Two lessons here:
a 5 star RASP prediction doesn't mean EVERYTHING is going up! It only means that the thermals are high, it doesn't predict quality. Here I chase a thermal which isn't there, only to return to the hill low and bottom land.
The next lesson was a wind direction change lesson. Later in the evening, the wind changed direction and caused turbulance on a previously flyable hill. I try to note the wind direction as I fly and usually do fairly well. This time I didn't notice the wind had changed until I had flown through turbulance coming off the ridge next to take off - at least I THINK this was the case. Please comment if you were in the air on the night I was flying and felt the same.
