A lot of people say that. They're just wrong. It comes from a Bulgarian song by an artist called Biser King who admits it was an improvisation on an older Bulgarian song called Pipni me tuk. In there the word is related to "щип" which comes from "щипя" which means to pinch. Absolutely no reason to say it was in any way related to the scatman.
thank you for your deep and meaningful insight of incredibly elegant words such as skibidi and gyatt. as a gen z kid i appreciate it. also, you earned a sub from me.
Proto-Indo-European: *skeibhíddeh₁- *skei-: Initial root implying division or splitting. *bhi-: Preposition suggesting action by or towards. *deh₁-: Verb root meaning to do or place. The reconstructed PIE word *skeibhíddeh₁- encapsulates the concept of "performing the action of splitting or moving between divisions."
@@deadheat1635 it's hypothetical, but Grimm's law would transform *BHI to *bi, and there is simplification of endings, so ddeh to di is not unimaginable
Is there any actual reason to say this is the origin of the word other than that it sounds a little plausible to someone who hasn't done even a little bit of research? It comes from a Bulgarian song, where its connected to the word for pinch. Why is that harder to believe than thinking its a random prehistoric word that just emerged now?
The algorithm is a foul beast. You make good content, but the only video of yours the algorithm chose is the one with the brain rot slang. Sorry dude, the AI chose what people clicked on.. though I’d like to see more from you later on (:
Well, the story of my channel is that I get some hits, but then my channel continues to die again, but I usually find another hit. It started with: Origin of fart with reverb? 100 views (It was a lot for me at the time) Universe size comparison in Minecraft 1k views (I was still a nerd back then, but for space) Scratch cat becoming old 100k views At the time when the meme was still alive I kept making scratch cat becoming x, and there was a lot of success. But then I made *Mr incredible becoming old 8 bit chiptune 230k views* this is my most viewed video. I got 1k subscribers. But then the magic was over… … … The (Transforming) Alphabet! This got 77k views, I was back in business!! And it got me to 2k subscribers. … … Origin of gen alpha slang… Well here we are! This one got me to 3k… So, I make a lot of random stuff. Although I have 3k subscribers, about every thousand subscribers knows me for a different reason.
very fun series of videos, i wish i got into languages at your age. seeing how excited you were when explaining the aura and fire cognates was very entertaining, as i've also had sudden bouts of etymology rabbit holing in wiktionary. i've also found funny cognates of my own, here's some of the ones i had sent to the most available of my unemployed friends at like 3pm on a tuesday proto-germanic skītaną(to take a shit) and ancient greek skízō/schízō(divide/cut) are protoindoeuropean (*skēy-, *skeh₁-y-) cognates, which means that shitposting and schizoposting are basically cousins. pei *glak- or *gláktn̥ (milk) evolved into ancient greek "gála", which would then go through morphological voodoo shit to end up as "galáktos" or "galaxías", the latter being found in modern english "galaxy". through latin it became lact and while galaxias was still used, "via lactea"(literally, milky way) became a given name to the specific galaxy. it's mildly amusing that by saying "milky way galaxy" you are technically saying "milky milky way". even funnier, and as if by some sick joke of God, "lact" would end up in the word "lactūca", which would then end up in english as "lettuce". trying to wrap my head around the fact that galaxy and lettuce are related was very humorous to say the least
I mean wiktionary is ultimately referencing an interview with Kai Cenat himself where he says “rizz” is not a shortening of “charisma”. But I guess that would make it not interesting in a video
i learned about amog and mogging from jreg and i knew about mewing since like 6th grade (i swear im not on 4chan i swear im not on 4chan i swear im not on 4chan) and it makes metaphorical steam erupt from my ears whenever i hear them used wrong and or associated with gen alpha and idk why
Shtibidi does not mean chickpea in Bulgarian. Chickpea is "нахут/nahut". I don't know where wictrionary got "so give it to me", but in there aren't English lyrics in both of the songs (the original song from Biser King, and the one that he actually admitted to having been inspired from). The original song "Pipni me tuk" seems to have a weird recording uploaded to RU-vid or something, because all the lyrics sites I can find say "shtibidi" but in the RU-vid video the singer very clearly says "skibidi". I'm still not really completely sure what is being said and what the origins of the word are. If it is "shtibidi" then I think it's safe to say that it means to pinch, as in the lyrics he says it multiple times right next to "shtip", and then later uses the word normally in "shte te shtipna... " which means "I will pinch you". If he says "skibidi", then I honestly dont know. It could be just a combination of syllables which sounds cool. But I think the best theory is still that it originates from "щипя", which means to pinch.
the way you pronounce the trill r is pretty funny, the correct pronunciation is voiced and yours is unvoiced and it normally has very few flaps-most commonly 1, 2 is ok as well, compared to your ≈7
make more etymology videos please! not just cuz they're funny but i'm actually interested in learning more about the general topic of etymology and i think you would do a really good job teaching it with these sorts of videos!
It's a Bulgarian song, which is an improvisation on an older Bulgarian song, as the artist has said. In there its related to the word for pinching, "щипя"
About mew... It came from Middle English-mewe,mowe, and meau Old English-mæw Proto-West Germanic-*maiwī Proto Germanic-*mai(h)waz ("seagull") Credits to Wikitionary
that is a correct etymology, but it is not the correct word. It is a homophone that means seagull, not mewing. Credits to Wiktionary and Wikipedia. (Search mew in wiktionary and press the fourth etymology - In wikipedia search Mewing (orthotropics))
@@sampyuays it’s just how they write proto indo European. It’s kinda stupid. But there are some hints of IPA. Like if the word is labialized then they add a w on top. If the r is voiceless, then there is a ring below it. But there is more un-ipa things: If the letter is palatalized then they put an accent (‘) above it. If the vowel is long, it’s like āēīōū. And the laryngeals… h1 h2 h3… Nobody knows how they are pronounced so they just add the laryngeal theory to annoy us. Search proto indo European on omniglot.
Skibidi came from song from that one guz in red shirt from 2021 and in this song it came from jazz vocalis (I'm huge Will Wood and just jew jazz so i know what i'm talking about)
It came from a bulgarian song called "dom dom yes yes" by biser king. I have no idea what jazz lyrics you're referencing, but I assure you it's not the origin.
@@pasatorman8294 sheesh my english sucks. Ok we had clasic jazz like "front street" e. t. c. and we got vocalis (vocal without meaning) and skibidi is good for four step rhythm it's fits just as high hat so jazz was using it a lot and the we got this rap song with vocalis but almost all vocalis jazz based "so here we go once again holding a mirror up to your mirror i guess it's what some people do?"
