Another day in the workshop, but only a few to include in a video. The others iv already posted videos on or were too complicated to include or film.
Plus, it's Friday, so a lot of computer work to do with over 50 repairs this week to write up.
First up, we had the Makita HR 3530 C rotary hammer with a cooked armature.
I'm always surprised at how cost-effective this particular repair is, as you can pick this armature up yourself for 110 euro. Which is quite cheap.
The dewalt DXN660 Nail gun was an instant fix for a regular customer of the shop I work for. He must have hit a nail head, which caused the pin to snap. It's a shame as the gun is only a year old and hadn't been used since last year.
But even if it was warrenty, they would cover the pin.
And as for the little Makita trimmer, we these have been on the market for 5 years now, and iv never opened or fixed one yet. Which is saying something.
VERY nice little cordless trimmer, and inside is what I would expect from makita. Easily worked on replaceable spare parts, no unit assembly parts, and NSK bearings. Fantastic little trimmer, no wonder I haven't had one in yet.
This one has seen a fall or was over tightened and busted the aluminium housing.
This alu housing is very easy to replace.

drt50 is one of my favourite tools and you dont see alot of repair videos on them either however I have always thought that the lock button was the weakest link so rather than using it I just use 2 spanners to tighten the bit.

Lovely job yet again! That Makita drills no doubt smashed though quite a few bricks in its time, gave it a great new lease in life😭🤣 i absolutely love the fact you’ve re used your Heinz snap pots & put them to good use

Super good videos you make.👍 Funny case I changed the aluminum housing on my DRT50, today it was also cracked and then I saw your video here later. (the house was in stock here in Denmark, and cost almost 40 Euro with vat)

Hi Dean, found your channel recently and I’m thoroughly enjoying the videos, didn’t hesitate to subscribe. You certainly know your way round power tools and make your repairs look effortless. Having had Makita cordless tools for years (impact and drills) for personal building/diy work I’m now wondering, after hearing your comments in your videos about Milwaukee for instance, I’d love to know your opinion on what you consider the choice of brand for heavy-ish diy work/home use but not business use. I’ve always loved my makita’s but if I was to buy again what would you advise in terms of build, quality and price? Great content, best of luck to you and your family brother 👍🏻

DRT50 router is so handy but expensive. Watching shopfitters doing a costa coffee fit out, deadly bit of kit but I bought a 1/4 240v router for £20, compared to the £100 for the makita. Its crap though compared to the makita, now I have seen inside

love your style dean. i started working on tools after i started watching AvE on yt way back in 2011...i think. i started tearing tools apart just to see what was inside and along the way i learned what makes them tick. after his saying "its already f#ck so you cant f^ck it anymore, so what the worst you can do?" after that, wasnt afraid to get into anything. havent seen any hiltis on your channel yet. is that because they dont break or the break too much so no one uses them? also have you noticed a decline in quality since production has moved to china? when it comes to brushes, does it matter what kind you put in? should it be oem or can it be aftermarket? thanks.
@deandohertygreaser
@deandohertygreaser 11 месяцев назад
Yes iv a few gikti repair videos also. You don't see them in much now. As I normaly refuse to take them in now. Hitli are not what they use to be, and the quality has taken a nose dive. To much hassel repairing them now, so I don't take them in. Brushes don't matter to much. Genuine is better but not essential. I often modify brushes to fix diffent of brand tools anyway.

I couldn’t agree more. Dewalt trim router design is horrible. Makita power tools are much easier to repair. Thats why my workshop is filled with Makita power tools.

The Dewalt finish nailers are pretty weak. I have had two of them. Still have one. If all you are shooting is pine to pine. They work. Anything else no go. For a service part like a fire pin. What a terrible set up. In the old days of air nailers, changing the firing pin was a quick easy job. Only thing in favour of the Dewalt over the Makita trimmer. The Makita is only poweful enough to use for light duties. The Dewalt has more grunt. Used with a plunge base. It can cope with slightly bigger jobs. Akin to a normal 1/4 router. But even the working design of the Dewalt is poor. A Makita on steroids version would be the go. Until then, flog the Dewalt.

Makita router on steroids does exist though, I have one and it's great. RT001G ;)
@davetaylor4741
@davetaylor4741 11 месяцев назад
@@riba2233 That is on the 40 V platform. Imagine would be good. Only have 18V Makita. Not likely to change whole platform. Both Dewalt and Hikoki are backward compatible. Shame Makita kept them separate. Might have bought some if I could have used with my existing. Haven't even tried 40V Makita tools. They get good reviews.
@riba2233
@riba2233 11 месяцев назад
@@davetaylor4741 makitas 18v line is too old (almost 20 years now) and wasn't fit for the upgrade unfortunately, so a fresh start was a good thing. Milwaukee and DeWalt changed a few platforms before their current 18v lines so it was easier for them. In any case 40v line is great and it is totally worth it if you want more powerful tools :)
