If you have a long enough auger...... We've lifted motors and bin spreaders in and out from our bins with the 13''swing hopper augers before a 150-200 lb motor isn't much weight compared to tube full of grain....
@MarkHaugen
@MarkHaugen 16 дней назад
That's a very good idea.. We actually used are auger last year to help with our Grain leg repair..
@denniskurtz1428
@denniskurtz1428 18 дней назад
Hi Mark. I had an auger do the same thing about 3 years ago. Burned off 2 sets of belts. Ran backwards for 5 minutes. Then it works just fine. I have 10 hp motors on my top augars. My shivers dryer is 22 years old and still chugging away. Just dried 60k barley.
@MarkHaugen
@MarkHaugen 18 дней назад
This little guy was built back in '13.. I wish they would have put 10hp on ours. Its been a good dryer we've just completely outgrown it. But a new system is a little out of the budget at the moment.

Not sure if this will work in your area, but try some UAN on the wheat stubble. Don't need much. That's been done here in MD on corn stalks and it actually helps with the decomposition process. No idea what the cost of the products you are using are, but I'd venture to say that 30% is a cheaper option. I always enjoy how you guys seem to make stressful situations look like it's not a problem.
@MarkHaugen
@MarkHaugen 18 дней назад
I agree.. we'll see how this works but I think in the future a couple gallons of UAN will probably do just as good. We have a lot of time till Freez up for breakdown. At a quart an acre decomp is $9 an acre.. I'm skeptical on the return. Will c .. Thanks for your input.

Yet another great video and insight into the life on your farm and thank you for sharing it but I have to ask, why don't you fit crop/straw lifters to the cutter bar/knife (as is common practice here in Europe)lift the crop off the ground and make the cutting cleaner, easier and most likely quicker? When I was younger all combines came with them, however straw shortening chemicals and dwarf varieties of crops reduced the need to some extent. It does seem that you're not leaving too much on the ground though.
@MarkHaugen
@MarkHaugen 17 дней назад
I agree if this happens again we'll definitely have to look into that. Are wheat usually doesn't go down like this.

😂so what is the preference (if there is one) wheeled or tracked combine on Haugen Farms? And the sprayed chemicals on the stubble are supposed to break down the stubble so there is not so much of it?
@lynwessel2471
@lynwessel2471 18 дней назад
Yes, good idea to try to help it break down in the late summer and fall. Nothing happens when it's frozen from November thru April.

Can the wheat residue able to be baled and used for something?
@lynwessel2471
@lynwessel2471 18 дней назад
@@dominicdahlheimer6861 Can be, but it removes nutrients and organic material that's beneficial to the soil. If a farm has cattle it can be used for bedding and returned to the field with the manure, then you don't lose anything.
