see my favourite people go to my favourite places ^^ bisous !!
I looved watching these vlogs!! The sensory museums were the best...and the FOOD! Also, did you and Joey Graceffa have the same idea around the same time? :D Just saw his Japan-vlogs! Thanks for great content
I visited Osaka, Kyoto and Tokyo in 2010. I bought some matcha cakes in Kyoto to bring back to friends... and I ate all of them so had to go back to the shop to buy more 😂 SO GOOD!!!
Omg Molly, how exciting that you went to Shibuya! It would be so overwhelming even for people who have vision, I would think! So sweet how excited Elton John was for you to get home lol. Now I really want a matcha latte ❤
I immediately smiled when I saw your video pop up! I feel rejuvenated by watching your Japan videos recently which is so much needed! I also love the sweet huffing twirly joy of Elton John when you were reunited! 🐶❤️ P.S. I've never had Matcha before, but definitely want to try it soon!
Like that the hotel peephole is within Molly’s height. I’m 4’8”,so I never see out of the standard room door peephole. Wish American hotels had peepholes at this height.
Is your mom Irish? I am trying to place her accent. She’s lovely, as are you..her daughter. Molly, you have such a beautiful soul! You reminds me of my best girlfriend ..she looks like you as well..but she’s just an angel of a human being. Always positive and high energy…jazzed about life. I am glad you had such a wonderful trip.
"get out of the big city" = goes to Kyoto 🤣 Its definitely not Tokyo but it's still a huge city, if to want to see smaller towns in Japan and more traditional stuff you'll have to take a train or bus outside the cities. Hakone and Nara are still towns but theyre much smaller and have cool things to see
Hey from Kazakhstan 🇰🇿, Molly! Glad you loved Japan trip❤ I want to go there so bad too! I know, you said that languages is not your thing, but if there was a nice accessible app or whatever, what language would you like to learn? And: how to make language learning more accessible? Random question, idk. I just love languages.
Your alcohol bottle at the airport was actually Korean soju, not sake! Sake is more like a rice wine, and soju is distilled so they are different drinks!
You wanted out of the city (Tokyo), so you went to the day trip to the other city (Kioto)? 😂 Those are the two cities I have visited in Japan too but I would never say I went out of the city when I visited them. 😃
1:26 You silly Canadian Japan has a huge culture of bathing, it's just not in the bathroom That shower is so efficient because they do not like to spend time washing themselves, but they love chilling out in the bath, it's just not a cleanliness thing there
