The AO3 one is funny until they say a tag you specifically recognise from an absolutely deplorable fic you read but there’s other people watching with you so you have to suffer in silence…
It made me question myself because of how many of those tags I recognized; then I remember that i started to read OFMD fanfic right before it exploded. Yeah.
Disney just needs to do what everyone else already thinks they're doing and just make gay stuff. The LGTBQ community is so starved for good content that once even a tiny crumb is found, everyone loses their MINDS. I mean, Disney already owns practically all media, but I mean, they'd make so much money is they just stopped Queenbating and just made some good gay shit
This is so true. I'm really hoping that OFMD really sets a new standard and shows how well making canonically queer rep can be and how important diversity In the writers room is to make a masterpiece.
well they did introduce owl house (actually scratch tht it was Dana Terrace and her team's continuous efforts tht allowed the show to get greenlit. screw disney), which is probably the only other show without queerbaiting between the main lesbian couple, besides Heartstopper (yet another fantastic show without any sort of queerbaiting or toxicity between the couples. Also the lgbtq+ rep in it is amazing) Only for disney to cancel it after the second season just because it "didn't fit the brand".
I'm glad I'm not the only one feeling like the whole Good Omens fandom is now obsessed with this show too. When I discovered Good Omens I could NOT stop thinking about this show and the main ship for a good 2 to 3 month, and when I heard about ofmd I just KNEW it was gonna rewire my brain in a similar way if not worse. It's been 5 days, I'm nearing the end of my second rewatch and consuming all the fanarts/memes/tweets/RU-vid compilations I can in the meantime. Don't get me wrong, I'm loving every minute of it. But I'm genuinely wondering what it is about those shows that rewires my brain like that. And why it's specifically gay romance between lovable middle aged dorks that fall into a "the unhinged goth one is head over heels for the refined too pure for this world one" dynamic. I mean, part of it is definetely pure joy of seeing queer representation though, especially in ofmd, because we've had enough queer baiting as it is x)
You've said everything I've been feeling. For me though I didn't discover Good omens till a few months ago so I kinda missed it's whole big fandom boom but being right in the middle of a fandom being born is so strange and exciting. I feel like OFMD kinda helped to relapse my Good Omens obsession as well. Also I agree the unhinged goth who is head over heels for the refined too pure for this world trope is the best
Same goes for me too!! And I hadn´t even made the connection yet with the "the unhinged goth one is head over heels for the refined too pure for this world one" dynamic, that is too true. Of course a huge part is also that OFMD heals my shattered Destiel heart.
@@yoyoyoyo-lq4jb You're not wrong, as much as I love this show, by definition, it was indeed queerbaiting. I think Neil Gaiman said something about sticking to the book as a way to stay true to his shared vision with the now deceased Terry Pratchett, and from what I've heard the book was also pretty ambiguous on the nature of the main duo's relationship, while never undeniably confirming it (people were already shipping the book versions of Aziraphale and Crowley back then). But I feel like the reason why both fandoms seem to overlap so much is because there are a bunch of similarities in the two pairings, including some of the dynamics and character traits that people really loved about Aziraphale and Crowley, except in OFMD they "went all the way" and threw ambiguity and queer baiting out of the window. I do have hope for Good Omens season 2 though, it would be amazing if they did the same thing as OMFD instead of keeping things "vague" enough for homophobic audiences to still watch the show thinking "they're just really good friends"
Me, a millennial who thought I was late to the Good Omens fandom about twenty years ago, watching all these gen-z kids obsessing over it: OMG, I love each and every one of you.
Okey but now I'm actively wondering if Taika came up with that fake name for Blackbeard on purpose though xD when you think about, it kinda makes sense, he's trying to see what the "refined" world is, far from his violent pirate life, soooo not a warrior name indeed. But maybe I'm reading too much into it x)
3:18 One (or really two, but it's the combination of them) that I saw recently that got me was "Everyone Is Alive," "Except for Karl," Like you REALLY had to specifically state that Karl is still dead? 😭
I'm so obsessed with this show since I fucking love pirates as a kid but the fact I'm gay and the show is about pirates being gay made it 1000000x better my kid self would love AND THE FACT THEY EVEN ADD A NON-BINARY PIRATE MADE ME CRY
Everyone ever told me "yupe the show knows you'll shit your pants at the possibilities of what they're implying or outright showing but no worries we're safe in their strong pirate arms" and I still got scared and nervous like a dummy and that is just how it be.
Haha. As someone who is really really not into Taylor swift, Queen or ABBA I have been forced to become familiar with many of their songs all too well from all the edits I've seen. They all go so well though with the show that I forgive it
There are 7 differences in these 2 pictures: 1) Blonde is on the right, then on the left; 2) Emo dude became a redhead; 3) Jacket color from red to cream; 4) they were standing up, then they were sitting down 5) outdoors vs indoors 6) teacup vs champagne glass 7) beard
Idk all of them but I know the bottom right corner is Aziraphale and Crowley from Good Omens. The bottom left is Nandor and Guillermo from what we do in the shadows. The top right is thorin and Bilbo from the hobbit and idk the other one
