Channel magnets might keep base plates in place. Cheap and worth a shot.

For those small transformers I would use a cheapo wood chisel so your not wasting blades and not losing copper in dust

Maybe it could be as simple as hooking a short 5 inch bungee cord to both outer edges of the plates and run the cord underneath the plates. The cord would keep the plates tensioned together but easy to separate to put in transformers. Weld a small 1 inch wide piece of metal underneath onto the front-end of the table closest to you that sticks up flush in between the plates. Weld the metal to the table, not the plates. Center the welded piece of metal to the ram-rod. So when you remove the transformer the plates snap back into center position underneath the ram. The one inch separation will make it easy to put in a transformer without having to touch the plates, and the cord will allow the plates to separate to any width transformer. Just an idea for you to think about.

You may have already thought about it but those springs on the small press look to be closer to your face than the other might want to wrap those springs in some steal mesh before they break
@ProjectShopFl
@ProjectShopFl 2 дня назад
I think I am gonna put some expanded metal on it like the other press.
@Archangel4500000
@Archangel4500000 2 дня назад
Would It help to use some of those extra springs you have for the press? Use springs on either side to force the plates together- they don't have to be super powerful- just enough to push the plates together. You could also add a bar in the back to "lock" the plates and prevent them from pushing all the way together.

I want to put a bar on the back but I think the springs will cause more work.

maybe you could use a drill press vice that would give you an adjustable opening that would stay in position.

I find as long as the stuff you are micro scrapping has copper or brass in it... you can make good money processing it :-) Great Video!

Glad to see your getting that table cleared. Dude u should talk to your scrap yards about buying ballists and tranformers even electric motors from them. Even if u pay them more than what their getting it might be worth it.

I suspect meat cleaver would work well on windings that need to be cut. Meat cleaver is an extremely underrated tool which many scrappers have never tried.

Maybe you could make a master jig with different size holes to use with the press. Probably wouldn't be too difficult to go ahead and machine your own part.

Just a friendly suggestion. 1" plate and mill the different sizes you need to punch out the transformer cores.

Put a blade attachment on your press like a log splitter to cut the copper windings

Before you fire up the big incinerator to burn some of those gunk coated copper items, why don't you try your torch on a smaller piece or two to see what happens on a smaller scale?

if you don't do enough of the tiny transformers... a modification to your equipment isn't necessary. Just struggle with it for 20 minutes, once a year (or whatever). Seems like you may waste more time doing the modification that actually using the modification. ? I dunno.
