Imagine if they actually find some way to connect this game's story to the end of persona 3 like how Nier is a continuation of one of the Drakengard endings 😂
See a lot of people complaining that it's just "fantasy persona" and not a complete revolutionary new game but I'm happy it's fantasy persona and not something potentially mediocre like Soul Hackers 2
Clearly what they accomplished with P5 is kinda becoming a formula for new games like how the press turn system revolutionizes mainline smt, but if they keep making that "P5 esque" system better, we might keep getting great and fun games
That's a big leap to think it will be Soul Hackers 2, which I think was made by B Team and likely had all sort of issues behind it's development. Unless you think Persona and sometimes SMT they can only do right. They skimmed hard with SH2 clearly and expected it to sell.
@@DeVanMSXthat might gauge some interest in their niche JRPG I’ve heard hardly anyone talking about and why would they want to do that??? Seriously the marketing for this game has been bizarrely absent I don’t know if it’s because it’s a new IP or what
I thought the vid was announcing there was a demo out for everyone. :( but yeah they should do a demo. FFXVI did a demo and that game got tons of coverage from streamers.
@@Matthew-.-Atlus should definetly adopt the way Square Enix does is how they let people play the first few hours in a demo and then continue it afterward in the full game. Great way to grow hype and interest surrounding the game.
Hi Nyarly, around 3:00 mark you mention the boss one shotting you, having watched some of the other footage of this boss(and I thought you'd rewatch your footage of it too). The boss says it is targetting the front row, similar to how shadow teddie and other similar bosses warn you before they do their big move. It seems you are supposed to jump back row in this instance because other footage of this boss shows people taking no damage from the big attack when they jumped into the back. You stayed in the front row in the footage you show.
I like this, you actually have to pay attention to the game to beat it. I'll give him a pass because he was probably trying to rush through the game because of his limited allotted play time.
I'm assuming them referencing the real world is more so them referring to a utopian version of our world rather than directly saying "Hey, the real world is perfect without any flaws" Also even if our society is flawed it's still infinitely better than whatever the heck is going on with Metaphor's society seemingly so in their eyes our world is probably still considered "perfect" by comparison even if our world isn't ACTUALLY perfect.
It's basically fantasy characters imagining our "real world" as the perfect place without all the crap they have to deal with, the way people IRL fantasize about...well, fantasy. Grass always seems greener on the other side and all that. The game's literally named Metaphor, even...
I think it's clear the writers are being somewhat facetious when they talk about our world. I think you're supposed to recoil a little when they describe it as a perfect society. Idk where they're going with it but I don't think the persona devs think we live in a conflictless utopia
We’ve actually already got confirmation that it’s T rated, somehow. It’s a PEGI 16 as with recent Persona and SMT in Europe. Guarantee you it’s the lack of nudity and sex references that dropped it to a T. The ESRB are oh so sensitive on such things but are happy to let you watch some really dark stuff.
The genuine reason Persona 3, 4, and 5 are rated M is because of Mara Like you have a big penis in your game, it's automatically gonna be an M lol So it makes sense without him that Metaphor is only a T
Mara is the main reason the persona games get an M rating in the first place. Despite have mature topic like everything involving Kamoshida, most of what happens isn't explicitly shown.
@@gatst7680 I genuinely completely forgot about Mara 😭 I was thinking of things like Incubus and Succubus that are a bit dodgy, but yeah Mara on his own is an automatic M I suppose. I find in Europe ratings tend to be influenced by how realistic/explicit things are, rather than the actual content itself. For example, Xenoblade 3, which has a character shoot herself (it's not shown but she puts a gun to her head and you hear the noise) is a 12, because the violence is the game is otherwise very tame and there is no notable sexual content, while the recently released Emio, which features much more explicit depictions of dead bodies (incl. suicide) and domestic abuse (characters have bruises and sound effects are heard), got slapped with an 18. Yet it's only a C in Japan. It gets so confusing 😭
Grius PLEASE be a character who leaves then comes back later in some climactic moment… getting cool old man characters who aren’t immediately killed off is harder than it should be
Ngl, Just feels strange to me seeing so many people disappointed in Atlas who dismiss this game as being "Too much like SMT/Persona" While so many of us are chomping at the bits for a new FromSoft game to use another variation of same gameplay format they've used since Demons Souls. Like i get it, Souls games have been some of the absolute best, Most memorable games of its genre so why fix what isn't broken? But like dude the Persona games are some of the most unique and incredible JRPGs I've ever played, Excellent stories, Characters, Aesthetics, Music and Gameplay. Why exactly are so many acting like it's worrisome that Metaphor might be more of that? If Metaphor is shaping up to be the culmination of everything SMT/Persona but in a fantasy setting, Then that sounds like an incredible positive to me. Just as FromSoft did for their Souls formula in Elden Ring, Metaphor could very well be just "Fantasy Persona" or "Persona 6" and I'd still be absolutely stoked for it. I greatly enjoy the SMT/Persona formula and a new variation/Evolution of that has me VERY hyped.
A remix of a familiar system with a lot of fun twists vs Pokémon which has been putting in less effort and money but sells gangbusters. I’ve noticed this phenomenon happens between similar games that aren’t direct sequels. People might not remember or know, but Elden Ring was getting a lot of heat for “just being Dark Souls 4” before it came out. It has similar bones because it’s what the developers know but the end product is what they actually wanted to make. Metaphor feels like this is what the team wanted to make instead of Persona 6 and I think that’s good.
My personal theory is that Metaphor is the P3 Isekai, the protag is just like P3's protag, Sthrol is Akihiko, the Red Head Elf is Mitsuru and that white creature is Fucking Koromaru.
Another detail I noticed is the NPC, More. I'm 100 percent sure he's named after Thomas More, the author who coined the term 'utopia'. The game is definitely exploring the idea of imagining/escaping to a fantasy world.
The trick to the chicken guy was you are supposed to swap rows when the prompt says he is targeting the first row. If you don't do that, yea chicken dad is basically unbeatable
Now that weve played tte demo we know that the chicken boss fight isn't a huge difficulty spike. Its a pass/fail tutorial for the lines system. It took me many trues because i assumed the enemy would attack rhe person in front and if there wasn't anyone in front row it would attack the back anyway
Asking for the players real name and hinting at the real world really makes me think of Bravely Default/Second with the celestial realm and the twist involving the actual player themselves. My guess is Metaphor will be similar but have a more "grass is always greener" approach to the idea
Sick to see how much you've grown in this community man. Been a viewer/listener since your Heretic Mansion podcast days. I was even in one of those episodes. Got into SMT cuz of Devil May Cry funny enough.
It is amazing they invited you out! I love seeing Atlus and SEGA constantly showing love to our communities who love their games! Just from seeing the book in the trailer, it makes me excited for it. The way you described it, makes me even more intrigued, it could be really good or really bad!
I’m excited, but cautious. So much of it really looks great. I especially love hearing that it’ll be tougher instead of the breeze that Persona can become. But I do wish they’d let people try the demo, and I hope they don’t do another re-release. I really don’t want to have to wait 3 years to get the full game.
I just ordered the collector edition for Xbox series X on Amazon! Right after I did it was sold out! Glad I got mine! Glad I got one from the restock. Clearly people want to play it.
Gonna need to grab one myself to add to wall of Atlus stuff I own physically for the Xbox ✊ Awesome to hear a fellow Xbox fan also being a fan of JRPGs as well. We’ve been spoiled really well these past few years. Hopefully SE will give us the FF titles we are missing to top off this year 😁
That bird with glasses.. I beat him first try on my first playthrough on hard mode but I restarted to do stuff differently so I could fight the dragon and he is now kicking my ass. Either they buffed him before I fought him again or I'm doing something differently. Demo is top notch. No complaints from me so far. I don't usually complain about games though.
I’m ❤’ing the demo! I wasn’t sure if I would enjoy it based on the gameplay trailers and premise of an “election”. But I’m hooked and ready to buy Day 1!
I never expected you to look like this. Not there is anything wrong but you have such a strong voice I picture some huge, tall, buff guy. Like a truck driver who lifts heavy weight😅. Very good video as always. Oh, and I loved this pixie like companion.
The game looks awesome! If it's basically a follow up to SMT IV with the Gameplay of P5 but without the railroading and without Ryuji, that sounds like a slam dunk success. The only reason I'd have not to buy it immediately is because it's an Atlus game, so it's almost guaranteed to have an Enhanced Edition a bit further down the line :/
other than the battle system ui, its more SMT than is Persona. The upgrade system is literally from DDS1&2 along with SMT press turns Edit: esthetic and calender system is Persona, yes (but why fixed something that isnt broken, in terms of esthetic) but everything else is really more SMT
I like the game, based on the 11 HOURS i played the demo. For me its not nearly on the same level of Persona. I think what would define it as a hit or miss would be how the story continues.
I'm pretty excited too, but I have some concerns, much bigger ones than any of the ones that I have for Metaphor. For one, you can perfect block every attack in the game, but depending on whether or not that's easy to do will very much so affect how the product will turn out; in the most recent gameplay preview, the person demoing the game perfect blocks every single attack that the enemies throw at him without making a mistake, which has me concerned. If perfect guards are too easy to pull off, then an issue arises where the game is more action oriented than turn-based, and will negate the need to invest in equipment or even worry about defensive stats, in which case the point of even having a turn based combat system is lost. Mario RPG for example has the same reactive combat, but perfect guards are very difficult to pull off consistently in order to maintain balance. I hope the devs took note of this when designing their combat system, otherwise there could be potential issues cropping up throughout the game's difficulty curve.
I have three theories for this "chicken with glasses" boss, so.. Nyarly might have been under leveled, purely saying that because of the two and a half hour time limit. Maybe he did not understand a certain mechanic that the boss is trying to teach the player, I read somebodies theory on "having to move every character to the back row, so they don't get obliterated by the boss". My last theory is, that this boss might have been purposefully unbalanced, so that people who rush, don't get past it, this is pure speculation and I doubt Atlus would do this to be honest. Honestly, it might be a combination of "under leveled" and the mechanics, since you can visit optional dungeons in this game where you can gain more experience. Though I have no idea if you are able to do that at that point in time in this game, I don't remember if he already said that this was not possible or not, I think that he might have rushed though.
I've seen someone fight and beat the boss and it says during the fight that the boss was targeting the front row and that's where the massive damage came from
I know the game is pretty begging for it to be compared with SMT and Persona but I'll try to play it as its own thing, who knows, maybe it will surprise all of us
My only issue is that the shading on the 3D characters doesn't do justice to the gorgeous character portraits. Metaphor's 3D shading is too bland and devoid of stylish gradient. The 3D shading would perfectly work on any other anime-style games, but it just doesn't blend well with the painterly style of Metaphor.
I think this game will have romance at the end of the story like Dragon Quest 11 because the main character Metaphor comes from a minority race where if he doesn't have descendants then his race will become extinct
@@critical_6164 Like actually influencing fights or being a navigator that's physically there? I like her as a character and hope she's playable at some point in the story.
It appears to have elements from both in addition to a class system similar to EO; it even factors in rows. They wanted this game to be a "best of Atlus" title.
That sounded like Venezuela military....yikes...this might not be all that FANTASY after all 😅 Hmm I am still not sold but is looking a bit more promising. Hmm The thing is either this or Dragon quest 3 2D HD Oh FUCK, Pls pls let her be NOT like PAIMON from genshin impact, pls god no.
"Fallout 4 protagonist" That sucks, hopefully it'll turn out better. These companies real need to take a page out of the Witcher for interesting voiced character with dialogue options
Main reason why Im not buying this is because I have no time to sink 100+ hours on a game which we all know there will be an upgraded version of in a few years...
@@Notmaxcity A king needs an heir, how would he get an heir? By having a queen, you're showing just how little you know of the political structure of medieval kingdoms.
@@kaimiller4330 _shrug_ that doesn't need to be a focus in this game's story. The race for the throne is the focus of the game, not the ruling and/or the succession. Also, Persona already exists and people don't want all of Atlus's games to be copies of each other, and imo having dating would put it too close to the vicinity of being just another Persona game. It already has multiple similarities so to have any more is pushing it.
3:15 that "multi-target magic attack" can be avoided entirely. The fairy warns you of it a turn prior. So you shift all your party members to the back row to dodge it think 🤔
Atlus never really goes that hard into topics, that was an issue people had with P5 by trying to make you seem like thieves when you weren't remotely. Certain characters arcs aside the very first one. It depends on what their censorship/ethics department allows the devs to do or how much they can say on a subject. And on the small art point, it's not oil painting. it's just a shading approach. It's like adding a dark overlay to a piece or background that acts as a form of shadow that has a interesting look though not realistic.
I'm disappointed just because I was hoping this new IP was going to be something different from Atlus, not just a reskinned property of what they already do. It makes sense they wouldn't, but then I just think of it as fantasy Personal, which is likely all it really is because can't fit into Persona world. Maybe with it being a bit more SMT that helps, yet the social system just doesn't jive with me. If no time limit it will be less annoying, and if it does, slim chance I'll be getting it. The fact people are saying as jokes, half-jokes of a re-release, then people know it's going to happen. So if anything, it would be best anyway to wait for the future edition. RIP Collector edition orderers.
Disagree. Every studio has their niche, but for some reason, people only take up this issue with _Atlus_ of all companies. Not Fromsoft, not Nintendo, not Blizzard, not Square Enix, but _Atlus._ But even better yet, these same people will turn around and buy the _same exact copy/paste job_ Dragonball game instead. Tired of these double standards, people.
@@tbnwontpop8857 What does Atlus develop besides Persona and SMT? They produce more games than develop than they used to. Square-Enix keeps changing to their detriment and just follows now, not leads. From Software has never changed who they are, majority people are just unaware of all the different kinds of games they made. They innovate on what they do best and not afraid to take risks. Blizzard...I hope you're joking. Don't mistake your lack of knowledge on something as fact of the matter. Atlus has gained ill-will just like Square-Enix has, not Square/Squaresoft who was loved. Atlus prioritizes milking Persona as much as possible, being hit and miss with Megaten and both IP they attach the worst kinds of monetization overpriced special editions. They re-release the same game in short spans of time that makes prior purchase pointless. They censor, which ticks people off. Ever person that engages in these things gets crap and one would have to be under a rock to not know these discussions. Your randomly complaining about a fighting game now. No DBZ game has remained the same. You either suck at them or never played them. I haven't in years and know that's a lie. They didn't get popular for no reason and you have to get better in fighting game genre. You are making a terrible argument. I think you need to rethink, refocus what you are trying to say. You can't defend Atlus for their crap.
@@critical_6164 I will believe them when they don't do it. Hasn't stopped them yet. That could just mean they make updates for the game as DLC instead of new editions. People already have to pay for FES and Aegis side game.
@@tbnwontpop8857 And to add, Nintendo isn't even in this conversation. They've never had the issue of their IP being stagnant. They constantly find new ways because they make gameplay their focus. If you mean only have the same IP, then I'd agree. However, they have so many 3rd party with them because other censor while they don't or do far less, they don't receive scrutiny. Me being disappointed that this game is going to play the same as Persona is my opinion, not a fact. What is true of it is that Atlus doesn't make enough of their own games in variety. You can't compare them to their output in the past to today. It's also fumbles with these IP that adds to it feeling more of the same with them. The game can be good, yet it depends if it will feel different enough that it can stand on it's own or truly just be Persona with a fantasy coat. the reason that's an issue is because those that expected them to try something new (and likely these are fans that have been around to see their past IPs) will feel fatigued if not that different.
